1. It also helps if people, you know, actually support those candidates.

A not so minor detail.

Then this sounds like the way to do it.

13. Because the small states would throw a fit as they would be ignored.

Candidates would largely focus on large, vote/delegate rich states instead of the small states. Those small states have a sense of entitlement and pomposity to them which prevents any meaningful change to the system.

It will take a DNC with the courage to change the travesty of IA and NH going first, perhaps by refusing to award those states any delegates.

A national primary will not occur barring a constitutional amendment or a miracle of 40-45 states agreeing to vote on the same day

3. Dems moved up SC and Nevada to include more minorities

Iowa and NH is a long standing tradition that needs to be updated. Why not rotate which states come first and include some small diverse states?

8. Dems haven't won SC in a general election since 1976

Why should we care what they think?

Nevada I'm all for as an early state. It's becoming blue, but not so much that we can't get a purple read from it.

since they are swing states.

As long as they actually count votes in Detroit, which they didn't last time in the general election.

Because they're Democrats and have as much say in the primary process as the rest of us.

22. Irrelevant.

They're all part of the process and their delegates factor in the totals.

Also, the presidency isn't the only race on the ballot. If you want to ensure that Democrats in states like SC get discouraged and don't help make inroads at over levels of government, especially in state legislatures, keep telling them that they don't matter.

24. Why didn't South Carolina, specifically, get motivated for the most transformative Democrat

....since JFK?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_United_States_presidential_election_in_South_Carolina

Makes me sick. They couldn't even vote for Bill Clinton either time he ran.

They can make me shut up forever by voting for Harrison over Graham, but you know they won't. They'll probably just primary Graham for an even bigger Trump ball sniffer.

6. I have argued this point in the past. IA and NH should be nowhere close to first in the nation.

Yet some people, including DUers, feel it is more important to honor tradition than it is to confront reality.

That being said, it probably wouldn't have helped Senator Harris. Her polling in South Carolina has been very poor.

Cory Booker and Kamala Harris were polling terribly in SC .As I recall , a fellow named Barack Obama won Iowa in 2008 There should be a rotation in the roster of early states .Hopefully smaller states with a greater minority population ..

Otherwise, the system would still be gamed to set up a win for party favorites by picking favorable states.

21. Nope. This would destroy most candidates, and benefit people like Bloomberg.

This would require that every candidate field a 50-state strategy from the get-go. Good luck with raising that kind of money. Unless, of course, you're already a billionaire and can self-finance, and make the rest up with your pals on Wall Street. That would destroy grass-roots campaigns of newer or bolder voices who aren't tapping massive personal fortunes and corporate backing.
