Europe Will Let Vaccinated U.S. Tourists Visit

Europe may require official proof of vaccination We need vaccine passports https://politicalwire.com/2021/04/25/e-u-will-let-vaccinated-u-s-tourists-visit/

“American tourists who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will be able to visit the European Union over the summer, more than a year after shutting down nonessential travel from most countries to limit the spread of the coronavirus,” the New York Times reports.

“The fast pace of vaccination in the United States, and advanced talks between authorities there and the European Union over how to make vaccine certificates acceptable as proof of immunity for visitors, will enable the European Commission, the executive branch of the European Union, to recommend a switch in policy that could see trans-Atlantic leisure travel restored.”

DOJ Considers Charging Derek Chauvin in 2017 Incident

Chauvin should be tried for this crime also

https://twitter.com/RealKHiveQueenB/status/1386063255890583552

The hits just don’t stop coming for ex-Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. Now that he’s been convicted of murdering George Floyd, the Department of Justice is considering the possibility of charging him in connection to a 2017 incident where the man who knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes also allegedly knelt on a Black teenager for a whopping 17 minutes.

ABC News reports that when prosecutors were preparing for the case that would bring Chauvin to justice, they received several videos of the incident with the Black teen and said they were shocked by what they saw. Of course, this evidence wasn’t allowed at trial because the defense successfully argued that jurors should be barred from hearing about Chauvin’s history of neck and body restraints on suspects. (Which is wild considering the fact that defense attorneys also argued that Floyd’s past arrests should be admissible and some of that “evidence” was allowed in.)

From ABC:

The videos, from Sept. 4, 2017, allegedly showed Chauvin striking a Black teenager in the head so hard that the boy needed stitches, then allegedly holding the boy down with his knee for nearly 17 minutes, and allegedly ignoring complaints from the boy that he couldn’t breathe.

“Those videos show a far more violent and forceful treatment of this child than Chauvin describes in his report [of the incident],” Matthew Frank, one of the state prosecutors, wrote in a court filing at the time.

A former Navy commander could become the most senior openly transgender Pentagon official

This is a very good move by Joe
https://twitter.com/FeistyLibLady/status/1386057328852602880

A former Navy commander could become the highest-ranking defense official who is openly transgender, as barriers for transgender service members continue to fall.

Shawn Skelly, a retired aviator, was nominated by the White House on Friday to serve as the assistant secretary of defense for readiness, a key assignment as the Pentagon refocuses its priorities to adversaries such as China and Russia.

Her appointment comes as the Biden administration chips away at Trump-era bans on transgender service members that restricted open service and blocked access to relevant medical care. The Pentagon reversed those policies last month, largely returning to policies set by the Obama administration.

Brenda “Sue” Fulton, a former Army officer who in 1980 was commissioned in the first U.S. Military Academy class to admit women, was also nominated to serve in a top Pentagon post, as assistant secretary for personnel and reserve affairs. She became the first openly gay member of the academy’s Board of Visitors after her appointment by President Barack Obama in 2011.

Why Biden's Armenian Genocide Declaration Really Is a Big Deal

This is a big deal
https://twitter.com/politico/status/1386047458367741957

Biden’s declaration represents an important step toward fulfilling America’s commitment to human rights across the world. At home, it begins to close the open wound at the center of the Armenian American experience.

Every American of Armenian descent — indeed, every Armenian in the global diaspora — lives with the ghosts of the Armenian Genocide. We learn the harrowing family stories at an early age. We’re shown photographs that we can never forget. The soundtrack to our lives is Der Voghormia, the haunting liturgical hymn “Lord have mercy.”

What binds us together is a pride and joy in our ancient heritage, but also a sense of shared sadness over this brutal piece of unfinished historical business. Whether it’s the Armenian American communities of California or Boston or Chicago or Detroit or Philadelphia or anywhere else, we have been trapped in a mourning period with no end, a funeral cortege with no destination, so long as the truth of what happened in 1915 was denied and the searing experiences of loved ones went unrecognized.

America occupied an important and positive role in this epic tragedy. Its missionaries and diplomats were among those who courageously raised the alarms about the atrocities unfolding thousands of miles away to a little-known Christian people. It served as a refuge for countless genocide survivors.

Houston Methodist employees have until June 7 to get COVID-19 vaccine or they're fired

https://twitter.com/KHOU/status/1385751592222212097

The hospital says it’s the same protocol as with the flu vaccine which was made a requirement back in 2009.

CEO Dr. Marc Boom calls the COVID-19 vaccine rule their “opportunity to keep leading medicine," and says by doing this, they are helping to stop the spread of this deadly virus. He says it is the employee’s obligation to keep their patients safe.

But Bridges says she’s not alone in her concerns. Since she’s gone public, she says hundreds of employees have reached out to her, and they feel the same.

“Basically, they’re either going to quit, get fired, and some have reached out to me literally crying, saying they’re going to hold off until the last day and take that shot against their will because they have to feed their family," Bridges said.

Nevada secretary of state finds no 'evidentiary support' for GOP election fraud claims

There was no fraud to find
https://twitter.com/CNNPolitics/status/1385414637789892610

Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske's office told the state Republican Party on Wednesday that an investigation had found no "evidentiary support" for its allegations of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

"And while the NVGOP raises policy concerns about the integrity of mail-in voting, automatic voter registration, and same-day voter registration, these concerns do not amount to evidentiary support for the contention that the 2020 general election was plagued by widespread voter fraud," said the letter, addressed to the Nevada Republican Party.

Cegavske, the only statewide Republican office holder, said in the letter that elections staff had inventoried and labeled four boxes of materials that had been delivered to the state Capitol on March 4 -- and then to her office -- and had investigated the accompanying allegations of voter fraud.

Of the 122,918 records to support the accompanying allegations filed by members of the Nevada GOP, Cegavske's office narrowed down the list of unique "Election Integrity Violation Reports" to 3,963, some of which were already under investigation. An accompanying report fleshed out why many of the complaints were unsubstantiated.
