CNN's Joe Lockhart Argues Media Isn't Taking Bernie Sanders Seriously: 'Hard Floor of Supporters'Mediaite
By Connor Mannion Jan 11th, 2020, 7:01 pm CNN commentator Joe Lockhart told S.E. Cupp on her show that he doesn’t think the media is seriously considering how Sen. Bernie Sanders could run away with the nomination. “There’s real shades of 2016,” Lockhart said. “I’m gonna get flamed on Twitter tonight … but the media early on did not take Trump seriously. So they didn’t vet him and say, does your plan add up? And you know what about your plan on Iran and getting out?” “Up until now, the media has not taken Bernie Sanders that seriously,” he continued. “He would say the same thing,” Cupp interjected. “And he’s been right,” Lockhart agreed. snip more at link

1. as a Biden supporter
I'll say this. Bernie has a base that will walk over hot coals for him. He will energize the youth. His base is as loyal as Trumps. He better be taken seriously. I like Bernie and will support him.if he is nominee but I feel an undercurrent of momentum and Trump like underestimate with him.

43. If only he could have gotten them to work as hard to stop Trump in 2016
In my perception, he either did not try, or showed failure of leadership. We should not be going through what we are today, if only he could have mobilized that "base" he has. I talked to too many IRL that refused to vote for Hillary (in an important EC swing state). Had he given the word in a way they believed, they would have been out canvassing for her.

and asking that they not repeat 2016 where according to him the media "did not take Trump seriously."

21. Definitely sounds like it
For example, it feels the expectations for Warren to defend the feasibility of her healthcare plan were considerably higher.
So let's not repeat the mistake that was done with Trump again by applying a way higher standard to one side while letting everything else from the other pass because the prospect of that side participating in the election is just a joke anyways. The same mistake gave Trump the GOP nomination. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

He is the only one that just comes out and says the 1% control everything.
Go Bernie. I am not complaining about the other candidates who I like all of. Bernie just points out the world's number on problem when the others skip around it. Oligarchs run the country like their own cash machine. Having legislation written to further enrich the, and the oligarch owned media convincing all of us to not complain while we donate to their kids trust funds. Other candidates have their strong points but this is the world's number one problem. One percent of the population has 90% of the power and 50% of the wealth. 22. I like Bernie and would have voted for him in 2016
if he would have been the nominee. By the time our state votes, (June) things had been pretty well decided. I like him and his ideas, but I do not think he has any chance of winning in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. If he somehow becomes the nominee, I will certainly vote for him, but I don't think he will win the general election. Yes, there are a lot of younger voters that support him, but I wonder how many will actually vote. The most reliable voters are older Americans. The GOP will spread fear among the independents, moderate Democrats, and never Trumpers with their "Socialist" label. Other candidates would fare much better among this group in my opinion. If by some chance Bernie becomes the nominee, I will vote for him but I fear we will be in for 4 more years of the Orange Madman in the White House.
Just an opinion from one of those older Americans. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

What is Joe afraid of ? ..Is he afraid the peasants are going to get the same quality of healthcare he gets ? … Is he afraid the children of the peasants are going to be able to send their kids to college ?.... 42. And it'll take devotees/zealots if the press will cover him properly.
I remember how flabbergasting that interview was -- to the editorial board, not just me. After over 25 years in congress and running for president on strong declarations of what he'd do, he had very little idea how government could be used to implement his dreams. His answer was that he'd make the promises now and later get experts who would know how.
![]() He's no Trump; Trump far surpasses him in I believe every one of their various resemblances. But if there were no Trump, Sanders' ignorance would have been the most shocking for the circumstances I'd ever run into. Apparently he had limited interest in how the different branches of government work, plus all his passions had always been no more than dreams he didn't expect to need to know anything about? Including the most recent one of how to destroy the Obama administration's great achievement and use his claimed need to do that to run for president on. He's still figuring he'll hire experts to pull off the promised replacement. ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |
