Luntz Tells Dems How to Win

Luntz Tells Dems How to Win

Republican pollster Frank Luntz has come up with a list of five myths about Republicans. He's really talking about voters, not elected officials. Let's take a look at the list:

1. Conservatives care most about the size of government.
2. Conservatives want to deport all illegal immigrants.
3. They worship Wall Street.
4. Conservatives want to slash Social Security and Medicare.
5. Conservatives don’t care about (economic) inequality.

Luntz specializes in finding the right way of asking a question in order to get a positive response. He tests out different phrases to see which ones people respond to the best. So, what he's demonstrating is less what the base of the GOP thinks than the most effective way of getting them to respond the way Luntz wants them to respond. But I still don't think Luntz is wrong in the bigger picture. He has identified five things that are generally, in a statistical sense, not true about Republican voters.

What he has thereby done is paint an exact portrait of how a Democrat should run in conservative areas of the country. Populism, populism, populism.

4 Years Later, Race Is Still Issue for Some Voters

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — This is the land of die-hard Democrats — mill workers, coal miners and union members. They have voted party line for generations, forming a reliable constituency for just about any Democrat who decides to run for office.

But when it comes to President Obama, a small part of this constituency balks.

“Certain precincts in this county are not going to vote for Obama,” said John Corrigan, clerk of courts for Jefferson County, who was drinking coffee in a furniture shop downtown one morning last week with a small group of friends, retired judges and civil servants. “I don’t want to say it, but we all know why.”

A retired state employee, Jason Foreman, interjected, “I’ll say it: it’s because he’s black.”

Anderson Cooper To Rush Limbaugh: 'You Might Try The Gym From Time To Time'

Cooper responded by making Limbaugh the subject of his signature "RidicuList" segment. He mocked Limbaugh as he introduced him to viewers, describing him as the "broadcaster of the highest caliber known for taking a carefully measured, well thought out approach to each topic he tackles."

Cooper replayed the clip of Limbaugh criticizing him for his presence in gossip columns. Cooper responded, mocking Limbaugh's highly controversial attack on Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke. "I don't know if you noticed, but he spoke for a quite a while there and didn't call me a slut even one time," Cooper said. "Now I don't have my Rush to English dictionary handy, but I'm pretty sure that means we're best friends now."

Cooper said he was surprised to learn "that Rush Limbaugh was such an avid gossip enthusiast." Cooper said he could count the amount of bars he's been to on one hand but confirmed that he does frequent the gym. He then encouraged Limbaugh to "try the gym from time to time."

Cooper suggested Limbaugh prop up "the National Enquirer right there on the Elliptical, crank up the volume on Access Hollywood, and get (his) research done at the same time (he's) improving (his) big heart."

Blind Activist Has Fellowship At U.S. University, China Expected To Allow Travel

BEIJING -- The U.S. and China forged the outlines of a deal Friday to end a diplomatic standoff over legal activist Chen Guangcheng that would let him travel to the U.S. with his family for a university fellowship.

After days of behind-the-scenes talks, reversals and emotional calls by Chen from a guarded hospital room, the U.S. and China made a series of announcements signaling a logjam had been broken.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Chen may apply for travel permits to study abroad. An American University has offered Chen a fellowship with provisions for his family, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said, adding that the U.S. expects Beijing to quickly process their travel permits, after which U.S. visas would be granted.

"Over the course of the day, progress has been made to help him have the future that he wants, and we will be staying in touch with him as this process moves forward," U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said speaking to reporters after two days of annual strategic talks in Beijing.

AZ review shows private prisons cost more. So legislature ends the study.
by Mother Mags

If you're a state hellbent on turning corrections over to the for-profit prison industry, what do you do when an annual survey shows that private jails are often more expensive than the old fashioned public variety? Especially if, by law, the state may contract for private prisons only if they prove to be less expensive? Simple, just eliminate that pesky study.

Buried in the $8.6 billion budget proposal passed at the state Capitol this week is a plan to "eliminate the requirement for a quality and cost review of private prison contracts."

It means there would no longer be an annual review of how private prisons operate.

There's no fucking "war on women" my fucking ass!

FRI MAY 04, 2012 AT 12:42 AM PDT
Stupid f*cking women, the "war" is a f*cking myth, ya hear??

I don't have any oil in my uterus!
I don't have any office space in my uterus!
I don't have any gas in my uterus!
I sure as hell don't have to "lend" it out to any body!
I don't consent to pregnancy just because I have sex with my significant other!
My fucking body is my own!

One more thing! Why is it that only women are getting pummeled by this fucking bullshit!? Those fuckers who have this thing called a "PENIS" were there too, you know, during the fucking process of SEX! Why isn't THEIR shit being "regulated" and put on fucking display!? Why is it always the women!?

It's always the woman's fault her birth control failed.
It's always the woman's fault she forgot to take her birth control on time.
It's always the woman's fault she didn't ask about the condom.
It's always the woman's fault her partner didn't wear a condom.
It's always the woman's fault that she was raped.
It's always the woman's fault that her husband raped her.
It's always the woman's fault she's poor.
It's always the woman's fault if she doesn't want to be pregnant.
It's always the woman's fault for fucking everything!

“God bless you, J.T. You will be fiercely missed”

A message posted on their website today read, “God bless you, J.T. You will be fiercely missed:”

In general, the theories surrounding Ready’s death follow a few expected narratives: that Ready was killed by drug smugglers; that Jews running the federal government had come calling; even that Ready was acting in self-defense when he was killed. Whatever the flavor of conspiracy, it’s not surprising that Ready’s death should garner such a response. He was a darling of the movement – a well-spoken and husky presence on the border, almost always armed as if he were going to war.
