In perhaps the saddest statement since Jan. 6 on the state of American Democracy, Republican lawmakers across the country have been asked to say three simple words: Joe. Biden. Won. But they just can’t bring themselves to do it, even though Biden beat President Donald Trump by more than 7 million popular votes and trounced him in the Electoral College toll. In other words, those GOP lawmakers refuse to recognize the will of the people. Which means they no longer recognize democracy.

A Canadian political scientist has urged his country's government to prepare for the possibility of the United States becoming a right-wing dictatorship before 2030.

In an op-ed published in The Globe and Mail on Friday, Thomas Homer-Dixon, an executive director of the Cascade Institute at Royal Roads University in British Columbia, warned his country had to prepare for the worst-case scenario.

"By 2025, American democracy could collapse, causing extreme domestic political instability, including widespread civil violence," Homer-Dixon wrote.

After keeping his identity secret for more than 24 hours following a shooting spree in multiple locations that claimed five lives on Monday night, law enforcement officials in Denver finally named Lyndon James McLeod as the gunman who ultimately died after a brief shootout with police.

A Twitter account for Colorado Springs Anti-Fascists, which describes itself as a group that is “Exposing fascists and disrupting their organizing in so-called Colorado,” tweeted to this writer that McLeod “was a white nationalist.” The group pointed to its own tweet making a similar claim.
