Went to doc today, high bad cholesterol, low good cholesterol
Anyone else feel my pain ? I'm taking a statin again, trying my best to change my diet, and exercise, in addition to my fish oil pills (doc said they tend to increase good cholesterol).
Upside: I'm healthy and have good insurance. Happy Holidays everyone!
How's your very late fall so far ? Winter starts officially December 21, 6:03 P.M. EST
It's very lovely here in Florida. Not too hot or cold or rainy. Very nice.
Icann Spear Phishing Attack Strikes at the Heart of the Internet
http://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/icann-spear-phishing-attack/Hackers have struck at the heart of the net with a spear phishing attack on Icann employees which gave them access to a key administrative database and other digital assets, the internet oversight body has revealed.
In a note earlier this week, Icann admitted that the attack in late November involved email messages crafted to appear as if they came from the organizations domain.
This enabled attackers to compromise Icann staff email credentials which then gave them access to other systems, most notably the Centralized Zone Data System (CZDS).
Icann explained:
Alison Lundergan Grimes: Rand Paul Can't Run For Senate And President In 2016
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/18/alison-lundergan-grimes-rand-paul_n_6347730.html?utm_hp_ref=politicsKentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes said she'd challenge Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) if he attempted to run for both Senate and president in 2016.
"The law is clear," Grimes told WHAS. "You can't be on the ballot twice for two offices."
Kentucky's current law says "no candidate's name shall appear on any voting machine or absentee ballot more than once," except for certain special elections, according to the AP.
Paul announced in early December he would run for Senate again in 2016. He also said he will decide on a presidential run in "the March/April time frame."
Florida clerks warned criminal charges possible for issuing same-sex marriage licenses
http://www.bradenton.com/2014/12/16/5535308/florida-clerks-warned-criminal.htmlThe Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers Association on Tuesday notified members throughout the state they could be guilty of a criminal act if they issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Making the issue of gay-marriage in Florida even murkier, the states court clerks association notified members Tuesday they could be guilty of a criminal act if they issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples if a federal judges hold on same-sex marriages expires Jan.5.
Floridas Court Clerks & Comptrollers duty is to act in accordance with Florida law, the association said in a statement. Florida Statutes are unique in regard to prohibiting the issuance of a marriage license to a couple that is not a man and a woman, in that it provides that a Clerk who violates this prohibition is guilty of a criminal act and subject to a fine and/or imprisonment.
The statement came after the associations legal counsel, law firm Greenberg Traurig, warned that only the clerk in North Floridas Washington County specifically named in the federal gay-marriage lawsuit would be bound by a ruling by U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle of Tallahassee, who in August found the states gay-marriage ban unconstitutional.

White House: 5 Things You Need to Know About Alaska's Bristol Bay
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2014/12/16/5-things-you-need-know-about-alaskas-bristol-bayvideo at link
President Obama just took action to protect one of Alaska's most powerful economic engines and one of Americas greatest national treasures: Bristol Bay.
Today, he signed a Presidential Memorandum that withdraws these beautiful and pristine waters from all future oil and gas drilling. "These waters are too special and too valuable to auction off to the highest bidder," the President said.
Here are five things you need to know about Bristol Bay:
1. BRISTOL BAY PROVIDES 40 PERCENT OF AMERICA'S WILD-CAUGHT SEAFOOD.
Bristol Bay is one of the world's most valuable fisheries, providing 40 percent of America's seafood and supporting up to $2 billion in commercial fishing every year.
2. BRISTOL BAY HOSTS ONE OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST WILD SALMON RUNS.
While remote, this area is also an economic engine for tourism in Alaska. Bristol Bay drives $100 million in recreational fishing and tourism activity every year.
3. BRISTOL BAY IS HOME TO MULTIPLE THREATENED SPECIES.
Bristol Bay provides important habitat for many species, including the threatened Stellar's eider, sea otters, seals, walruses, Beluga and Killer whales, and the endangered North Pacific Right Whale.
4. THE PRESIDENT'S ACTION PROTECTS MILLIONS OF ACRES FROM DRILLING.
The North Aleutian Basin Planning Area that includes Bristol Bay consists of about 32.5 million acres. The previous Administration set in motion a new lease sale for 2011 that would have opened approximately 5.6 million acres -- about one-fifth of the planning area -- for drilling. In 2010, President Obama temporarily withdrew the Bristol Bay area from oil and gas development, and today's action extends that protection indefinitely.
5. PRESIDENT OBAMA IS NOT THE ONLY PRESIDENT TO USE HIS EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY TO PROTECT LANDS.
The President issues his temporary withdrawal in 2010 using his authority under section 12 of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, which gives the president authority to withdraw offshore areas from potential oil and gas leasing. President Eisenhower was the first to exercise the authority in 1960, withdrawing an area now included in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Since then, presidents on both sides of the aisle have acted to withdraw areas of the Outer Continental Shelf from oil and gas leasing.

Miami and Miami Beach, how's the flooding down there ?
in reference to: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article2564166.html
Report: Tidal flooding to be more frequent in Miami, Key West as seas rise
Tidal flooding in Miami and Key West will increase dramatically over the next 15 years as seas continue to rise, according to a study released Wednesday just as annual high tides begin creeping toward Miami Beach.
Using data collected earlier this year in the White Houses National Climate Assessment, the Union of Concerned Scientists looked at Miami and Key West, along with 50 other communities deemed vulnerable to rising seas driven by climate change. By 2030, researchers concluded, Miami could flood eight times more frequently. By 2045, the number could increase steeply to about 230 floods per year. Key West could fare far worse, with 45 floods a year, or more than three a month, by 2030.
That level of inundation is going to be game changer for us in South Florida, said Nicole Hammer, assistant director of climate change initiatives at Florida Atlantic University, who helped write the reports section on Florida. We wont be able to function the way we do now unless we take pretty aggressive measures to begin to adapt.
With some cities already experiencing flooding up to four times more frequently than in 1970, the authors decided to take a closer look at the forecast for communities from Freeport, Maine, to the Texas coast under scenarios mapped out in the National Climate Assessment. The assessment, released earlier this year, was the Obama administrations attempt at compiling an authoritative report on climate change, the presidents science advisor, John Holdren, said last week.
yes, this is from October but still relevant.
