Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThis is Why Bernie will Beat Trump like Many Hammers on Many Piano Strings!
Day after day we see proof right here on DU from a very unlikely source; Dems who are solidly against Bernie.
Almost everyone of us on DU have proclaimed, like me to vote for whoever wins our Primary. But many of us who oppose Bernie will often post positive support from non-Dems about what they like about Bernie.
This is a great thing for Bernie. Not a bad thing.
It's hard for most of us political junkies, like myself, to imagine that most people don't care or even hear what we think about any of our candidates. What they do hear is when say, a former supporter of Trump, or even worse to some a Jill Stein supporter, proclaim they like Bernie or Joe or whoever.
Night after night I read posts here on DU extolling some actress or other Bernie supporter who vocally voted for someone other than a Dem in 2016.
Thanks all! This is why I know Sen. Sanders will be our 46th POTUS!!!!
Now, please have fun today and tomorrow my dear Dem friends. Because I know I will!!!!!!!!

I simply cannot understand how he can run as the Democratic Party's nominee for President and not declare himself as a D.
Until then, Uncle Joe's the one!

(48,959 posts)worry about doing that, since he won't be the nominee.
I will worry about Bernie supporters suffering from the. um, misunderstanding (more polite word than I first thought of) that people who aren't Bernie supporters and really hope he won't be the nominee will somehow come to "love Bernie."
Not happening.

(24,122 posts)took the time to listen to his stump speeches & found him to be sincere, honest, and willing to work hard to earn their respect and their vote. That's the trait of a good leader with vision, who can change hearts and minds... that's Bernie!!
I'm proud to say they've climbed aboard the "Bernie Bandwagon"... not only that, they've signed on to the Bernie10/10 plan that I created... they each pledge to recruit 10 people to vote for Bernie, who in turn pledge to recruit 10 of their own Bernie voters. In this way, the Bernie vote will grow exponentially... like a raging river that grows out of a collection of individual rain drops!!
Bernie/Elizabeth or Elizabeth/Bernie 2020!!
Either way, they're stronger together & can't be bought!!

Trump would bury sanders with ads based on all of sanders speeches praising Fidel Castro, the old Soviet Union, bread lines, Central American socialist leaders who hated the United States, and sanders various essays. There are videos that would make great attack ads
No Democratic candidate has used this oppo on sanders because none of the candidates think that sanders has any chance of being the nominee.
As a personal matter, sanders would kill down ballot candidates and give control of the House to the GOP. I and other real Democrats have been working hard to turn Texas blue. If Biden is the nominee, Texas will be a battleground state. If sanders is the nominee, trump will win Texas easily and pick up a number of seats

(25,456 posts)I'm guessing that you meant support and not oppose.
The visceral reaction to Jill Stein and her supporters is justified, as far as I'm concerned. She and they are part of how we ended up with Trump, particularly Stein and her both-sides nonsense and laughable claims that Clinton would start a nuclear war with Russia.
Placing some of her more prominent and vocal supporters high in any Democratic candidate's campaign was bound to generate a reaction. Some, and I include myself in that group, don't believe they belong anywhere near a Democratic campaign, and I don't believe that they are a positive for Senator Sanders. Obviously, you and your candidate disagree.

(48,959 posts)former Jill Stein supporters support Sanders, then somehow that means Sanders will not only get the nomination, but beat Trump.
I'll admit I don't follow the reasoning there.
You mentioned "some actress" -- if you mean Susan Sarandon, I really don't think her backing Sanders will sway any voters.
No one in their right mind would listen to someone who said Hillary Clinton was more dangerous than Trump.

(25,449 posts)I saw a comment on Twitter today that Trump voters are just undereducated Bernie voters. That when Trump voters hear Bernie's stump speech they will understand that they have been voting against their own interests and join the class struggle.
I do not think this is correct.

(48,959 posts)-snip-
Among voters who have paid little or zero attention to the 2020 race, Sanders came out on top with 28 percent. Biden garnered 23 percent of support and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) came in at third place with six percent in the same category of respondents. An additional 22 percent said they didn't know which candidate to support.
Among voters who have paid some attention to the 2020 race, Biden was the number one pick, with 33 percent of votes. Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) followed behind in second and third place, garnering 19 percent and 16 percent, respectively.
Finally, among voters who have paid a lot of attention to the 2020 race, Biden remained in the top spot with an even higher result of 42 percent. The same category of individuals backed Warren for second place with 15 percent and Sanders fell to third, garnering eight percent among Americans that closely followed the presidential campaign.

(29,225 posts)Folks ought to be able to be enthusiastic about their favorite candidate without getting torn apart for it. Playful banter or principled disagreement rather than evisceration (incessant bullying by a few folks) would support more of a team mentality. (And Im not talking about you ) Just MHO.
Because whoever we end up putting up against trump is going to be carrying all our hopes. We shouldnt have to work too hard mending fences among ourselves to rally together.

(36 posts)I plan on voting for whoever wins the nomination. Period. Because as if you are labeled as a Dem or an Independent, I could care less, as long as there isn't an R next to your name. As for the silly infighting between the pro-Joe and the pro-Bernies, Do not glorify your political candidates because I can guarantee at some point your heroes will disappoint you. If they get into office, they will be forced into a political situation, where they have certain facts that you aren't privy to, and they will vote against your interests because life isn't rainbows and unicorns, its blood, sweat and a lot of tears.
Dems have spent the past 40 years giving away all of our power and gains because our leaders wanted to "get along" with the Republicans. As a gen-Xer I have fought for and watched all of my gains swept away because of the power of Boomer voting numbers, this is literally the first time in my 50 years that I see we actually have a chance to win and to keep winning. But I have also watched as election after election regardless of gerrymandering, close elections we could have won but Dem voters were just to busy to go and vote. Dems Always lose because other Dems don't vote. We need to have massive turnouts for the next 50+ years.
Vote to win no matter the candidate. That has always been the playbook of the republicans and that is why we have been in this mess for the past 40 years.

(11,802 posts)...which is you can't assume what you read on DU will translate to the general. Everyone on DU will vote, no doubt. But much of the electorate needs to be either inspired, or scared. While I argue that none of the candidates inspire (Obama set the bar way too high.), some may offer assurances to a scared electorate. And Biden, Mayor Pete, and/or Amy seem to be the more calming influences among the candidates left. With this upcoming election, we're just trying to get back to the baseline, and those three seem best suited to get us there. Of course, if we win the presidency, but not the Senate, well, I'm not sure how much will get done. That's why I've been saying for several months taking back the Senate, and holding the house, should be our play. If we do both of those, I couldn't care less who is President.
