Rodriguez & His Bushco Masters Torture America To Save Their Necks

Jose Rodriguez, Poster Boy
By Scott Horton

Why did Jose Rodriguez, the former head of the CIA’s clandestine service, destroy ninety-two tapes of interrogation sessions in which terrorism suspects were subjected to waterboarding and other torture techniques? On Sunday, Lesley Stahl put the question to him on 60 Minutes, and he provided an answer:

rodriguez: To protect the people who worked for me and who were at those black sites and whose faces were shown on the tape.

stahl: Protect them from what?

rodriguez: Protect them from Al Qaeda ever getting their hands on these tapes and using them to go after them and their families.

Jose Rodriguez watched all of this happen. He would certainly appreciate the power of these historical precedents and the likelihood that the ninety-two tapes, if released, would come back to haunt him, and quite possibly send him to jail. That, I believe, is why he destroyed them.

Indeed, why has Rodriguez not been charged and put on trial? That’s a question many are asking as he takes to the airwaves to push the idea that torture works. The only satisfactory answer lies in the doctrine of in pari delicto11. In pari delicto applies when both sides of a lawsuit have been involved in the same wrongdoing.—the Justice Department is itself so deeply enmeshed in Rodriguez’s crimes that it could hardly prosecute the case. But if this doctrine explains the DOJ’s failure to prosecute, it also suggests that someone else should be bringing the charges.

Contraception use on the rise as more teens delay sex: Study

Source: Raw Story/AFP

More US teenagers are postponing sex than in 1995, and hormonal contraceptive use is up among those who are sexually active, said US health authorities on Thursday.

However, disparities in safe sex practices remain, with white teenagers more likely to regularly use contraception than African-Americans or Hispanics, said the report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The data came from the National Survey of Family Growth collected for 1995, 2002, and the period of 2006-2010, described as a nationally representative survey.

Over the period 2006-2010, 57 percent of teenage girls aged 15-19 years had never had vaginal intercourse, an increase from 49 percent in 1995, said the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly report.

Occupy Minnesota:WTF? Cops picking up sober Occupiers and Drugging them for "Training"
byHorace Boothroyd IIIFollowforOccupy Wall Street

Video documentation by local activists and independent media shows that police officers and county deputies from across Minnesota have been picking up young people near Peavey Plaza for a training program to recognize drug-impaired drivers. Multiple participants say officers gave them illicit drugs and provided other incentives to take the drugs. The Occupy movement, present at Peavey Plaza since April 7th, appears to be targeted as impaired people are dropped off at the Plaza, and others say they've been rewarded for offering to snitch on the movement.

Local independent media activists and members of Communities United Against Police Brutality began investigating police conduct around the Plaza after witnessing police dropping off impaired people at the plaza and hearing rumors that they were offering people drugs. We videotaped police conduct and interviewed participants, learning some very disturbing information about the DRE program.

Officers stated on record the DRE program, run by the Minnesota State Patrol, has no Institutional Review Board or independent oversight. They agreed no ambulances or EMTs were on site at the Richfield MnDOT facility near the airport where most subjects were taken. Multiple times, participants left Peavey Plaza sober, returned intoxicated, and said they'd been given free drugs by law enforcement. We documented on more than one occasion, someone being told they were sober by one officer, and then picked up by a different officer, and returning intoxicated.

(i have NO idea wtf THIS is???!!!)

President Describes The Killing Of Osama Bin Laden As The 'Most Important' Day Of His Presidency

A year after the killing of Osama bin Laden, President Barack Obama reflected on the decision he made to carry out the deadly raid.

In an interview on "Rock Center With Brian Williams," which aired Wednesday night, Obama described the event as the "most important single day" of his presidency. Yet the death of the Sept. 11th mastermind was actually two decades in the making.

Both Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush had attempted to capture and/or kill bin Laden, but were unable to complete the task. So the focus of the Obama administration, from the very beginning, was to get the al Qaeda leader.

"That was a piece of unfinished business that went to the honor, as well as the security of our country," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.

BP Oil Spill Criminal Investigation May Ensnare Executives In Cover-Up

BP's internal flow-rate models -- and growing evidence that BP employees may have deliberately withheld from federal officials the damaging information found in them -- have emerged as a major focus of the Justice Department's two-year criminal investigation into the spill, according to legal experts and attorneys involved in litigation over the disaster.

Documents obtained by The Huffington Post also indicate that Kurt Mix, a senior BP engineer charged April 24 with obstruction of justice, shared information with more senior BP executives during the spill, including a senior vice president, Jonathan Sprague, who formerly managed BP's Gulf of Mexico operations.

Legal experts said criminal convictions for covering up the size of the spill could land senior BP personnel behind bars and swell the company's civil liability by billions of dollars.

Scott Dean, a BP spokesman, said the company was cooperating with the federal probe, but he declined to comment on the documents obtained by the HuffPost, or on the possibility that others at the firm may be indicted. Mix's attorney said in a statement the charges against her client are meritless. Michael Monico, a Chicago criminal defense lawyer representing Sprague, said his client would not comment on the charges against Mix. BP would not comment on Sprague's role as Mix's supervisor.

Look Who’s Running the Show

Look Who’s Running the Show
By John Cole May 3rd, 2012
I love this:

In an effort to reach out to conservative media, presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney and wife Ann met for two hours Wednesday with several dozen conservative bloggers, reporters and columnists in an off-the-record gathering at a private Washington, D.C., club, according to attendees.
Romney, who struggled with some members of the conservative media during the Republican primary, is banking on their support in his campaign against President Barack Obama, regardless of whether they were previously in his corner or not.

The attendees came from numerous conservative sites and right-of-center publications, including National Review, Daily Caller, American Spectator, Washington Examiner, Right Wing News, Powerline, Townhall, Ace of Spades, RiehlWorldView, White House Dossier, and PJ Media. RNC chairman Reince Preibus also attended.

How dysfunctional is the Republican party that their nominee needs to get the approval of a guy who thinks vaginas remind him of play-doh and a guy who is afraid of imaginary black people.
Ladies and gentlemen, the GOP Base.

Mitt Romney Commissioned Pro-America Pins --- Made Them In China

Mitt Romney Commissioned Pro-America Pins, Made Them In China
By Alex Seitz-Wald on May 3, 2012 at 12:57 pm

The pin Romney commissioned

At a fundraiser in Virginia last night, Mitt Romney touted his experinece running the Salt Lake City Olympic Games in 2002, a familiar refrain, but also introduced a new rhetorical line about something more specific — lapel pins. He told a story about “We Stand United” American flag pins he commissioned for the games, which took place just months after the terror attacks on 9/11. Romney touted his creation of the pins as a means to explain how he hopes to bring Americans together:

ROMNEY: And so we created a little pin and we notified people that we’re now going to be selling these pins and the proceeds are going to go [to charity]. … I just remember going downstairs after it was announced — we were in a big, tall skyscraper in Salt Lake City, and it must have been next door I think where they were selling these pins, and there was a line all the way down the street.

Watch it:

Complicating Romney’s patriotic message is the fact that the pins were made in China, according to a website run by the Utah state government’s culture department, as TPM’s Evan McMorris-Santoro pointed out on Twitter.

ROVE: 'Republicans Never Engage In Politicizing Matters Of National Security'

Rove is never happy with offering only one lie, of course. I guess it's an economies of scale kind of thing. Why waste paper or pixels when the lies can be bundled? So, in addition to claims that Romney would have done what Obama and "even" Jimmy Carter would have done, Rove says that Republicans never engage in politicizing matters of national security. In terms of the 9/11 attacks, their approach has been, he writes, to present "simple, positive statements and images." It's the infernally partisan Democrats who politicize make a partisan issue out of them.

Nor does Team Obama understand that sometimes less is more. An acknowledgment of the day, focused on high praise for those who carried out the operation, would have been a masterstroke. Instead Americans got Web videos, television ads, a political offensive on cable and Sunday morning television shows, several prime-time interviews in the Situation Room, a cover story in Time, and a trip to Kabul. Someone forgot that too much hype cheapens the moment.

Did You Say "Less Is More"?

Frank Rich on the National Circus: A Noun, a Verb, and Osama bin Laden

Hours before President Obama popped up unexpectedly in Afghanistan, Romney and Giuliani popped up at a fire station near Ground Zero to complain that he was politicizing the killing of bin Laden. What was wrong with this picture?

Everything. No one in America politicized bin Laden more than Giuliani, whose entire 2008 presidential campaign amounted to “a noun, a verb, and 9/11” in Joe Biden’s famous wisecrack. When Romney made this charge with Rudy at a site haunted by the deaths of eleven 9/11 responders — instead of speaking without a chaperone in a neutral setting — he was exploiting and politicizing bin Laden’s slaughter too. Albeit to no avail. The spectacle of Obama addressing the troops at Bagram wiped him right out of the news cycle.
