Joe BidenCongratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!

Fri Apr 26, 2019, 03:19 PM

Please stop trying to make Joe Biden a PHONY!

Context is everything. Joe apologized as he thought best. There is no perfect apology for anyone.

It's a matter of the heart and soul with Joe. I believe he is sincere. I believe he cares. I don't believe any of this about Trump.

I am a black woman. Believe me, no matter what happens in the primaries, if Joe is left standing and it's between him and Trump, there is no question I am voting for Biden. I am not sitting it out. I am not voting third party. I am not voting write-in. I am voting for whomever the Democrats select as their nominee. It's just too important not to.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

2. This black woman agrees!

If it's between dolt45 and VP Biden, the choice is clear. Joe is many things. A true blue democrat, an ally to many communities, a team player, and is actually qualified for the job. Further more, I also believe he is genuinely a good person.

4. You're right of course

No real Democrat could vote for MF45. Sill the most loyal part of the Democratic party has been women of color. Shouldn't we nominate a younger women of color? No more old white dudes for President.

Although I haven't made up my mind yet, I'm leaning towards Kamala.

7. I understand his apology.

He is genuinely sorry for being part of an unfair process that caused Anita Hill terrible pain. He has said this. But he also said he was given a job he had to do, he did it as best he could, he believed her, he believes she got a terrible deal, he supports her, he believes she is an important figure in history for her courage and all she has accomplished. He voted against Thomas.

But he isn’t going to claim he’s a terrible person who is or was morally bankrupt and he’s not going to flagellate himself to satisfy those who want that. I’m really sorry about that whole miserable event too, but I think he’s got a conscience and wanting his destruction destroys an ally.

9. The problem is he LED the unfair process. He had control that he's not acknowledging.

It was in his power to not call the witness who claimed she had erotomania. And it was in his power to call her corroborating witnesses to testify -- but instead, he called an end to the hearings.

Anita says she doesn't believe he apologized, because he's STILL not taking responsibility for his part in what happened to her. And she's right. He's trying to shift the blame.

He was in charge, and he blew it.

18. They didn't "want" to testify. Who would "want" to testify? But they were WILLING to testify

and they expected to testify, and they were sitting in a hotel room, waiting to be called to testify.

And not just one witness -- multiple witnesses. In addition to Hardnett and Wright, there were two women who Wright had confided in at the time she was being harassed.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/clarence-thomas-accuser-sukari-hardnett-hopes-biden-learned-from-his-mistake?ref=home

“As human beings, we all make mistakes,” Sukari Hardnett, who in 1991 submitted a sworn affidavit to the Senate Judiciary Committee testifying that she had been subject to Thomas’ “unpleasant” attention, told The Daily Beast. “But what’s critical is that we learn from those mistakes.”

SNIP

In 1991, Hardnett was prepared to testify in support of Professor Anita Hill, who like Hardnett was a former employee of Thomas’ during his time as chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Hill, whose tenure at the EEOC did not overlap with Hardnett’s, had accused Thomas of sexual harassment, including detailing “acts he had seen in pornographic films,” and graphically telling Hill about “his own sexual prowess.”

Biden, then chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, oversaw the confirmation hearings, which were marked by befuddlement over the issue of workplace sexual misconduct by the all-male committee members, as well as sexist attacks against Hill from Republican senators who accused her of “flat-out perjury” and suggested that her testimony was the “product of fantasy” derived from the film The Exorcist.

Hardnett, of course, wasn’t there. Biden had blocked her and Angela Wright, another woman who accused Thomas of sexual harassment, from testifying before the committee in support of Hill. Biden’s decision was a symptom of the time, Hardnett allowed, but wrong nonetheless.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1994/10/09/the-other-woman/ca495db5-5a09-4397-8620-fd443751c8e2/?utm_term=.872abccb40b6

She did not testify because she was not called to testify. Contrary to their public statements, no one in power really wanted her to testify. That is what Angela Wright recalls.

AND FROM WRIGHT’S ATTORNEY (same link):

"If anybody told you she wanted out," he says, "they weren't sitting there with Angela Wright like I was for three days." He says there was "absolutely, positively" no talk of prime-time testimony. He says she never asked for the subpoena to be lifted.

Biden said he understood that Anita Hill's supporters also wanted Wright's subpoena lifted because they feared she would undercut Hill's stellar performance.

But one of Hill's lawyers, Charles Ogletree, says he doesn't know who those supporters could be, and if the implication is that any of Hill's team didn't want Wright called, that is "absolutely, unequivocally, categorically and positively false." He adds that whatever "backdoor maneuver" might have been used to shut out Angela Wright's "highly relevant" testimony was "shameful."

He's never said that. He''s only blamed other people and made it sound like he was a passive spectator in what happened to her.

He was the head of the Committee, the Democrats had a majority, and he was responsible for everything that happened to her.

36. I don't think she'd say that, but I think it would satisfy most people like me,

who think he STILL doesn't get it and still hasn't accepted responsibility.

Why should we trust him to handle future situations correctly if he doesn't see his part in what went wrong in those hearings? I'm not expecting anyone to be perfect. But you can't learn from your mistakes if you can't acknowledge them. He seems to be saying now that there wasn't anything he could do -- that other people somehow did these things, and he wasn't involved. But he was IN CHARGE. Is that how he would excuse mistakes as President? If so, he doesn't deserve the office.

We need a buck-stops-here President, not a passive excuse-maker.

42. i cant find the vid, but carol mosely braun was on morning joke,

the day he announced.
she gave a glowing endorsement.
when it came to anita hill, this is what she said, paraphrased-
after those hearings, he came to me, and said he would support me if i promised to sit on judiciary if i won. he did and i did.
he also convinced difi to join the committee, when she was elected in that 'year of the woman' that the hearings inspired.
she said that he had had a goal of women on the committee, but that the few who were in the senate at the time had turned him down. so he helped a couple get elected, and got them on the committee.

so, he came out of it realizing that the all male committee was a problem, that a mostly male senate was a problem. he reached out, and did the work, to try to make it better.
and succeeded.

to me this is more important than whether he says any particular bunch of words.

I say that people shouldn't whine when a candidate gets vetted if what is said is true. YOU may have accepted Biden's apology, but it wasn't YOU who was involved. And apparently Anita didn't. Which person do you think has more standing in this case, YOU or the woman who was actually involved? Just asking.

Such as “the senator from MBNA,” Anita Hill hearing, etc. Regardless, I hope that for all of us, we can rally around the nominee and help turn out the VOTE. ANY of them would be a life-saving breath of fresh air.
PS Congress needs to protect our voting systems badly, but I see nothing in that regard. Very troubling.

But in the meantime - I would like to see the differences discussed.

I think the Anita Hill problem of Biden's is significant - him being the one that ran that show - the hearings. I think he is too old school and doesn't get it. Actually, I think the same of any (white) man over the age of 50-55 (at least the white male candidates running). I think they have too much baggage related to being clueless about women - assumed male power over women. Etc.
