Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMike Bloomberg prepares media onslaught against Democratic front-runner Bernie Sanders
twitter&par=sharebar|CNBCSenior aides to Bloombergs campaign have been discussing how they are going to use some of their resources against Sanders, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter who declined to be named because these decisions were made in private. Already, the campaign has spent over $500 million on media ad buys, according to Advertising Analytics.
The campaign plans a multipronged attack, including the publication of opposition research on Sanders, these people said. It will also push out digital attack ads focused on Sanders record. On Monday, the Bloomberg campaign attempted to paint Sanders as a past ally of the National Rifle Association, a gun advocacy group that Bloomberg has fought for over a decade.
The attacks on Sanders, who has accused Bloomberg of trying to buy the Democratic nomination, will also attempt to highlight negative aspects of his record on race relations both as a congressman and senator, the sources said. This comes after Sanders, now seen as the Democratic front-runner, has taken aim at Bloomberg for his support of a policing policy known as stop-and-frisk that often targeted black and Latino people.

(236 posts)Anybody to contest the Republican nomination. So he has to use the avenue best available to him to win. I think that sounds vaguely familiar to one loudmouth Vermont Senator, no?

I don't want him to be the nominee, but the never-ending assertions that he's a Republican are a bit laughable considering his positions on issues that often define the difference between the parties.

(6,960 posts)... we're going to be stuck with Trump for another 4+ years.
I have my doubts about Bernie -- but one man's obscene wealth shouldn't be trashing one of the Democrats legitimate candidate for the presidential nomination.

(6,960 posts)... a legitimate candidate is one that is genuinely competing for votes ... personally ... with the electorate.
Bloomberg is mostly just spending his own money to advertise and buy the nomination -- in the Democratic Party that shouldn't be seen as a legitimate strategy.

(5,554 posts)Yesterday's national YouGov had him trailing Trump head to head by 3%. Biden was +2, Bernie +3.
This was one of the first post debate polls.
Now that voters have heard something other than his campaign ads, they aren't liking what they see. Bloomberg has far too much baggage. We have way better options.

(29,192 posts)The ad implies his votes were bought by the NRA. They took out ads supporting him (long ago). He renounced them. I hope the rest of Bloombergs ads are honest.
Sanders ads will hopefully counter any lies. Im all in favor of vetting him fully. But we deserve truth.

(16,616 posts)I couldn't decide whether he would or not.
People need to remember, he won't unleash anything that Trump wouldn't/won't unleash during the GE.
If he can get through this, it might indicate he will do okay in the GE.

(10,721 posts)Ordinarily, the doctored videos (from the last debate, suggesting Biden and Obama have endorsed him, etc.) alone would be a major scandal.
But the racism, the grotesque misogyny/sexual harassment and the history of literally buying support makes the doctoring of campaign videos seem like absolutely nothing.
People should be deeply, deeply embarrassed.
And the idea that Bloomberg would actually get elected is lunacy.

The idea that Bloomberg could get elected is beyond insane. If people think youth and POC turnout suffered in 2016, they ain't seen nothin' yet if Bloomberg buys the nomination.

(18,483 posts)Are at an end?
For weeks it has been touted that Bloomberg is only attacking Trump; staying nobly above the fray between the other candidates. That was a main talking point, that he was focused solely on beating Trump, that the nomination didn't really matter to him. It seems that will no longer be true, that he is going to divert from his laser focus on the most important goal.
I wonder if Bloomberg will keep his promise to support the nominee if the nominee turns out to be someone he has campaigned against?
