Paradigm shift
I think I am experiencing some fundamental paradigm shift. I never thought Id support Sanders but somehow I feel that I should. So many things have changes in the last two years but he has been consistent and uncompromising and precise. I am so longing for unity and not divisive primary. I feel somewhat guilty in front of some of my friends who were Bernie supporters and annoyed me to no end in 2016 with their endless rants against Clinton. It is becoming so obvious that Sanders will win the nomination that I just want to get behind the movement because I agree with most positions. I mean it is extreme to have private health insurance companies for essential medical services not mainstream, they must be outlawed and there is no middle ground. This is a litmus test. If a new recession is coming and people start losing private health insurance coverage, it will become even more obvious that Medicare for All is the only sustainable solution and it does require rendering most private health insurance companies illegal. Lets be honest: most people HATE private health insurance companies.

(6,134 posts)being independent himself under D moniker. Harris wont get any of that, IMO. Biden maybe. But Biden has no policiy differnces with Clinton so I dont see him winning against trump. Indepenent voters care only about policies and not character as many of them apolicitical. They will decide the outcome of the election. So far, Sanders is leading the independent vote.

(108,632 posts)think of themselves as socialists or even "Democratic socialists." It's too bad Bernie has chosen that misleading "brand."
Hillary didn't lose against Trump because she wasn't progressive enough. She lost because of the Comey/Weiner letter; and Russian interference; and the suppression of millions of votes. After Obama's re-election in 2012, the Supreme Court dismantled the 1965 voting rights act, which caused the loss of millions of Democratic votes in key states, including in places like Michigan and Wisconsin.

(13,909 posts)I dont believe thats true. Independent voters are all over the map in terms of what they want. Some are very right wing, some are very left. Many are those that say theyll vote for the person rather than the party meaning theyll vote for personality rather than policy.

(2,331 posts)My father, good rest his soul, claimed to be an independent and registered as one while voting for every republican that ever ran for office. I know independents that do the same for democrats. I believe a majority of independents have a strong predisposition.

(3,259 posts)And even less about the nuances of independent voters. Parts of you post here are blatantly wrong. Other parts show you dont comprehend the topics you are discussing. Not trying to be rude. That was painful to read on face value.
No problem with you supporting Sanders. You should probably ask yourself why you are going as far as to completely make things up in order to justify your support.

primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
its just that Sanders has MUCH bigger following than any of the above, not to mention name recognition. Brown is the only viable competition here.

(4,558 posts)I'll continue to support ANY real Democrat, but never BS. there isn't a circumstance that is possible where I will change my position.
The DNC may consider him viable for running as a Democratic Party Member and spoiler yet again.
this website may consider him protected as a temporary Democratic party member/candidate yet again.
I will NEVER accept this man as a Democratic Party member or Candidate, and will always support anyone who is on the opposite side of him in races.
this site may be able to shut those who feel like I do up when we attempt to explain our complete and utter disdain for that.. person, but he is NOT a unifier at all.
I am NOT alone in feeling this way.

(15,502 posts)He refuses to countenance any of the regulations brought into play by the ACA and acts like it never happened. When was the last time you heard him promised to protect it? Medicare for all is a lousy idea based on the current Medicare system which is surprise, an insurance program like the ACA. But we already have the ACA so Medicare for All is not only a pale shadow of an in-place system but does damage by reducing support for it. So no, his ideas are not very good, and by my lights they are pernicious and destructive of hard-won Democratic gains.

(28,270 posts)The cheapest plan I could get would have cost me over 700 dollars a month with a 7000 dollar annual deductible.
This was the bronze plan, costs went up from there and they were already out of reach with the lowest cost plan.
So then I became an outlaw of sorts for the crime of not being able to afford health insurance under the ACA and got fined by the IRS.
As of today I got some shitty insurance through work that basically keeps me from getting fined by the IRS and does little more. If I live long enough I'll get Medicare in a few years, then I'll have some actual health insurance that I can use.
The ACA has been nothing but a disaster for me and my family and I support Medicare for all 1000%!
I mean why do you think 70% of Americans support Medicare for all? Because they are happy with the ACA??
