Biden heads to Florida to hit Trump on abortion rights

(NBC News) President Joe Biden is traveling to Florida on Tuesday to deliver remarks highlighting efforts by Democrats to safeguard abortion access and casting former President Donald Trump as a threat to reproductive rights. The trip to Tampa is intended to "forcefully advocate for reproductive freedom and call out Donald Trump’s abortion bans, as he’s been doing since Roe was overturned,” Biden campaign spokesperson Michael Tyler told reporters in a call previewing the president's travel plans.

AZ-SEN: Kari Lake Wants Arizona Sheriffs to Enforce 1864 Abortion Ban

(Rolling Stone) In the wake of a state Supreme Court decision re-animating the 1864 law that prohibits abortion at any point in pregnancy for any reason except to save the life of the mother, Lake initially issued a statement declaring it “abundantly clear that the pre-statehood law is out of step with Arizonans” views on abortion. She called on state officials “to come up with an immediate common sense solution.” Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) had already offered one. The state’s top law enforcement officer announced her office would not enforce the ban, which snaps back into effect in June. The law declares anyone who “provides, supplies, or administers” an abortion be punished with up to five years in jail. But, last weekend, Lake suggested county sheriffs should enforce the 1864 abortion ban: “We can have that law, but it’s not going to be enforced with the people we have in office,” Lake reportedly told the crowd at a Mohave County Republican Party event.

Bannon says House Republicans secretly want Trump to lose

(The Hill) Steve Bannon, former President Trump’s 2016 campaign executive, railed against House Republicans on Monday, claiming that they “want MAGA to go away” and wish to see the former president lose his 2024 White House bid. The conservative pundit tore into House Judiciary Committee chairman, Jim Jordan, arguing that the Ohio Republican’s support of Trump has been entirely “performative.” “Don’t go on ‘Hannity’ and tell me everything you are gonna do and send some tweets,” Bannon quipped. “Nothing’s happening to support President Trump. Let me repeat that. Nothing,” he concluded.

Some migrants flown by DeSantis to Martha’s Vineyard qualify for victim visas, feds say

(Miami Herald) Some of the 49 migrants flown to Martha’s Vineyard by the state of Florida are now able to legally work in the United States and have temporary protections from deportation — because they are considered victims of a potential crime, their attorney says. The migrants are eligible for these protections because they applied for a special kind of visa meant for crime victims who are helping law enforcement, after they said they were tricked into taking charter flights from San Antonio to Massachusetts with false promises of jobs and other aid, said Rachel Self, an attorney for the migrants.

Republicans aren't protecting elections. They don't want democracy.

(LA Times) The next time Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) stands in front of a microphone to talk about election integrity, I want you to remember this: Nearly a third of voters in Louisiana are Black, and yet Black voters had control over less than 20% of the state’s congressional districts. White voters make up less than 60% of the electorate yet had control over more than 80% of the power. When the Democratic governor vetoed attempts to suppress the Black vote, the Republican state Legislature overrode the veto. When a federal judge said another map should be drawn, the Supreme Court delayed action until it had decided a similar question about Alabama.
