Ideological purity be damned

After Nevada, if Sanders wins the nomination, I trust every democratic candidate and every voter will get behind him, but I truly cannot see how a 1960’s socialist with health issues is the obvious choice to beat Trump – and that is all that matters, ideological purity be damned. The political culture in the UK is to generally much more liberal than the US, and we have been condemned to a really right wing government for the next five years, because Labour, with Corbyn at its head, swung too far left for the average voter. The Boris/Trump Corbyn/Sanders similarities are worrisome. Deja vu is knocking on the door. An ego-driven right-wing narcissist with a 'take our country back' manifesto versus an old tub-thumping socialist who is challenging a status quo that has driven the political culture for the last 50 years. I think that this might be creating a more complex route to victory than is necessary. And so the question that needs to be answered and the strategy that needs to be sorted is how do we ensure a different outcome from the UK GE, because as you all know, I state without exaggeration that the fate of the world rides on the outcome of November 2020.

1. VP

I think it will be very important who his VP pick is, considering there is a fairly high probability they could become president, based on Sanders’ age and health. Very curious who he has in mind.

5. His vp choice will be more important than himself, since he's hiding something in his medical record

2. Thank you for posting this.

Senator Bernie Sanders is riding a wave of enthusiasm for a healthcare plan that will never pass and a free college plan that also will never pass. He is also trying to get himself, a Socialist, to win a Presidential election when Socialists have been largely rejected By America for the past 100 years. He proposes a tax plan that will ensure that a whole lot of incredibly wealthy people will pour money into Super PACs for Donald Trump to make sure that he is incredibly well funded, all while Bernie Sanders promises to make sure that his campaign has less money through his promises of not taking corporate cash.

A Sanders/Trump general election is an epic disaster for Democrats waiting to happen, and what is really sad is that Donald Trump is a weak president who could be beaten by most of the Democratic candidates who are not named Bernie Sanders. This would be a truly self-inflicted wound by the Democrats.

4. Republicans were making the same argument about the cat grabber being unelectable in the

general election in 2016. I don't believe Bernie is unelectable.

6. Some Republicans did say that Trump was unelectable,

but they did not make the same argument that I am making.

Most of the Republicans that I saw making the argument that Trump was unelectable said that he was unelectable because of his racism and sexism. In actuality, racist and sexist men have been elected to the Presidency repeatedly.

I was making the argument that a Socialist won't be elected to the Presidency. In actuality, no Socialist has ever been elected to the Presidency.

3. House and Senate

Keep the House and take back the Senate. BS will at least put sane people in cabinet positions.

7. He won't be putting sane people in cabinet positions if he's not elected.

Bernie would be a lousy president because he's a rigid ideologue who doesn't work well with others, but at least he wouldn't appoint stooges and idiots. The problem, though, is that he isn't likely to have the opportunity to appoint anybody.

8. Naturally, I'm hoping you're right ...

The OP talks about Sanders - Trump as analogous to Corbyn - Johnson. We all know who Putin favors, just for the chaos. If Sanders gets the nomination, then we have to campaign and GOTV that much harder in order to kick McConnell from the majority seat.
