DOSE OF JOE - Oct 1

Friends -- see below for today's Dose of Joe.

Yesterday, Jill and Joe Biden embarked on the “Build Back Better Express” train tour to travel across eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania— areas that went to Trump in 2016. Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden launched the tour in Cleveland, Ohio where he gave remarks on what’s at stake in this election, how Donald Trump has failed working families, and what Biden will do as President to rebuild the middle class. You can watch full remarks HERE.

Doug Emhoff will travel to Virginia during early voting. He will visit an early voting location in Henrico County with former Governor Terry McAuliffe and Virginia House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn, and then will attend a Jewish Americans for Biden meet and greet with Filler-Corn and other Virginians. Mr. Emhoff will then visit an Alexandria early voting location with Governor McAuliffe and Congressman Don Beyer (VA-08), and they will wrap up the day with a visit to La Cocina with Latino small business leaders.

Yesterday, the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) endorsed Joe Biden for President. And on Monday, former Montana Governor and Republican National Committee Chair Marc Racicot endorsed Biden as well. And Governor Marc Racicot endorsed Joe Biden during a Yellowstone Public Radio interview.

A new Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters has Biden leading Donald Trump nationally 51-42%. And a new YouGov poll has Biden leading nationally 50-42%.

Listen to What Trump 2016 Swing-State Voters Had to Say About the Debate

The Bulwark

On Wednesday night I checked back in with a focus group of female 2016 Trump voters in swing states that I’ve been tracking to get their reactions on the debate. And there’s no sugar-coating it: Whatever Donald Trump was trying to do last night backfired with this group spectacularly.

TX Voter: “Donald Trump was one of the most obnoxious and rude people in the universe. I have to hand it to Joe, he held his wits better than I thought he would. I guess my question is: Do I really have to vote? I don’t know but I want to, but it was discouraging. I don’t think either one won.

FL Voter: “That was the one thing that moved the barometer in the debate for me. I found that appalling. I still don’t know if I have a reason to vote for Biden, but that closed the door on voting for Trump. It really was appalling. It shut the door on me feeling like I could vote for him. I don’t feel like I have an option to go to from there. How he handled the issue of systemic racism and every question related to that was appalling.”

TX Voter: “I don’t know if I am going to stick with him. That was awful last night. I’m moving more towards the fence, I really am. It was despicable behavior, the way he attacked Joe’s sons, one of whom is dead, it was terrible.

Trump claims he won debate 'easily,' will continue debating Biden

Source: The Hill

President Trump insisted Wednesday that he prevailed in the first debate against Democratic nominee Joe Biden and said he wants to continue with the two remaining such events.

“I thought it was a great evening,” Trump told reporters at the White House before departing for a campaign trip to the battleground state of Minnesota. “I see the ratings were very high and it was good to be there, felt very comfortable. I appreciate all the good words.”

Trump later claimed that Biden does not want to move forward with the next two debates, despite the Biden campaign saying Tuesday that the former vice president would continue to debate Trump.

“I hear he doesn’t want to go forward, but that’s up to him. I mean, I would like to,” Trump told reporters. “By every measure, we won the debate easily last night. I think he was very weak, he looked weak, he was whining. Yeah, we won the debate by almost every poll that I saw.”

Biden prepares ad onslaught to overwhelm Trump

Source: The Hill

Former Vice President Joe Biden and his Democratic allies are preparing an advertising blitz that threatens to overwhelm President Trump in the closing weeks of the race for the White House, an onslaught of cash aimed at blowing up what Trump campaign officials once called their Death Star.

Biden’s campaign alone has reserved nearly a quarter billion dollars in advertising over the next five weeks in 18 swing states. Outside groups that support Biden have blocked off $112 million in their own airtime.

President Trump’s campaign, which spent heavily on advertising earlier in the year, is set to spend far less. So far, the campaign has reserved $130 million in airtime in 13 states, according to data provided by one Democrat and one Republican watching the advertising market.

Outside Republican groups have reserved $39 million in airtime. That figure is set to rise in the coming days after America First Action, a super PAC run by close Trump advisers, said Tuesday it would purchase $40 million in airtime, digital advertising and direct mail in five battleground states.

Trump's debate cleanup

Source: Axios

President Trump's advisers feel the president needs to outright condemn far-right extremists and white supremacy during his rally tonight in Minnesota.

...snip...

Before boarding Marine One this afternoon, Trump told reporters he doesn't know the group, but they should stand down and let law enforcement do its work.

One Trump aide said this is a start, but that the general consensus among those close to the president is that he still needs to outright condemn far-right extremists.

Trump’s advisers are also planning to encourage the president to interrupt Joe Biden less in the next two debates.

Biden smashes fundraising records during chaotic debate

Source: Politico

Joe Biden's campaign hauled in nearly $10 million during the first presidential debate Tuesday night — smashing its own single-hour fundraising record, as small-dollar donors continue to fuel the former vice president's mounting money advantage.

Biden's campaign raised $3.8 million during the 10 to 11 p.m. hour Tuesday night, as Biden and President Donald Trump clashed in a insult-laden debate. From 9 p.m. to midnight, the Biden campaign brought in nearly $10 million from 215,000 donors, including more than 60,000 new contributors to the campaign, according to a Biden campaign official. Nearly 100,000 signed up to volunteer for the Biden campaign during the debate, as well.

Tuesday night's fundraising totals come as Biden has outraised and outspent Trump, surpassing the president in cash by $141 million, according to Federal Elections Commission filings released earlier this month. In August, Biden raised a record-shattering $365 million, topping Trump's total by $154 million.

Neither campaign has released its September fundraising totals yet.
