Pro-Biden super PAC to spend $900,000 before New Hampshire primary

Politico

DES MOINES, Iowa — A pro-Joe Biden super PAC plans to spend $900,000 in ads to boost the former vice president in New Hampshire with just a week left before the state’s primary.

It’s a big investment in the closing days of the race in a state where Bernie Sanders is expected to dominate.

The treasurer for the Unite the Country PAC, Larry Rasky, told POLITICO that he viewed the preliminary results out of Iowa a muddle — calling it the right moment to boost Biden, to separate him from two other moderates still very much in the game: Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg.

“What is undeniable is there’s going to be one standard-bearer for each wing of the party,” Rasky said. “This is going to start reshape who that is.”

The coming expenditure follows preliminary reports that Biden did not fare well in Iowa, but a technical glitch that delayed release of the results may have thrown a lifeline to Biden, allowing him to move on to New Hampshire without a dark cloud hanging over his campaign. The Iowa Democratic Party is to release partial results later Tuesday.

More campaign ads. That'll solve the problem.

This isn't a situation where we wait until June and see who has the most. If Biden continues to underperform in the early contests, he risks his fundraising and endorsements drying up.

As my wife comments, he has a large campaign that functions like an battleship; it's got a lot of power, but it can't turn quickly.

..."If Biden continues to underperform in the early contests"?

Well, Biden wasn't expected to win in Iowa, nor is he expected to win in New Hampshire, and probably not in Nevada, either.

Everyone following this should know that he'd probably going to "lose" those three (proportional) states. Yet he'll still get a share of the delegates.

After Super Tuesday is over he'll probably have about a 50-70 delegate lead.

I believe that might be right, and the primaries could collapse down to a 2 person race.

But Bloomberg's entry into the race complicates and possibly stops that process.

If Bloomberg garners significant delegates that mean neither Biden nor Buttigieg would single-handedly own the moderate wing. Even if he doesn't win himself, he might stop either Joe or Pete from gaining enough momentum to consolidate leadership of the moderate wing,

And the longer the race stays one among multiple candidates, the longer Warren can hang in and divide the progressive wing with Sanders.

Time will tell.

There's no getting around that.

Joe can afford to lose to either Sanders or Warren and possibly even both since they are Senators from nearby states and progressives, but he can't afford to lose to fellow moderate Pete Buttigieg on neutral ground in New Hampshire.
