Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThank you Rashida Tlaib for showing us how we will defeat Donald Trump.
Tlaib was upset that Hillary Clinton attacked Bernie by saying "nobody likes him." She let her protectiveness of Bernie get the best of her, and attacked back by booing Hillary at a Bernie event.
That was wrong of her.
But.
She did the right thing and apologized gracefully. This is how we defeat Trump. When we make mistakes to each other, we apologize. Instead of escalating, de-escalate. She didn't say "Hillary needs to apologize first." She went ahead and did the right thing, and put the incident behind us.

(67,782 posts)...apology isn't going to unite to defeat trump, either.
Tlaib won her primary by a mere 900 votes in 2018, getting only 31% of the vote. I hope she makes the most of the next 11 months, she'll be unemployed come January 2021.

(20,709 posts)Hillary Clinton should apologize too, but even if she doesn't, Tlaib has shown that the high road will take us to victory over Trump.
Attacking Dems, particularly progressives like Tlaib, is not helpful to party unity.

(12,363 posts)She blamed HRC for her antics, if she hadn't gotten such a massive backlash, she would have never "apologized".
And another point, why hasn't your man Bernie come out and issued a statement about Rashid's antics?
Could it be that he approves it.
He did run away from a legitimate question about it yesterday.

I appreciate your many threads of the one note squad.
This is what Trump does.
Democrats dont tear the party up. Simple identification right in front of our eyes.
Bernie is only a Democrat when it helps him.

(12,363 posts)because, in reality, there is no apology, all she did was blame HRC, who came to her defense when the Mango Menace was attacking her and her fellow squad members, for her comments, nowhere was there and apology.

(20,709 posts)It's the first de-escalation of this whole thing. And it could have been much weaker. Like she could have made excuses like "I wasn't booing Hillary, I was just booing the words Hillary said" or whatever.
She's in a spot, because if she over-apologizes it will annoy the Bernie people who are still upset about what Hillary said, and if she under-apologizes it will upset the anti-Bernie people. Pretty good given the circumstances.

(12,809 posts)"if she over-apologizes it will annoy the Bernie people who are still upset about what Hillary said, and if she under-apologizes it will upset the anti-Bernie people. "
Democrats always seem to be way too sensitive about individual things that, while they do indeed matter, are simply not the most pressing collective priority, and having to walk these sorts of fine lines is a real distraction and disservice to our elected officials and candidates who's skills and attention should be focused on the big picture: defeating Republicans.
As someone around here posted earlier: we can get back to infighting once democracy is off life support, but we can't afford to be doing it right now.
