Bernie chose Joe Rogan and Cenk

Rather than attempting any reach out to moderate voters who voted for Obama or Hillary, Bernie chose to try to appeal to people who listen to Joe Rogan and Cenk. Now he's really trying to hug Obama. I think voters will see how disingenuous this is.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

embraced by Sanders (I) Vermont.

What supports of Sanders (I) Vermont fail to understand is that as long as Sanders (I) Vermont continues to identify in the Senate as an (I) rather than a (D) then he is making the biggest daily "Fuck em" in the history of Presidential politics. Wants to take over the party but Sanders (I) Vermont won't make the smallest consideration for part solidarity.

Just saw Sanders (I) on TV saying that he would have won Super Tuesday if there was a bigger under 30 turnout (which ironically undercuts his claim that he is driving turnout).

Perhaps you should call Sanders (I) and tell him that he should stop denigrating Democrats with a general "Fuck em" message.

If Strom Thurmond and other sitting Senators were able to change party designation then it is a factors that Sanders (I) could have changed but preferred the "fuck em" message to Party leadership, long term Democratic voters and party solidarity.

Hell, they're not even turning out for Sanders now!

If they share Democratic values and value what we value, they will find their way into the party -- they don't need to be "brought in." The only people that are being "brought in" that would otherwise not already join are those disruptive, divisive types that have only sown discord among Democrats for the past few years.

They can stay out. They are not needed. Biden is reassembling a rejuvenated Obama coalition along with the suburban voters that led us to an overwhelming victory in the 2018 midterms. They are who will lead us to victory in November -- not those temporary Democrats that trash us more than they do Trump and the Republicans.

There's really no denying the fact that nominating Biden is trying the same thing as 2016 and expecting different results. A centrist with a stellar resume.

Now, maybe we willl get different results, I hope we do. But Biden voters in the primary consistently say their main objective is defeating Trump. If that's true, they should turn out to vote against Trump in any case.

Bernie does better with young voters, with independents, and with voters who decided based on policy rather than electability. And whether or not Bernie is the nominee, we definitely want those people to turn out. And they are less reliable than the "just get rid of Trump" voters. Which is why, at some point, it would probably be a good idea to stop calling them Bernie Bros and cultists, and instead of telling Joe Rogan and his millions of listeners to go fuck themselves, maybe give them a reason to vote for Dems.

Because if you're wrong, and Trump wins again, I'm afraid that 2024 will be too late to learn the lesson that "safe" centrists like we ran in 2000, 2004, and 2016 is not actually a "safe" strategy. If we lose, the court will be 6-3 or even 7-2, and the rest of the judiciary will be full of crazy right-wing teenagers. And Trump will become even more unhinged since he doesn't have to face another election.

There are things that are different than in 2016 for sure, and the primary turnout is indeed encouraging. I hope all that, and people having witnessed how bad Trump actually is, is enough.

Thu Mar 5, 2020, 11:28 AM
Mar 2020

One of the things that killed us in 2016 was the Black voters who showed up in 2008 and 2012 for Obama but did not show up for Hillary in 2016. However, this year, Black voters seem to see Biden as Obama continued. This is why they are showing up for Biden--because Biden did everything he could for eight years to see that Obama's initiatives were passed. No person on this planet worked harder to help Barack Obama's Presidency than Joe Biden. Black people know this, and Super Tuesday showed us that they know this.

Someone posted a video, yesterday I think, with Joy Reid of MSNBC talking about how, when Joe Biden was in the church where the Civil Rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge started, that this was Joe Biden's church. They treated Joe Biden like he was Barack in that church because he represented Barack to them. Joy Reid was in that church when Joe Biden was there, and she said when she saw how Joe Biden was treated there, she knew that he would sweep the South. All of the major Democratic candidates were there in Selma that day except Bernie Sanders--who for some reason did not show up.

Joe Biden would have walked through fire for Barack Obama. Obama knows it, Jim Clyburn knows it, and practically every Black person in America knows it. This is why we are going to beat Trump in November, because for decades as a U.S. Senator, Joe Biden worked to help the 21% of the population of Delaware that is Black, and for eight years he worked to help Barack Obama. Joe Biden will make sure that Black Americans show up in November because to them, Joe Biden is not some promise that may or may not come true. To them, Joe Biden is the guy, year after year, who has fought for Black America.

Finally, for Joe Biden, the single most important part of his campaign since it began has been built around three words: "Black Votes Matter". This is why the pundits for months called South Carolina "Joe Biden's Firewall". It was the hill that Joe Biden would live or die on. It was the hill that he spent his entire lifetime getting ready for.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

If the tent is big enough for Jennifer Rubin, I don't see why it shouldn't be big enough for Joe Rogan. After all Joe Rogan is far more influential. And he's not a right-winger like Rubin, he's basically non-ideological.

There's nothing saying Rogan is even going to vote for Bernie. I kinda think, maybe, I might possibly vote for Bernie. Probably. Yeah, solid endorsement there.

He's just screwing with people, which is kind of his thing. Some see through it. Some don't.

There is no way for you to know if it is or isn't disingenuous unless you were his best friend from high school and talk to him every day.

Bernie was on with Rachel last night so does that qualify as reaching out to moderate voters?

And don't you think it would be useful to get voters from every possible niche?

65. He'd need to reach out to liberals/progressives, too
Thu Mar 5, 2020, 12:47 PM

I'm not a moderate by any stretch of the imagination, despite having voted for moderates any number of times because I thought they were the best choice at that time to further goals that were important to me.

I voted for him in 2016. But the stuff that went on after that, particularly at the convention, really put me off. I'm still not over it, to be honest. The bully stuff then and now, the my way or the highway, us against them...nah. I don't care how liberal or progressive someone is -- if that's their go-to for dealing with people who disagree, I'm gonna be a nope.

On most things, I'm not much swayed by endorsements or spokesmodels or whatever. But when it comes to Democratic politics, John Lewis is a bellwether for me. He's practically a deity where I live. Although Biden is my third choice, the fact that John Lewis supports him makes me even more certain that voting for him is the right choice.

If Sanders wins the nomination this time, I'll vote for him, no question, but I hope he realizes he's got more than moderates and conservatives to make comfortable with his candidacy.
