A Face In The Crowd coming up on TCM

If you haven't seen it, it's worth your time.

It worked for W. and cocaine

It worked for W. and the national guard. W. just said "fuck you all, I'm not going to talk about my past" and left it at that. The press happily left it at that, and obviously the American public left it at that. Twice. I'm sure the same thinking went into how the Romney campaign chose to deal with his tax problems. It probably would have worked again if not for Harry Reid and an opponent who decided to play hardball for a change.

Romney: College students should borrow from their parents and start a business

Seriously. This is not an SNL skit. That's what Mitt Romney told a group of college students. If you are worried about a job after college, borrow $20,000 or $30,000 from your parents and start a business. My father was dead so I really couldn't ask him, but I really missed the boat not asking my mom who went back to work when he died and worked as a secretary til she was 70 where she was hiding all that loot for my small business. I should have mentioned in the letters with the money from my part-time job that I sent back home to her to help with her bills. My mistake. I've heard Mitt Romney say a lot of incredibly stupid things, but this has to be the stupidest. How could he be so stupid as to actually believe this is real advice for normal people? Just as importantly, even if he thinks that sounds reasonable, how could the campaign be so incompetent as to let him say it in public?

An obervation about Limbaugh's porno plan

There is plenty of attention being given to the ugly name calling by Limbaugh, and rightly so. But the whole thing about making a porno for him to watch seems even more bizarre to me. When you think of what Santorum and his ilk have to say about pornography, and given that that is the crowd the attack is pandering to, how are they not completely shocked and repulsed by the suggestion that Rush wants to watch government mandated amateur porn? The name calling, the whole "feminazi" line of crap is nothing new, but this is just plain creepy. I guess I should stop being surprised that conservatives will stand for anything if it comes from their side, but damn.

Remember when the deficit was going to destroy the country?

Doesn't seem that long ago when that was the only thing that mattered to the right. Glad we got that taken care of so we could focus on the religious persecution that will surely destroy the country.

Is the average Republican really anti-birth control?

Abortion is one thing, that is one of the anchors of the republican platform. But birth control? The official position of the Catholic Church notwithstanding, I don't even think your average "religious" voter, much less your average "conservative" voter, is against birth control. I could be wrong, but it just seems like such a wacky issue for Santorum to be pushing in modern times. Am I misreading Republicans by thinking this is a fringe position even for them?
