Former child janitor to Gingrich: Your jobs plan ‘offended’ me

Former child janitor to Gingrich: Your jobs plan ‘offended’ me

Gingrich: Children of poor families are lazy, should be put to work

“I mean, I need to help my mom,” Cendejas replied, adding that his parents were undocumented. “Thank God I had Georgetown to save my butt, you know? … All my friends, they’re pregnant, they’re in gangs, in jail, and we did the same job, working as janitors. So for me, your remark was a little offensive towards me.”

“I’m sorry if you were offended,” Gingrich quipped. “Both of my daughters worked as janitors at the local Baptist Church and they earned the money and they didn’t think it was demeaning, and they actually liked the idea that they earned their own money as kids, and they kept their own money because they thought work had inherent dignity.”

“But they come from a wealthy family,” Cendejas pointed out.

“That’s not the point,” the candidate shrugged. “You and I just disagree.”

MSNBC Pres. Defends Al Sharpton’s Role In Trayvon Case: We Didn’t Hire Him To Be ‘Neutered’

Source: Mediate

Griffin told the AP he sees no such conflict. Sharpton wasn’t hired to be a “neutered kind of news presenter,” he said. From the AP:

Griffin, talking before Monday’s show, said he hadn’t seen any conflict with Sharpton’s role on and off the air in the Martin case. He said Sharpton had fulfilled his requirement to honest and upfront about his activities, and credited “PoliticsNation” with helping to make it a national story.

Zimmerman had no intention of not following Trayvon.

Zimmerman's 911 call lasted for 4:07 minutes
When did Zimmerman go back to his truck to have this so-called encounter with Trayvon?

Trayvon was talking on his cell phone with his girlfriend when she heard Trayvon ask "Why are you following me?" That happened within a minute of Trayvon's death.

Her cell phone records show that the call began @ 7:12 p.m. After Zimmerman's 911 call, the Dispatcher received 911 calls reporting screams and gunshot(s), one where you can hear both the screams and the gunshot.

At 7:17p.m., as Officer Smith responds to original 911 call, he arrives on the scene and receives another call from dispatch about gunshot(s) being fired. The police report shows that he arrived on the scene at 7:17 p.m.

Trayvon was already dead. He was found lying on his stomach with his hands underneath his body. If Trayvon and Zimmerman were fighting and Zimmerman shot Trayvon at close range, how did Zimmerman have enough time to get Trayvon off of him before witnesses and police came out to see what happened? Where was the blood splatter? When does someone shot in the chest fall forward?

lots more ?s:

Zimmerman's account, as written in the Post, that the second encounter was at Zimmerman's truck, how is it that the actual crime scene is quite some distance away from the truck? The truck is parked on the street. Trayvon was killed in a cutaway between rows of houses. The only way for a "second" confrontation to occur is for Zimmerman to leave his truck and follow Trayzon along the path, where he was subsequently shot and killed.

Romney donor at center of 'pink slime' controversy

By ALEXANDER BURNS | 3/29/12 2:24 PM EDT

The company at the center of a national controversy over ammonia-treated beef byproducts – known in the media as “pink slime” – is headed by a major donor to Mitt Romney’s political action committees.

Beef Products Inc., which has suspended operations at several plants due to criticism of its products, was founded by Eldon Roth – a prominent Midwestern businessman who has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to pro-Romney groups.

Roth hosted a fundraiser for Romney in Sioux Falls last fall, according to the Associated Press. And the Washington Post reported last year that Roth and his wife, Regina, cut $190,000 in checks to Romney’s network of state-level PACs in 2010.

He has also donated to a number of other Republicans, including John Thune and Tim Pawlenty. In Romney’s book, “No Apology,” he described Roth as an American success story for having started out in a “blue-collar job in a cold storage plant, before coming up with a cold-storage idea that made him a successful businessman with a “very large jet.”

It seems George Zimmerman has some friends in high places

Source: Sanford police chief, state attorney made Zimmerman 'no charge' call in person

It seems George Zimmerman has some friends in high places. Despite the fact that at least one Sanford police detective did not buy Zimmerman's story that Trayvon Martin posed a threat to his life, officials at the highest level of local justice said to "cut him loose."

Joy-Ann Reid reported earlier Wednesday for TheGrio that state attorney Wolfinger and the Sanford Chief of Police were at the scene that evening before telling the police department to let him go. While there's no way to know whether these officials and former Virginia Supreme Court Magistrate Robert Zimmerman play golf together or hang out or what. What is known is that these officials visited the crime scene and then told police to release Zimmerman without taking any pictures of the alleged broken nose or cut head, without getting blood samples from the bloody t-shirt at least one officer alleges he saw, without even performing the most basic investigative procedures.

None of these things happened, and Zimmerman went free.
Trayvon Martin's phone records corroborate his girlfriend's account that he was on the phone with her just moments before the shooting, yet George Zimmerman's father insists she's lying about talking to him.

So far the only story that has been corroborated with fact is Trayvon Martin's, posthumously. Yet George Zimmerman is not yet facing any legal action for shooting an unarmed kid

Dark Visions Of "Freedom"

This morning in America's highest court, freedom seems to be less about the absence of constraint than about the absence of shared responsibility, community, or real concern for those who don't want anything so much as healthy children, or to be cared for when they are old. Until today, I couldn't really understand why this case was framed as a discussion of "liberty." This case isn't so much about freedom from government-mandated broccoli or gyms. It's about freedom from our obligations to one another, freedom from the modern world in which we live. It's about the freedom to ignore the injured, walk away from those in peril, to never pick up the phone or eat food that's been inspected.

Can We End That Era -by Atrios

Can We End That Era
For the past couple of decades we've all (by "we" I man all the Very Serious People in the chattering classes) bought into the fantasy that all we need to do is pursue Conservative Means to achieve Liberal Ends and everything will be awesome. First of all, those conservative means usually don't work (I won't say never, but that discussion is too great for the margin of this blog post). But more importantly, the point of such "compromises" was to actually pass some legislation that might achieve stuff, and was premised on the idea that there were people in both political parties who want to make life better for poor people by improving educational opportunities a bit and maybe help a few more people get decent health insurance. Whether those people in the Republican party ever really existed or if they just mugged for the cameras and the Villagers I don't know, but they don't exist anymore. Right now we have one political party that is very up front about and proud of their desire to mug everyone in the non-millionaire club, steal all their money, and give it to rich people. It's time for the other political party to recognize that the era of dumb compromises is over, and if they'd actually come up with a way to help people, instead of a plan to set up a program to provide the incentivss to blahblahblahblahblahblah....

Scalia mocks Obamacare provision that doesn't even exist (& nobody calls him on it...)

We should expect much more from the political class than this. From Olivier Knox at Yahoo News:

Nothing like having the best and brightest at the highest level of the American justice system. With knuckle-dragging blockheads like Scalia on the court, how is it possible for a country to prosper, let alone lead in this century?

From Olivier Knox at Yahoo News:

Conservative Justice Antonin Scalia suggested on Wednesday that the Supreme Court could strike the "Cornhusker Kickback" from President Barack Obama's landmark health care overhaul without having to invalidate the whole law. He was right, in a way: The notorious provision isn't in the law.

The "Cornhusker Kickback" was the derogatory nickname of one of several sweetheart deals designed to ensure that the law had enough votes to pass. Amid a public uproar, lawmakers ultimately stripped the measure from the law.

But no one—not Scalia's eight colleagues on the highest court in the land, not Deputy Solicitor General Edwin Kneedler, there to represent Obama, and not the superstar lawyer challenging the law on behalf of 26 states, Paul Clement—challenged his claim.
