Former President Donald Trump told friends he would not appear at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Florida if Mike Pence, his always-loyal vice president, was also on the bill, according to people familiar with his conversations.
Details have emerged as Trump prepares to make his return to the limelight over the weekend with a speech expected to lay out his vision for the future of the Republican Party and include a forceful critique of President Biden's immigration policies. The strategy is to keep the 45th commander in chief ahead of others mulling a run for the party's presidential nomination.

FL Agriculture Commissioner will NOT Lower flag in honor of Rush
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried said Monday that she will direct her department not to lower its flags in honor of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, who died of complications from lung cancer last week.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said last week that he would order the states flags to be flown at half-staff on the day of Limbaughs funeral, which has yet to be announced.
I will not lower the flags at my Departments state offices for Rush Limbaugh, Fried said Monday in a tweet. Lowering our flag should reflect unity, not division and raising our standards, not lowering them.

FBI Seized Congressional Cellphone Records
Within hours of the storming of the Capitol on January 6, the FBI began securing thousands of phone and electronic records connected to people at the scene of the rioting including some related to members of Congress, raising potentially thorny legal questions, The Intercept reports.
Using special emergency powers and other measures, the FBI has collected reams of private cellphone data and communications that go beyond the videos that rioters shared widely on social media.
..................
The cellphone data includes many records from the members of Congress and staff members who were at the Capitol that day to certify President Joe Bidens election victory. The FBI is searching cell towers and phones pinging off cell sites in the area to determine visitors to the Capitol, a recently retired senior FBI official told The Intercept. The data is also being used to map links between suspects, which include members of Congress, they also said. (Capitol Police are reportedly investigating whether lawmakers helped rioters gain access to the Capitol as several Democrats have alleged they did, though Republican officials deny this.)
The Justice Department has publicly said that its task force includes senior public corruption officials. That involvement indicates a focus on public officials, i.e. Capitol Police and members of Congress, the retired FBI official said.

Merrick Garland just left Josh Hawley in a smoldering heap
Garland skewered Hawley by pointing out the hypocrisy of the Thin Blue Line rhetoric, which was plainly evident on Jan. 6.
Asked by Josh Hawley if he supports defunding the police, Merrick Garland says he does not, citing the ...horror experienced by police officers at the Jan 6 attack on the Capitol

FAUCI: 'We've Done Worse Than Most Any Other Country'
Fauci Delivers Blunt Assessment of U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll:
Fauci said. I believe that if you look back historically, weve done worse than most any other country and were a highly developed rich country.
Five hundred thousand Americans families grieving all across the country, Stephanopoulos said. Did this have to be?
Certainly some of it, but not this bad, Fauci said. I believe that if you look back historically, weve done worse than most any other country and were a highly developed rich country.
Fauci did not invoke or directly assign blame to former President Donald Trump. But he did cite the prior administrations lack of a national strategy as a primary reason why the virus has hit so hard.
There were things back then, if you go back and think about what you might have done the kind of disparate responses of different states rather than having a unified approach, Fauci said. But its so tough to go back and try to do a metaphorical autopsy on how things went. It was just bad. It is bad now.
