Cohen Testimony Leaves Kim Jong Un Doubting Whether Trump Can Be Trusted

HANOI (The Borowitz Report)—The testimony of the former Trump lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, has left the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Un, concerned that Donald J. Trump “cannot be trusted,” sources close to Kim revealed on Wednesday.

Kim reportedly was glued to his television as Cohen’s testimony was beamed live to Hanoi, and his “jaw dropped” at the lawyer’s revelations about Trump’s mendacity and unethical business practices, according to the sources.

“Dear Leader became increasingly alarmed about the picture Cohen was painting of Trump,” one source said. “At one point, he turned to the rest of us and said, ‘What kind of lowlife am I dealing with?’ ”

According to the source, Kim was also disturbed by what he saw as the “stunningly disingenuous and unsavory” behavior by some of Cohen’s interrogators on the congressional panel.

“That Jim Jordan seems like a real dick,” Kim reportedly said.

Tesla finally launches $35,000 Model 3, and moves all sales online

Source: Marketwatch

Tesla Inc. may have made good on its long-standing promise to offer a Model 3 for $35,000, but its stock fell late Thursday as Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said the Silicon Valley car maker is likely to report a loss in the first quarter.

Tesla said Thursday its cheaper Model 3 version will have a shorter driving range and new interior options, and its website shows it available in the U.S. in as little as two weeks. After tax credits and gas savings, Tesla says the car costs about $24,450.

The lower price and the new online-only ordering system also announced Thursday “should substantially widen the Model 3’s appeal,” said Karl Brauer, an analyst with Kelley Blue Book.

“Tesla’s biggest challenge going forward will be meeting production volumes and demand while maintaining timely service for a rapidly-expanding customer fleet,” he said. “If Tesla can do this, it will have successfully transitioned from a boutique auto maker with a niche audience to a mainstream brand serving mainstream consumers.”

It's time to take John Wayne's name off the Orange County airport

Most people familiar with the life story of John Wayne are aware that the late movie star was a dyed-in-the-wool right-winger — after all, he was still making a movie glorifying America’s conduct of the Vietnam War (“The Green Berets,” 1968) well after the country had begun to get sick of the conflict.

But the resurrection of a 1971 interview Wayne gave to Playboy magazine has underscored the sheer crudeness of the actor’s feelings about gay people, black people, Native Americans, young people and liberals.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s impossible or immoral to enjoy Westerns and war movies starring John Wayne; that’s a personal choice. But it certainly undermines any justification for his name and image to adorn a civic facility.
I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility.

We’re talking about Orange County’s John Wayne Airport. It’s long past the time that Wayne’s name should come down.

It sure is damn time to take that name off the airport.

Medellin razes Pablo Escobar's home in symbol of rebirth

A six-floor apartment building in Medellin that Pablo Escobar once called home was demolished Friday in an emotional ceremony that officials hope will dampen some of the fervor for the notorious drug lord's criminal life and instead showcase the city's rebirth.

Rogelio Gomez, the engineer in charge of the demolition, said that 180 detonators were used to topple the Monaco building and a 100 meter (328 feet) security zone was designated around the area.

"1,500 people who live nearby were evacuated for security," he also said.

The explosion took place at 11:53 local time and sent a cloud of dust 10 meters (33 feet) into the air.

Stock Market Soars After Investors Decide That Would Be Fun Thing To Make Happen Today

NEW YORK—Attributing the gains this morning to them being “just kinda in the mood,” top Wall Street investors confirmed the U.S. stock market soared in early trading Friday after they decided it would be a fun thing to make happen.

“Often, you’ll see the S&P 500 rise because of a jobs report or international trade news, but other times it happens just because making the market go way up is what we felt like doing that day,” said veteran fund manager Jack Malcolm, who, like hundreds of his colleagues nationwide, reportedly woke up “feeling sorta blah” and chose to send all major U.S. indices climbing as a “nice little pick-me-up.”

“To be sure, the catalysts for strong market performance can be complex, and it’s not always easy to put your finger on the factors pushing growth. But this morning we made the Dow rise, like, hundreds of points for no particular reason beyond wanting to see a big spike go way up to the top of the chart. And it did! It looked pretty awesome.”

At press time, sources confirmed the entire global economy had entered a major recession after investors thought it would be cool to do that for a while.

Ex-Port Richey mayor held without bail; says he didn't mean to shoot at deputies

Former mayor Dale Massad remains held without bail despite arguments in court Friday that there’s no evidence he meant to shoot at deputies who raided his house to arrest him Thursday.

The ruling came during Massad's first appearance on charges including attempted homicide and practicing medicine without a license.

It followed an announcement from the state's chief financial officer that Massad is also under investigation now on suspicion of insurance fraud. And later that day, Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended him from the office of Port Richey mayor.

Massad, 68, was arrested at his home Thursday by agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement but not before he fired twice at deputies who came to assist, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Florida human trafficking: Billionaire equity firm owner John Childs wanted on prostitution charge

Source: TCPalm.com

Billionaire equity firm owner John Childs is one of several men accused of soliciting prostitution in connection with a Florida spa tied to an international human trafficking ring, police said Thursday.

Childs, who lives seasonally in Indian River Shores, is wanted on a solicitation of prostitution charge, according to a warrant for his arrest. He has not been arrested.

Childs owns J.W. Childs Associates, a private equity firm based in Massachusetts.

He's a prominent donor to several Republican politicians and groups, including former U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, Club for Growth and 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Another prominent Republican donor.

Rep. Duncan Hunter gets help with legal expenses from government contractors, others

Nine donors, including at least two who had already reached political contribution limits, gave $30,800 in the last quarter of 2018 to help pay for Rep. Duncan Hunter’s legal defense, a new financial report shows.

The Republican Congressman representing Alpine and his wife and former campaign manager, Margaret, faced criminal investigations into their alleged use of political money for personal purposes. The two were indicted in August and have pleaded not guilty to all 60 charges.

The special fund for Hunter’s legal expenses is administered by a trustee and is separate from his political campaign treasury, which has already paid at least $682,100 to lawyers since June 2016.

The quarterly financial report for Hunter’s legal expense fund was released to the San Diego Union-Tribune by the Washington, D.C.,-based Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). The report, which covers fundraising and spending from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, shows $30,800 in itemized contributions and no spending.

Trump faces legal issues for the rest of his presidency, no matter what Mueller finds

President Trump is likely to celebrate if the final report from special counsel Robert S. Mueller III echoes Trump’s relentless claims of “no collusion” with Russia — or least doesn’t outline a criminal conspiracy between his 2016 campaign and the Kremlin.

No matter what Mueller concludes, the president remains in considerable legal jeopardy.

The Russia probe spawned a web of federal, state and congressional inquiries into virtually every aspect of Trump’s career — the company that bears his name, the campaign that won him the White House, the inauguration that celebrated his improbable victory, and the administration that he currently leads from the Oval Office.

Prosecutors in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Washington and Virginia are all pulling at threads that the FBI started unraveling two years ago. Legal problems, and possibly further indictments of Trump’s friends and aides, are likely to shadow the president for the rest of his White House tenure.

Putin to U.S.: I'm ready for another Cuban Missile-style crisis if you want one

Source: Reuters

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is militarily ready for a Cuban Missile-style crisis if the United States wanted one and threatened to place hypersonic nuclear missiles on ships or submarines near U.S. territorial waters.

The Cuban Missile Crisis erupted in 1962 when Moscow responded to a U.S. missile deployment in Turkey by sending ballistic missiles to Cuba, sparking a standoff that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.

More than five decades on, tensions are rising again over Russian fears that the United States might deploy intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Europe, as a landmark Cold War-era arms-control treaty unravels.

Putin's comments, made to Russian media late on Wednesday, follow his warning that Moscow will match any U.S. move to deploy new missiles closer to Russia by stationing its own missiles closer to the United States or by deploying faster missiles or both.
