La Lioness Priyanka
La Lioness Priyanka's JournalOn World AIDS day, a reminder that HRC had a plan to usher in an AIDS free genereration
whereas Mike Pence enabled an HIV outbreak in his state spurred by public health cuts and his stance against needle exchange. People who try to tell you that Democrats and Republicans are just the same, it does not matter who is in power, are lying.
No, they are not just exaggerating or mildly distorting the truth. They are lying.

With the exception of a brief detour into Indiana Gov. Mike Pences (R) anti-abortion beliefs during the vice presidential debate on Oct. 4, the night centered around foreign policy, not public health.
Its a shame, since lackluster public health efforts are what led to the defining moment of Pences one-term Indiana governorship: a massive HIV outbreak spurred by public health funding cuts and Pences moralistic stance against needle exchanges.
A timeline of the HIV outbreak, the worst in state history, reads like a roadmap of what to do if you want to create a public health crisis.
Prior to the Civil Rights Act, Democrats used to have some of the most virulent racists
in their party. After the CRA passed, these racists slowly moved on.
When some white men start saying things like 'we need to ditch identity politics' the rest of us begin to wonder what Democratic party are you trying to build?
one whose motto is 'stronger together' or one that attracts the white working class while pushing every other working class person out of the door?
People need to think more carefully about the type of coalition they truly want and who they are willing to shove out for it.
1964 was not that long ago.
This was an election about identity politics: white identity politics
to see so many supposed liberal white men then turn around and state that identity politics do not win elections, is really laughable.
They do win election. In fact just did win an election.
I suspect a lot of these 'no more identity politics' people, are just against the rest of our identities taking center stage or having equal voice.
The incredibly invisibility of WOC over 30 & also why I wish Trump wasn’t imploding
There are several reasons that this election has been incredibly frustrating as a woman of color over 30. I was listening to the 538 podcast where one of the hosts (Harry Enten, maybe?) asked why we dont hear as much about HRC supporters. Here is the simple answer, women of color over 30 dont matter and maybe all older women dont matter, and we have been her most enthusiastic supporters. So this entire election has been about Trump voters and Bernie voters, even though Hillary has way more voters. This was already frustrating and is about to be more frustrating as Trump implodes.
You would think a hard core supporter like me, would love this Trump implosion but I am actually really upset about it. Apparently, so is the Brooklyn team if NPR is right. One, his most recent comments about women are disgusting, and generally brings down the whole national conversation. It compels the people who are voting for him to support these comments, and try to normalize this behavior. It reinforces the incredibly misogyny in society. And mostly, I hate it because it will allow the media and the pundits to discount us again. I can almost see the narrative that Hillary didnt win, her voters dont really like her, they are not enthusiastic about her, they only voted for her because Trump is a disaster. This will be the narrative post-November.
I think Hillary could have defeated any one of those GOP assholes running for president. It sucks that she got such a shitty opponent. It sucks because it gives a whole narrative to the media that continues to discount female leaders.
Hillary Clinton, is the most qualified person to run for this office and her historic victory will not be about her. It will not be about her supporters. It will be about a man, a disgusting gross man and his deplorable supporters. And this is just incredibly frustrating.
Yes, I am a strong Hillary partisan, and no I am not ashamed of it.
If you are an immigrant, a person of color, a foreigner in any sense in this country (even in the sense that you are born in Hawaii, but because of the color of your skin, a significant part of the country thinks you are from Kenya), this election feels like an existential threat. So yes, I am more likely to snap at people who I believe are not supporting her, whether here or IRL this election is a threat to me, and I am reacting to it as a threat.
There have several posts on DU wondering why people are not more gracious about attacks (which inevitably they think are constructive) on HRC, people under existential threat should not be expected to graciously deal with your hand wringing nonsense.
I support her, I want her to be president, i already think the media criticizes her way too much, and I don't want to deal with such nonsense on DU.
If the Clinton Foundation Closes, People Will Die
Due to the lack of adequate recognition of the breadth and success of the Clinton Foundations many HIV and AIDS initiatives, we at Gay Mens Health Crisis, the worlds first and leading AIDS service organization, felt it was time to speak up.
GMHC is not a partisan or political organization. We have one singular mission end the AIDS epidemic. To that end, GMHC has sought to raise public awareness of the epidemics continuing, harrowing impact and to press government officials to devote the resources needed to accomplish this goal.
We both condemned President Reagans failure to address the HIV crisis and praised President Bushs expansion of federal HIV treatment programs; we have criticized President Clintons HIV and AIDS strategy while in office and applauded President Obamas policy response to the epidemic. GMHC has a long history of speaking up when we have felt that our elected officials and public figures are not doing enough, and an equally long history of praising our leaders, nonprofits, and other organizations when they introduce initiatives or plans that bring us closer to finding a cure.
Thus it is crucial that we recognize the Clinton Foundations efforts toward eliminating HIV and AIDS around the world and acknowledge the dangers in discontinuing these initiatives.

Honestly, I detest every liberal and every person in the media who has demanded that the clinton's shut down the foundation.
Everyone I personally know who is voting for Jill Stein
Does not have a single right that may be taken away from them if the Supreme Court falls to Republicans or if the Republicans pursue the same sort of agenda as the last Republican administration.
Not a single one.
Must be nice.
And therein lies the reality of the Jill Stein voter.
I feel bad for people not caught up in the excitement of this historical nomination
and this amazing, optimistic, spirit-lifting, beautiful, diverse convention.
I really do.
I am not sure when it became the norm that in order to be considered a principled progressive one must always be in a state of cynicism and perpetual despondency, but i reject that brand of progressivism. I believe in grit and doing the most good and the least harm, and to me Hillary Clinton represents that.
I am so proud and happy to be part of the movement that gets our first highly qualified, competent, and incredibly empathetic female nominee.
And yes, it does matter that she is female. Allies are great, and both Bill and Obama have been great allies to women. However, actual representation will always matter, in terms of what policies get prioritized and what gets ignored.
I am so proud and excited to vote for her again.
PS: although, I will miss Obama sorely. He has been an amazing president.
Do you honestly think dws would step down so quickly
With so little struggle, if Hillary hadn't offered her a bullshit honorary position so she could save face?
There is no specific email that actually implicates her in some giant conspiracy and she agreed to be the sacrificial lamb, but nothing in life really come for free.
Anyway some of this rhetoric is dumb af. If you want someone to go away with minimal fuss you allow them to save face.
Black lives matter 10 point manifesto
http://politicsbreaking.com/black-lives-matter-just-delivered-10-point-manifesto-want/I was just reading somewhere on DU that it wasn't clear what the end goal of BLM was unlike other Civil Rights movements. I just wanted to post their manifesto, which seems abundantly clear and rational to me. Their goals are actionable and can both be implement and easily analyzed.
1. End "broken windows" policing, which aggressively polices minor crimes in an attempt to stop larger ones.
2. Use community oversight for misconduct rather than having the police department decide what consequences officers should face....
3. Make standards for reporting police use of deadly force.
4. Independently investigate and prosecute police misconduct.
5. Have the racial makeup of police departments reflect the communities they serve.
6. Require officers to wear body cameras.
7. Provide more training for police officers.
8. End for-profit policing practices.
9. End the police use of military equipment.
10. Implement police union contracts that hold officers accountable for misconduct.
Clear, actionable, and reasonable goals.
