for her. She was the one at the DNC when Hillary was already our nominee who told those who were booing and whatever that they were being "ridiculous".

And, as far as they're still being a "primary".. she needs to stop whining and take a cue from Larry David..

"It's no time to fool around here".. Larry David.

3. Harris did not call Biden racist, the opposite. Specifically said he was not racist. Words matter

And I am so damn tired of people that refuse to accept that and gaslights another.

Harris, legitimately was calling out previous Biden stance as she perfectly had that right to do. As Warren did on other issues. Biden addressed them. Further, it gave Biden the opportunity to show how he had progressed from 40 and 30 years ago.

Facts matter. Words matter, we have responsibilities when saying someone said....

7. re: "Specifically said he was not racist."

Rhetoric 101: "I don't believe you're a racist, but..." means you're about to imply he's a racist.

Whether that was her intent or not, it is not unreasonable for someone to read it that way. Yes, words matter, but sometimes they can indeed mean the opposite of what they appear to mean.

assigning emotion and feelings that I cannot do to another. It is not something as simple as, no right or wrong and assigning feeling/intent is as valid as not.

18. No, I am not assigning feeling/intent. Rather...

...I am merely saying that, due to the vagueries of language, I cannot be 100% sure what she meant. One can legitimately hear those same words with different meanings. So it's not that I am assigning something you are not, but instead you are sure of something that I believe we have no way to be sure of.

Political rhetoric is tricky... it is designed to be manipulative. She could have been sincere in saying she didn't believe he was a racist, yet might still have wanted to place that doubt in the minds of some portion of the electorate, since that would play to her political advantage. That is, it's not only a question whether she believes A or not-A, but also, regardless of what she believes, what she wants some other people to believe, or at least to consider as a possibility. There's no doubt that attack was pre-planned and not spur of the moment, which also means almost certainly that great care was put into the exact wording she would use.... and she did choose wording that is a classic example of a way to accuse someone of something without the accountability of having accused them of something.

19. You absolutely are. She says she is NOT saying he is racist. BUT, because she wants to have further

conversation, you say she was in all intent and purpose, due to grammatical assumption, she was saying he is racist. Now.... I used BUT and I was not dismissing the fact that she said Biden is NOT a racist.

You are assigning intent, and I think that is dishonest at best.

All her time and history and relationship today would suggest that in fact she does NOT think Biden is a racist, backing her statement right out of the box, she does NOT think Biden is a racist.

20. re: "you say she was in all intent and purpose" NO. NO. NO. I said it was *POSSIBLE*.

My whole point was to explain why I wouldn't dismiss people who see it the other way, because I can see both ways... and I think it is presumptuous for ANYONE to be certain that their interpretation is Right and someone else's is Wrong, when the use of the language can support either perspective.

That's why I never said "I think she meant..." such and such. Instead, I said, "it is not unreasonable for someone to read it that way" and "it is about the ambiguity of communicating in English" and made the case for how one can easily view it the opposite way that you do.

I take no issue with your interpretation at all. What I was saying is that I disagreed with your characterization that anyone who thinks otherwise is gaslighting, etc., because I think the alternate interpretation is also defensible.

It was a nasty ill judged comment, by Harris, in an ill judged campaign. It's that lack of judgement, that I think Joe should be wary of making her his VP pick.

25. Harris was tipping toeing like women have learned a lifetime to do with men and blacks

have learned to do with white. Just like everyone has to do with a drunk.

She wanted a conversation about four decades ago and she had to stroke ego, before having that conversation. And even that was not good enough.

She could have just gone into the conversation and you would have heard. Are you calling him a racist. So, she says ahead of time, like we all know to do to put out our voice; no, he is not a racist.

No he is not a woman hater, misogynist, sexist

We are trained.... to do that. Then when Harris does it to make whites feel better you all yell not good enough. Just... Not good enough.

So basically what you are telling all us is to keep our mouth shut. Sit down. Be quiet.

And that is not good enough.

did a Joe a favor indirectly by calling him out on his stories where he seemed to fondly remember working with segregationists who "called him son and black men boy."

He has long since stopped reminiscing about those times, which is good as there may never have been such a good SC primary for him. Now let's forget all that and Silverman (is that really her in blackface—if it is, talk about being a racist) and get on with beating trump's inept, racist ass.

And she did not jump on the Jill Stein train.

Supporting Medicare for all right now does not feel remotely pathetic to me.

I also respect Kamala Harris; she is one of my Senators and so far a good one. Yet, she did claim Joe Biden opposed busing in the debates. She would be a fine pick for VP.

Nonetheless, circular firing squads are circular. So, you disagree on VP picks. So what? Perhaps we should save "pathetic" for GOP actions right now that are resulting in tragic pathos right under our noses?

13. Sarah, I appreciate the attempt at comparing 2 viewpoints.

Last edited Sun Apr 5, 2020, 06:19 PM - Edit history (3)

But, to sum up, its time to take your hands off the keyboard for a while.

1. The actions of Kamala Harris do not deserve the criticism of your post.

2. We all know what a primary season is. There has not been a contested Democratic convention since 1952.

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/03/a-contested-democratic-convention-could-happen-in-2020.html

2a. Therefore, the primary seasons are largely over NEARLY ALL THE TIME. Some votes count more than others in primary season as well as in the main presidential election.

2b. Therefore, do not act surprised when your presumed candidate of preference is not the presumed nominee. HALF or MORE OF US did not have Biden has our first choice.

3. Society is changing because of Trump and corona and the combination thereof, the voters are changing and finally, so are the politicians. So, we all keep lobbying for this and that.

3a. Don't imply that your lobbying for your position is being stifled. I presume the ACA vs improvements is your leading issue.

4. One more thing. Blackface. Not recommended as satire. Satire has a way of going wrong. Blackface in recent years has always gone wrong once the image goes widely known. (Stephen Colbert gave up the satire of The Colbert Report. His current show is The Late Show, formerly hosted by David Letterman.). Irony can work far more often than satire. Your adrenalin was your own enemy.

With your experience, you should have known better in each point.

35. Wiki on Sister Sarah

During the 2016 election, she became increasingly politically active. In 2015, Silverman endorsed Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders for President of the United States, saying: "He says what he means & he means what he says & he's not for sale." She had previously introduced Sanders at a rally in Los Angeles, California that drew an audience of over 27,500 people.

She initially supported Sanders and, following the Democratic nomination, later spoke in support of Hillary Clinton at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. In her convention speech, she urged other Sanders supporters to back Clinton and, later, amid some boos from some Sanders supporters, said: "Can I just say? To the 'Bernie or Bust' people, you're being ridiculous". The Washington Post and Politico called this one of the most memorable moments of the night. The New York Times called her speech "the perfect breath of fresh air". Michael Grunwald of Politico coined the term "Silverman Democrats" for Sanders supporters who followed Silverman's advice to support Clinton in the presidential election.

This gal strikes me as either bipolar or schizophrenic.

Do Comedians Possess Bipolar Traits?

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/humor-sapiens/201407/do-comedians-possess-bipolar-traits

The study supports the notion that comedians, like other creative people, are high on psychosis traits. The high scores of comedians in all psychotic traits do not mean that comedians (or actors) are psychotic or have mental problems. This is just a survey and not a clinical diagnosis. However, the results might suggest that psychotic characteristics are the basis of stand-up comedy, or that people who pursue comedy as a career (remember, most of the subjects in this study were amateurs) have some characteristics of people suffering from schizophrenia or mania. What is perhaps surprising is the very high scores comedians achieved on these scales compared to other creative people.

The authors interpret the results as showing a strong tendency toward being bipolar. On one hand, the comedians scored high on antisocial and depressive traits, but on the other hand, they scored high on the manic trait, which if true, does characterize people suffering from bipolar. It is important to note that the traits described “represent healthy equivalents of cognitive and temperamental variations which, in pathological form, predispose to and mediate the symptoms of psychotic illness” as the authors put it.
