Fact Checking Trump's Claim "Obama did it too"

We're hearing a lot of chatter from those defending this middle eastern immigration and travel ban.

They are all repeating the same thing as if on cue, "Obama did it" or "You all are just mad because Trump did it".

These sound like potentially valid responses.
Valid that is if the facts of this matter are completely and thoroughly ignored.

"Trumpís comparison of his immigration actions to Obamaís policy in 2011 is a faulty one. The fact is that the Obama administration was responding to a known and specific threat from one country and limited its response to refugees from that country, while Trumpís order temporarily bans refugees from all countries ó indefinitely in the case of those from Syria ó and temporarily bars all other visitors from seven predominately Muslim countries."

Like a fart in the wind

That about sums up the RW and Jill Stein "Obama did it too...both parties are the same...Hillary = Trump" folks.

They have little meaning now other than to reach back and try to justify some demented guilt they are experiencing now that our country is being dismantled by a raving lunatic.

How much longer will they drag up Obama and Hillary in their pathetic attempts to assuage their guilt?

Answer: who the fuck cares?

Robert Reich on the Muslim ban

Everything tRump touches turns to crap.
He is making the world less safe, more hostile, and it's only been one week.

Reich makes very good points here:

Today Trump closed Americaís borders to refugees, ordering that families fleeing the slaughter in Syria be indefinitely blocked from entering the United States.

And he temporarily suspended immigration from several predominantly Muslim countries -- Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

These are not countries from which terrorists have attacked the U.S. (the 9/11 attackers were from Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates).

But Trump's order excludes several predominantly Muslim nations in which Trump now has or has had business interests. (See http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/inside-trumps-global-business-interests/story?id=44416694) In the United Arab Emirates, Trump has licensing deals in place for two golf-courses in Dubai (after Trumpís election, his partners in the deal told ABC News that the Trump brand had become "stronger, more global". In Turkey, Trump struck a deal in 2008 with the Dogan Group to license his brand to Trump Towers Istanbul, one with residential and the other with commercial office space. Trump also has had extensive deals in Saudi Arabia.

Trump also ordered that Christians and others from minority religions be granted priority over Muslims.

Trump signed the executive order shortly after issuing a statement noting that today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, citing the ďdepravity and horror inflicted on innocent people by Nazi terror.Ē

The irony is tragic.

Letís not mince words. Trump is engaged in religious persecution. Nazi Germany did far worse, of course. But Trump is setting America on a dangerous and disgraceful course.

He is violating two fundamental moral precepts of this nation: that we provide refuge to those fleeing repression and slaughter, and we do not discriminate based on religion. And heís playing directly into the hands of extremists who want the Muslim world to believe the United States is deeply anti-Muslim.

The danger of attacking sanctuary cites

When you turn cops into immigration officers (a Federal responsibility) as the President is trying to pressure them into, there will be more crime, more distrust, and more human tragedy. When anyone is afraid to report a crime the criminals will know this and take advantage. The criminals win.
This is why his plan to pressure sanctuary cities is so destructive.
Trump's plan, if enacted, will make us all less safe.
Fortunately the men and women of law enforcement in California who serve our communities understand this and do not want the trust they are working so hard to build with our communities destroyed. They do not want increased crime rates. They want us to trust them so that crimes get reported and I support them in this effort.
The President is misguided...once again.

California police see dangers in Trump's illegal immigration crackdown

President Trumpís plan to enlist local police and sheriffís departments in immigration enforcement has set the stage for a pitched battle with California officials who have long prioritized building ties with immigrant communities.

Trumpís plan, which was issued Wednesday as part of a pair of executive orders, seeks to broaden the reach of federal immigration authorities into county jails.

I expect Dump to start a conflict or war

This is what "leaders" do when they get enough push back from their citizens.

It gets everyone to shut up, "come together", support "their country" and it enriches the military industrial complex. A win win for them.

It worked for Iraq. 75% approval at the time.

I believe this is the GOP game plan

They are going to have Donald as the distraction for headline grabbing. They don't care if peeing comes out. In fact the GOP would welcome it as a big distraction for the media.

Meanwhile, like they promised starting Monday, they are going to dismantle any traces of government that don't benefit the wealthy special interests.

As long as they have just enough scandal cover but not quite impeachment until they are done with him.

What do you think?

Fired up and ready to go in San Diego!!

Let's all get out and march today!

Goodbye public lands

Another scam is brewing for 640 million acres of Federal land.

Here's how it works:

Claim it's worthless (not true).
Give it to the States.
The States can't afford to maintain it so they sell it off to mining, drilling, and logging interests.

Goodbye access for public recreation, goodbye jobs, and hello more environmental destruction and pollution, all for the sake of big business special interests.

It's a terrible deal for us both in losing access, blowing a hole in the Federal budget, and our economy.

Congress moves to give away national lands, discounting billions in revenue

Though recreation on public lands creates $646bn in economic stimulus and 6.1m jobs, Republicans are setting in motion a giveaway of Americansí birthright

"Essentially, the revised budget rules deny that federal land has any value at all, allowing the new Congress to sidestep requirements that a bill giving away a piece of federal land does not decrease federal revenue or contribute to the federal debt.

Republican eagerness to cede federal land to local governments for possible sale, mining or development is already moving states to act. Western states, where most federal land is concentrated, are already introducing legislation that pave the way for land transfers."

Why calling Trump illegitimate might legitimately work
Democrats are slowly moving from attacking Trumpís character to attacking his legitimacy, and just purely from a strategic standpoint, it could be a better option

I like this strategy.
Thank you John Lewis.

They call austerity...

..."draining the swamp".

I'm convinced after reading, hearing, and seeing DT supporters speak out on social media and the M$M.

It's not wealthy interests that are the source of the corruption of our democracy in tRump supporter's minds. If it is then it takes a big back seat to cutting the size of programs according to the guidelines of the Heritage Foundation and the like.

They even say, "rich people have never harmed me".

They are thrilled with this opportunity to "cut government spending" and their definition of "drain the swamp" is not what ours is.
Remember their mantra, "smaller government".

Unfortunately the cuts coming will damage us all.
