Soooper genius...
[blockquoteDozens of interviews with Democratic establishment leaders this week show that they are not just worried about Mr. Sanderss candidacy, but are also willing to risk intraparty damage to stop his nomination at the national convention in July if they get the chance. Since Mr. Sanderss victory in Nevadas caucuses on Saturday, The Times has interviewed 93 party officials all of them superdelegates, who could have a say on the nominee at the convention and found overwhelming opposition to handing the Vermont senator the nomination if he arrived with the most delegates but fell short of a majority.

(42,681 posts)that citizenship requires. Democracy is more than the collection of individual self-interests. It's the common good, the social goals, the laws that protect our civil rights. So if that's all the young expect, is to be pampered with the brilliance of their own self centeredness, then they are summer soldiers who cannot and do not believe in democracy.

(11,605 posts)Are you actually saying that young people's votes should matter less because you don't think they share your values? That wanting their votes to count = "expecting to be pampered with the brilliance of their own self centeredness"? Why the hell should any of them voter for our nominee in November if that's the party's attitude?

The party has stood proud with its 2018 House majority. They stand for the Constitution, the Rule of Law, and they will find a way to recommit to democratic government when they again are voted into power.

(8,049 posts)are so rabid and loyal this time around? It's because they feel he was screwed last time. It's a sort of Trump-effect--the more supporters believe the powers-that-be are against your guy, the tighter they cling to him. It's going to be trouble.

(1,474 posts)I agree that the convention delegates should make decisions based upon a variety of factors. I don't think that a person with a plurality automatically should be anointed.

A divisive article designed to inspire the fear that the health insurance lobby wants us to feel about M4A.
So, why would the Sulzberger family and Carlos Slim take this position? Or do they leave the editorial positions to their editorial staff?

(16,685 posts)is handing the ultimate grievance on a silver platter to those who insist the DNC screwed Bernie last time. There's no way to overstate how much damage this will do.
Pelosi, Schumer, and even Hillary Clinton recently making noises that they would support Sanders if he was the nominee? that's the right thing to do...it at least provides some cover that the will of a very large number of voters will be respected... even if it's not stated in good faith.
Outright saying you're going to ensure that you'll keep him from the nomination? That's utter madness. You can rationalize it by saying "those are the rules" over and over and over again. It's not going to fly with many, many people and you're dropping a bomb on the primary.
