Democrats are preparing to deal with election disruptions

I have been volunteering on voter protection effort for a very long time. I have been an election judge and have runned the voter protection war room. I have trained 100s of poll watchers for the 2012 and 2016 elections. I just took the course on elcection law for election workers and they covered a topic that I had never seen before. There is a handout that provides the law on what constitutes an unlawful militia This is from the course-Link to information on unlawful militias in Texas: www.law.georgetown.edu/icap/wp-content/uploads/sites/32/2020/09/Texas.pdf?

In Texas poll watchers are very limited in Texas and cannot talk to voters. Poll watchers have to be appointed by a party or a candidate and there are severe limitations on what a poll watcher can do. I had to deal with True the Vote poll watchers in 2012 and we ended up having no real issues. The presiding election judge can eject a poll watcher who violates the rules including trying to talk to a voter.

This course deals with some of the proposed tactics that may be used by trump supporters. The presiding election judge has the power to arrest persons who violate the election or penal code at a polling location which includes the area outside a polling location. Having firearms within a set distrance of a voting location can be stopped if the intent is to intimidate voters. Under Texas law, a riot can be 7 people who attempt to disrupt voting and it is illegal to obstruct access to polling location. We have never covered this topics in past election law seminars.

I am glad that we are preparing to deal with some of the tactics that are being discussed.

Texas Guv Sued For Move To Severely Limit Mail Ballot Drop-Off Locations

Chad Dunn has filed a lawsuit on this act of voter suppression

The lawsuit, filed Thursday evening, alleges that the new policy — which was announced the day before several drop-off locations were scheduled to open — is a violation of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment and the Voting Rights Act.

“The impact of this eleventh-hour decisions is momentous, targets Texas’ most vulnerable voters—older voters, and voters with disabilities—and results in wild variations in access to absentee voting drop-off locations depending on the county a voter resides in,” the lawsuit said. “It also results in predictable disproportionate impacts on minority communities that already hit hardest by the COVID-19 crisis.”

County election officials from Harris County, Travis County, Fort Bend County and El Paso County are also named as defendants in the suit, as is Texas Secretary of State Ruth Hughs.

The lawsuit notes that counties like Travis and Harris — which have populations larger than some U.S. states and also sprawling geographies — had planned to offer several locations for absentee voters to drop off their ballots.

MAJOR NEWS from the White House physician. POSITIVE FOR COVID.

10/1 Daily Dose of Joe

Friends -- see below for today's Dose of Joe.

Yesterday, Jill and Joe Biden embarked on the “Build Back Better Express” train tour to travel across eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania— areas that went to Trump in 2016. Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden launched the tour in Cleveland, Ohio where he gave remarks on what’s at stake in this election, how Donald Trump has failed working families, and what Biden will do as President to rebuild the middle class. You can watch full remarks HERE.

Doug Emhoff will travel to Virginia during early voting. He will visit an early voting location in Henrico County with former Governor Terry McAuliffe and Virginia House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn, and then will attend a Jewish Americans for Biden meet and greet with Filler-Corn and other Virginians. Mr. Emhoff will then visit an Alexandria early voting location with Governor McAuliffe and Congressman Don Beyer (VA-08), and they will wrap up the day with a visit to La Cocina with Latino small business leaders.

Yesterday, the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) endorsed Joe Biden for President. And on Monday, former Montana Governor and Republican National Committee Chair Marc Racicot endorsed Biden as well. And Governor Marc Racicot endorsed Joe Biden during a Yellowstone Public Radio interview.

A new Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters has Biden leading Donald Trump nationally 51-42%. And a new YouGov poll has Biden leading nationally 50-42%.

@JoeBiden: Last night, I went toe-to-toe with Donald Trump and laid out my vision for a stronger, more inclusive America. Check out a few of the top moments from the first debate:

@JoeBiden: Chip in to help us take this train all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave: https://joe.link/36kuCpH

@JoeBiden: Listening to folks and discussing how we can make their lives better. It’s what our Build Back Better Express Tour is all about — and it’s what I’ll do every day as your president.
