Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - 5/31/24

I apologize that there are so few "official" videos available, this practice by HBO appears to have started last month. If any are uploaded in the meantime, I'll definitely add them. But I wanted to share what's available before the "bootleg" videos are gone.

Monologue: A Jolly Good Felon

Bill Maher reacts to Donald Trump's conviction in his hush money/election interference trial.

New Rule: Gender Apartheid

In many countries, one category of human beings don’t even have the right to show their face – that’s apartheid, and it should be the social justice issue of our time.

Overtime: John Waters, David Axelrod, Ken Buck

Bill and his guests continue their conversation after the show.

Here's a "bootleg" version of the show which includes the entire interview with John Waters, writer, actor, and filmmaker of the 1990 classic musical film, Cry-Baby (4:28); entire panel discussion with David Axelrod, former senior advisor to President Obama, CNN political contributor, and host of the podcast The Axe Files with David Axelrod; and Ken Buck, former Republican Congressman from Colorado (16:22); Bill's "funny bit" (30:21); and the opening part of New Rules (44:25). It won't last long, as usual:

2. Agreed! Considering the seriousness of this week's issues, it was a pretty funny show.

And I was interested in seeing Ken Buck since he was my cousin's Rep. before he decided to retire. My cousin (who is "one of us" ) was understandably upset since she heard the news that Boebert had decided to run in my cousin's district instead - yikes!

3. I have to agree, the babbling wingnut must've canceled

due to deep mourning over the Lard and Savior's multiple convictions.

I do wish Maherhad brought up Hillary Clinton while Axelrod was mandering on about Bragg starting with the guilty party and then looking for the crime, which is not what happened, by the way. That's what they did to Clinton.

Still Axelrod is decent enough, he's just wrong. Some people will always be wrong but if they're decent, we can cope. After all, we're likely wrong some of the time, too. I know I am.

It was a much better show without a wingnut trying to Gish gallop over all the other guests. He needs to try that more often.

5. That was my favorite part, too! This is something that Bill Maher has brought up before, glad he addressed it again today

7. The only segment I've seen yet, will get around to watching the rest of his show soon.

But I have to say he absolutely NAILED it with the Gender Apartheid segment. What is there to disagree with?

"Kids, if you really want to change the world and not just tie up Monday morning traffic, this is the apartheid that
desperately needs your attention. Gender apartheid is what should be the social justice issue of your time.

How about from the river to the Sea, Every Woman Shall be Free." (that which immediately follows this I also agree with). Thanks for posting!

8. Awww! You're more than welcome! And guest John Waters brought some humor to this bizarre week

And I certainly agree with his major New Rules segment, though I can also agree with protesting any war resulting in the deaths of thousands no matter where they are. And this reminds me of something I saw either last summer or the year before. I live just south of Lake George, New York, a definite tourist mecca, regularly see license plates from every state in the union when I'm out and about.

And one time I was driving through the heart of Lake George Village and couldn't help notice a couple of women standing on the street corner dressed in those black body and face covering outfits that Bill was talking about. And I couldn't help wondering what they were doing there - or what they could do. Swimming? Boat rides? Rides, like the nearby amusement park or water park? Souvenirs, like the tee shirts that are sold everywhere? Pizza? Seeing these women obviously stuck in my mind and what Bill had to say obviously applied to them.

love listening to him.

Guess panelists are booked in advance. Would have been great to have a bipartisan legal guest to discuss the 34 felonies and aftermath in detail, not Ken Buck spewing the usual Republican B.S. Fortunately, Axelrod could provide some political insight.

Maher's New Rules commentary was spot on.

Thanks for posting, Rhiannon12866!
