Democratic Primaries

Although I support Sanders in the primary, given that multiple candidates for the Democratic nomination support Medicare For All, including sharing the podium with Sanders during the announcement of the latest round of the Senate bill, this post is broad advocacy for single-payer healthcare, not a candidate.
In fact, in terms of expressing it on the campaign trail, I feel that Senator Harris verbalizes the issue best. Paraphrasing, private insurance doesn't work.

The out-of-pocket expense of mammograms, MRIs and other tests and treatments can be several thousand dollars each year when you have a high-deductible health policy.

(9,497 posts)if you are self employed in this very Blue State of Washington. My landlord/roommate owns her flooring business so she makes so money but less than $80,000. Her insurance shot up to a premium of 500 (or more, not remembering exact amount but know it was over 500) a month and a 7500 dollar deductible. That I do remember, because to get any benefit you had to actually be pretty injured or ill.
I stay at a dead end job because my benefits are great. 150 a month for medical, dental and vision with a 600 deductible but with routine checkups and chiro exempt from deductible.

(638 posts)It needs to become free at the point of service. I have thought recently how much more affordable it would be to live in Canada instead of the U.S. when I went there on a trip a few weeks ago. It is unsustainable and some form of universal healthcare system has to be priority one of the next Democratic President.
