Why waste all this time in Iowa?

Makes so much sense. Bloomberg is a smart guy. Democrats spend a year knocking on doors in Iowa when Trump will win that state in the general election. They should be starting in battle ground states. Start in Wisc, then Mich 2nd, follow up in PA & NC.

That way we are building a network in those states and winning the people over that actually matter more in the general election.

Listen to the video on this link. He explains it so well.

Michael Bloomberg: Starting with Iowa and New Hampshire hurts Democrats and helps Trump

The Democratic Party reflects America's incredible diversity. But the first two voting states, Iowa and New Hampshire, are among the most homogenous in the nation. While it's great that candidates reach out to voters in these states at every pancake breakfast and town hall around, what about African-American, Latino, Asian American, Pacific Islanders, and other voters in places like Detroit, Montgomery, Phoenix, and Houston? I've visited them all recently, and almost to a person, voters tell me the other campaigns have almost no presence in their cities.

The problem is compounded by the fact that the two early voting states are unlikely to be consequential in the general election. So as a party, we are spending all of our time and resources outside of the battleground states we need to win.

Meanwhile, President Trump is spending his time in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and North Carolina -- all states we lost in 2016 by razor-thin margins. In 2020, we need to reverse at least some of those results -- and we also have the chance to flip other states that voted for Trump, including Arizona and even Texas.

But right now, we are in danger of repeating 2016 in large part because, as Democrats focus on Iowa and New Hampshire, Trump is operating at full-speed in the battleground states, with field staff and targeted television and digital advertisements. Tuesday, while Democrats are on stage in Des Moines, he'll be speaking to thousands of supporters in Wisconsin a state Democrats need to rebuild the Blue Wall.

1. Good question.

Why hasn't this obviously unfair practice changed?

Why should the votes of those few in early states be given so much more importance than everyone else?

15. By 'we' you mean the DNC?

As I understand it, it's the parties that decide on how this stuff plays out.

18. Well, the DNC implements it, but one assumes they are beholden to us in some way.

(As does the RNC for the Republicans.)

20. Logistically it's probably easier to picket and protest at the party headquarters, than the White

House, just by comparison.

2. Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina

are all about news cycles and "momentum"

I see Bernie supporters (and even a few who claimed to be non Bernie supporters) claiming today that Bernie is likely to win both Iowa and New Hampshire so why bother supporting any other candidates... it's a done deal!"

I don't like that we pick two states with a lack of diversity to go first... but it is what it is right now.

5. A prediction: Iowa (and New Hampshire) will go first in 2024 and everyone will complain again

First, nobody can STOP New Hampshire from being the first in the nation Primary unless you're going to switch to a Caucus (which people don't want to do either). It's a mandatory State Law, and they've been willing to change dates in the past to protect it.

Second, no consequential Democratic candidate will challenge Iowa's first in the nation caucus process. The only candidate who did this time was Castro, and how did that work out? The early caucus process gives candidates without name recognition and war chests the opportunity to try to develop face to face campaigning into a movement. Nobody will be willing to give up that opportunity.

10. I disagree

The party can decide to not count their votes if they do not step inline

The party does that now if states try and move up.

anything can change and it needs to

12. The DNC should strip the delegates from IA and NH. Candidates will head elsewhere.

It is absolutely insulting to our party that two overwhelmingly white states foist upon us the front runner(s) when NV and SC look far more like our parry and our country than IA and NH.

6. One other factor: shakeoout

Better to test your organization and get your newer people experienced in smaller. less critical and more homogeneous states. California or Super Tuesday is not the time to find flaws in your procedures, software,or people. If your mailing list or phone banking software is shit, the time to find it out is in New Hampshire, not Texas.

7. The party should meet 2 years out and decide the primary schedule

This needs to change.

This is not about tradition. This should be about winning a general election and if Candidates and their staff have been running around Wisc & Mich the last year knocking on doors and meeting with local reporters ...etc the strong hold you set yourself up for in the general is so much better.

We should be building grass root operations in battle ground states not wasting time in Iowa. A state that Republicans win every election.

With the right candidate, we can win it again in 2020.

8. Any time and money wasted in WI should be spent in AZ - a state we will win this year.

Michigan looks good for us as does PA. NC and GA would be the next two states I would focus on this year. A huge turnout increase among young and minority voters will flip all of those states.

9. Bloomberg's strategy is counting on Biden to stumble badly in the early states

Then he comes riding in on the white horse to save the day.

There will be no coronation, it will all play out through Super Tuesday, and beyond, so buckle your seatbelts, and VOTE!

11. I didn't like Iowa

when Bernie was at 9% in the polls ...For some reason , I'm starting to warm up to the state ...I can't figure out why ? . To be a bit more serious .Blame the media ...They created and have perpetuated the narrative that the first 2 states , Iowa and NH, are the be and end all of Primary politics ....This has been going on since Jimmy Carter received the most votes of any candidate in 1976 ..
