About Me

I've been a female working a "man's job" (mechanical engineer), stay at home Mom (6 kids), working Mom (6 kids to put through college), unemployed, underemployed, temporarily employed and now working from home! We live on an old, small farm with 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house, variable number of chickens out in the yard.

Just got an e-mail from my husband's employer regarding retiree health benefits:

Q. Did Health Care Reform dictate the change for (redacted)'s retiree medical benefit?

A. No. It did, however remove two primary obstacles that retirees faced if the tried to purchase healthcare insurance on their own (elimination of pre-existing condition clauses and life time limits). Federal health reform offers more options for individuals in the insurance market. More choice, more stability and less cost.

Well played, Google!

OK - it looks like the shut-down is ON - when will it be resolved, and how?

It's not a shutdown, it's a lock-out!

Really poor car design - touch screens -

In older cars, there are a lot of buttons and switches - each one a different shape in a different location. It was possible to adjust the windows, change the radio station, turn off the heater etc without ever taking your eyes off the road. What is the difference between looking down at a touch screen and texting while driving? If auto makers want to impress me, let's get the speedometer and engine lights on a heads-up display!

Walking Dead spin-off - how will the story arc be different than the original?

So much of Walking Dead seems to me to be about how much more dangerous the humans are to each other than the zombies. Will the spin-off show us people who take care of each other better?

To all Federal employees: It's not fair that you will be taking the hit on the shut-down,

but take comfort that your pain is going to help bring down the Tea Party!

Thank you!

Saddest story about Breaking Bad - no spoilers here !

My son just moved back in with us to start a job today (YAY!)

So, last night he's flipping through the channels looking for AMC.

I'm about to tell him we only have basic cable, when up pops AMC.

AMC is on basic cable? I never knew that!

So, all these years, I could have be watching Breaking bad, the Walking Dead, Mad Men and Hell on Wheels?!?!

I live in a world all my own, I tell you!

Hey - where are all the Breaking Bad threads?

Can I have a round of pity?

I'm trying to get my weight down to 130, and my daughter is trying to get her weight up to 130!
