Inside Bernie's relationship with Chuck and Nancy

The insurgent-turned-frontrunner will need the Democratic leaders if he's going to win the White House and then get his agenda enacted.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/27/bernie-sanders-schumer-pelosi-chuck-nancy-117758?fbclid=IwAR10i6eeO1W3ahlSXjdlkR49tRXLOw3oTHnSKttOLcr-nTjmIk4UX220G5s

Sanders has known both Schumer and Speaker Nancy Pelosi for decades ó relationships that will become pivotal if Sanders wins the Democratic nomination and the party is fractured. And if Democrats do win the White House and control of Congress, their ability to work together will be crucial.

The resistance to Sandersí support for the "Green New Deal" and "Medicare for All" suggests major friction ahead in the campaign and on Capitol Hill. But thereís also little animosity and a feeling of mutual respect between Sanders and the leaders, according to interviews with a dozen Democrats on Capitol Hill this week.

Faiz Shakir, Sandersí campaign manager and a former aide to both Reid and Pelosi, said party leaders should prepare for a President Sanders to ďassume the responsibility for setting the agenda, creating the mandate for change, and pushing Congress to act.

ďSen. Sanders has respect for the burden of leadership that Schumer and Pelosi carry, but he also believes the party can and will need to act far more boldly for working-class issues in the years ahead,Ē Shakir said.

1. Amazing isn't it?

Who would have thought taking care of the working class and poor would be so radical.

9. I don't think it's been strange at all.

There's always been a divide between the two parties. Now it's between the "it has to stay the same for the comfortable and no, I'm not settling for crumbs anymore"

It's been simmering for some time now.

32. If you are a Democrat, you would know that Democrats have been fighting for those people all along.

Shame on anyone that considers themselves "we Democrats" to insult the party and its members by insinuating that "Sanders alone!" has been pushing for universal healthcare, raising the minimum wage, etc. What a crock of shit.

35. You Sanders supporters imply it every time you say things like...

Ö"I will never understand how fighting for the working class and the poor makes one a rebel or a revolutionary."

That isn't what makes him a "rebel or a revolutionary" -- ALL of our candidates are fighting for that. Trying to belittle other candidates by implying they are not also fighting for universal healthcare, a raise in the minimum wage, etc. is shameful.

PS - If you have to ask yourself that question, maybe you should ask Sanders given that he is the one running around preaching "revolution this, revolution that" and created his own dark money organization named "Our Revolution," for god's sake.

36. Imply? How very judgmental of you. Try to respond to what we say, not what you decide we said.

"I will never understand how fighting for the working class and the poor makes one a rebel or a revolutionary."

No one said that "Only Bernie" is fighting for anything. Quit fucking attacking people for what they never said.

Fighting for the working class is the moral and right thing to do. Bernie isn't taking over the party, he's a part of it and works with them. Enough to know that there are people who consider him to be an important ally. If you had read the actual article you would have read that. Instead you went off on one line, containing one fucking word not even seeing why I picked that word to give my opinion. And that makes you decide I'm not a Democrat. If you base being a democrat on your own view of what one is, you may be right, I'm not a Democrat. And I take that as a complement.

insurgent I will never understand how fighting for the working class and the poor makes one a rebel or a revolutionary.

As to your PS. I have no desire to wallow in your hatred of people who don't suit your narrow view based on some reddit nonsense by people who have no clue. Super Pacs are a part of politics, like Liz said about them, "Thatís How It Has To Be"

6. Oh please.

The "rebel or a revolutionary" schtick is an affectation. That's why I dislike it and don't believe in it, like the majority of Democrats.

Of course we need to be a coalition. What are Sanders' supporters doing to make us one, if he wins the nomination? I don't see a whole lot of that from him or his supporters and that troubles me. What happens when the dog catches the car?

16. Well I gotta say,

if so-called moderates vote for a fascist over a socialist, then I question their claim to be moderates or Democrats. Democrats can win with any nominee if we all get one or two non-voters to vote for the Democratic ticket. I think Biden is the best choice and Bloomberg is the worst. But if itís Bernie, the sky wonít be falling.

17. Bernie will make a winning race into a squeaker for the House

and crickets for the Senate. Bernie may, or may not, win. In my view. Those House races in 2018 were squeakers. Yes we won them all, but the last 10 or 11 results trickled in over a week or more by very slim, 300-4,000 vote margins. We didn't pay attention to it, the media didn't harp on it, but it was there.

29. I share your concerns for that scenario, but I'm hoping that the advantage of incumbency and

the fact that Democratic turnout tends to be higher in the general than in the midterms will help keep the House solidly blue, no matter the nominee.

27. Misread your post the first time

There is nothing "so-called" about moderates who will not vote for Sanders. That bothers me too but it is beyond my control. I've tried. They just get mad at me.

But I will say that it is the job of Sanders and his supporters to reach moderates, not the other way around. As I said I see no such effort. I see a lot.of tribalism but no effort to focus on common ground or to compromise.

make one doing so a piraiah or a rebel. It's a moral thing to do, it's the right thing to do. No Democrat should ever even hesitate a micro second to fight for the working class and the poor. No Democrat should ever consider those two things to be revolutionary.

Yet here we fucking are.
