(3,764 posts)"now that we have open primaries" in Texas like this is something new. As long as I've been voting in Texas we've always had open primaries. Not that I don't think it should be changed, just that it's nothing new.

(14,723 posts)Hillary. you had to present yourself in person or did not have a vote. Even though you did not had to
prove you were a Dem, in this small county, your party affiliation was pretty well known. The GOP wanted Hillary and the delegates to the county and then state convention were almost evenly divided here. As a precinct chair, I followed back those new Dems (who as instructed by Rush should vote for Hillary since she had less chance to win.) As I would drive by their houses, I would see GOP stickers on their cars. So you could still pretend to be a Dem but it was harder.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_caucuses Is that what you mean by open primaries?

(3,764 posts)Yes, we have open primaries and we have caucuses. We have always had both. Although now that you can vote anywhere in Harris county, I'm not sure where I would go if we still have caucuses. Used to be, the caucuse immediately followed the primary. The primary has always been open.

There are 19 states with OPEN primaries - anyone can vote regardless of registration, but can only vote in one primary.

(14,723 posts)yet the MSM, DU and tons of other sources continue to label mass killers and others as registered Texas Dems, THERE IS NO SUCH THING!!!!The person might vote in the Dem primary but anyone can: Regugs, Socialists, Communists, Dogs and Cats, etc.

(2,657 posts)Yes, Ed Schultz died on July 5, 2018. I suspect that the video in question is from the 2016 race. However, I suspect that Bernie and his wife are still just as supportive of open primaries as they were in 2016 since I have heard nothing about them changing their minds about them. I also do not see why they would change their views about open primaries. Bernie tended to do better in open primaries in 2016.

Because of GOPers like him and his followers, I oppose open primaries.

(3 posts)So this is the 2016 election. Before we all knew just how much Russia was meddling. Pulling this clip out now and presenting it as if it is current says a lot more about you, Skya Rhen, than it says about Jane Sanders.

(2,915 posts)They were just voting for Bernie to stir up chaos and hurt Hillary. And they succeeded.
The Bernie people were either extremely naive or they knew this would happen and didn't care because they wanted another crack in 2020.

(9,952 posts)integrity and everyone not a Democrat does whatever without repercussion. Democrats need to close and primary only since the others lack integrity. I get we have open primaries because we hope for good intentions and afford everyone wanting to participate in good faith the right to vote. That makes us the good guy> But when you have bad faith actors, we cannot be so accomodating.

(11,884 posts)And reason why I think Warren will continue to climb against him, especially as others burn out very soon, and the push will be for her to get others support over Bernie. Bloomberg as his numbers drop will also reject supporting Bernie over Warren even after she damaged him from the debates.
