Puerto Rico honors Obama, LBJ visits with statues

(AP) SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — U.S. President Barack Obama and former President Lyndon B. Johnson now have a permanent presence in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rican officials unveiled bronze, life-sized statues of Obama and Johnson along the so-called "avenue of heroes" outside the island's capitol building. The statues honor every sitting president who has ever visited Puerto Rico, dating back to Theodore Roosevelt. Obama became the eighth when he visited in June.

The island's representative in the U.S. Congress, Pedro Pierluisi, and other officials at the Presidents Day unveiling ceremony Monday called for greater rights for Puerto Ricans, including the right to vote for president.
