In retrospect, even though factually correct, Hillary was wrong to raise the profile of Gabbard

Tulsi Gabbard was languishing between 1% and 2% in polls and wasn't going to qualify for the November of December debates.

By raising her profile, even though the criticisms of Gabbard were correct, Hillary inadvertently has now gotten Gabbard up to the 5% to 6% range and qualified for the debates.

A candidate like Gabbard needed to be STARVED of media attention, not given it. By bringing Gabbard into the news cycle, Hillary made a very big mistake. She gave oxygen to a struggling campaign..... and now we'll have to listen to Gabbard be destructive at the next two debates.

Should've left well enough alone and starved her for attention. Instead, Gabbard will now be around long enough to be disruptive and will probably run third party.

Hillary made a mistake. We can love Hillary and still admit that.

I love Hillary and worked hard for her in 2016.

But she made a mistake here. It is ok to admit that.

Now we have to try to undo the damage and bring the Gabbard campaign down ... a campaign that was practically dead and has now been brought back to life.

Gabbard won't win the nomination, or even any delegates.... but she can now be very disruptive because she has qualified for the debates.

Since the Republican nomination is already known, GOPers will be working their mischief in our primary. Of course, a couple of years ago, a lot of Democrats, myself included, voted in a Republican primary for a Senate race between incumbent Thad Cochran and a radical who had Sarah Palin's support. Cochran barely won, and the challenger was mad as hell about the Democrats who voted. So it can cut both ways.

56. I have mixed feelings on that topic. Yes, I understand where you are coming from.

Your viewpoint has merit IMO. However, in fairness we need to point out that strategic voting has occurred on both sides in the past. I remember that here in Nevada in 2010 some Democrats changed parties and voted for Sharron Angle in the Republican senatorial primary because she was a total right wing extremist nut job who would surely lose to Reid in the general and the strategy worked. Of course we will never know what would have happened if Sue Lowden had won that primary but it was widely believed that she would have been a much tougher opponent in the general election. At the very least she would have forced Harry to spend a lot more money to get reelected.

So this issue is really a two-way street.

Yes, it is a two-way street and Democrats have done it in the past.

It should NOT be allowed.

Only registered Democrats should be allowed to pick the Democratic nominee, and only registered Republicans should be able to pick the Republican nominee. Same with 3rd parties.

If you aren't going to officially belong to a party, you shouldn't have a say in who their candidate is.

27. NH does not allow "anyone to vote in the primaries".

NH allows independent voters to vote in either primary by registering at the poll for the party of the primary they want to vote in. Registered Republicans cannot switch and vote in the Democratic primary and vice versa. It is a fair system that encourages citizen participation.

not Hillary for this...and if Warren and / or Sanders lose because of it ( I think Biden wins anyway)...it is on New Hampshire for allowing this sort of thing. Ohio has the same system and it sucks...if we matter in this primary when our turn comes, they will be doing it here too.

You would have to go to your town hall before the election and reregister. And you can do that in every state that has primaries. Oh and there is a blackout period that starts when filing for the primary starts and the day of the primary.

NH only allows undeclared voters to declare for a party at the polls.

19. As recent polls show,

it's not Dems behind Gabbard's support in the polls. She wouldn't be less disruptive without Clinton's comments or without qualifying for the next debate. She might have gotten less of the attention she gets now but she also might have been in different circumstances for a potential third party run, coordinated in secret because no one who knew better talked about it.
I assume that Clinton first has a solid foundation for her theory that Gabbard might be in the plans for a third party run and secondly she had a reason to make the comments when she did. You cannot expect her to not warn us about something like this. Clinton pulled away her cover and Gabbard's reaction proved her right.

70. Lots of folks said Hillary was wrong when . . .

she called the deplorables . . . deplorable. Of course, now we know that she was absolutely correct--white nationalists, Neo-nazis, former Klan members, the alt-right all love themselves a big old heaping of Trumpism. And that's not even mentioning the foreign deplorables.

It was a warning then on Trump, that what we saw--the bloviating, lying megalomaniac--was all there was. There was no 'other' Trump ready to take on the presidential mantle. Just the ignorant, crass, petty individual we now all loathe.

A warning then and it's a warning now. Gabbard has an agenda and many of the monied interests supporting her campaign have an agenda as well. Neither agenda is Democratic-friendly.

We ignore the second warning at our own peril. Just think Jill Stein for a moment and you'll get where I'm going regarding Hill's comments. I think Hillary Clinton blew Gabbard's cover and that's why Gabbard is on the warpath. Whatever sweet deal she was cooking up has been burned, hopefully beyond recognition.

And from where I'm sitting? That's a good thing, a very good thing.

It's really so unimportant. She will share the stage with several other candidate who will compete for air time. It won't be noteworthy. It's strange that you put such an importance on qualifying for a debate while having apparently accepted that Gabbard will make a third party run. That should be the major issue not that one debate. Gabbard's actions and positions have been aberrant to Democratic standards enough that I feel she deserved to be "outed." And I think the outing will be a service to the party in the long run. I don't think there is any great harm in her (small) bounce (or debate participation). And I think any (potential) third party run has been utterly gutted. It's a net plus.

58. However deluded they are and however much others hate them for hating Hillary

Hillary helped Tulsi, and gave all the people who hate her a champion to rally around

Wish I knew why

38. Na.

Gabbard was hoping to miss these debates because she wanted to cry on TV about how the democratic primary was rigged and they plotted to keep her out.

If you're just worried she is going to attack your candidate, that's on them. They know she's going to be there and should be ready for it.

It was predictable, though.

48. Pfffffff.

Iíll take Hillaryís point of action over some anonymous internet concerns any day.

What she did was a national service. As always. Tulsi exposed minimizes Tulsiís opportunities to hurt the Democratic Party and our candidates.

I am not afraid of Tulsi Gabbard. Why on earth are you?

What it is, is we wish she would go away, and Hillary made sure that will not happen anytime soon

53. She didn't mention gabbard by name. The fact that

everyone immediately knew who Hillary was talking about should be troubling to every Democrat.

Also, is there a link showing where tulsky's increase in support is coming from??? I've only seen interest from rethugs and/or trumpers.

68. They didn't know. Her spokesman admitted it was Gabbard the next day and that is when the media

firestorm took off. It may have been the spokesman's fault? Maybe Hillary wanted to keep it vague and the Nick Merrill blew it?

Snip: In a recent interview, Clinton didn't mention Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii by name, but said she believes one candidate is "the favorite of the Russians." Asked if the former secretary of state was referring to Gabbard, Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said, "If the nesting doll fits..." He later tweeted that Clinton was referring to the GOP grooming Gabbard, not Russians.

54. You think that endlessly writing stuff about her on social media doesn't

help her and raise her profile? Stop blaming Hillary and consider what some have written about Tulsi and how that inadvertently may have helped her get into the debates. There have been so many Tulsi threads, I lost count. And why is Hillary alone blamed ? Sanders has defended Tulsi. I am so tired of Hillary being blamed for everything. She was a great nominee and I was proud to support her.

64. Yes, she had zero qualifying polls for the November debate, let alone the harder to make December one

before the Clinton interaction. Now she not only easily qualified for November debate, but is one one poll (and can get it two separate ways) away from qualifying for the December one as well. Furthermore, she now has an early state poll at 6%, and outside of the clear top 4, only Harris (who also has one) has hit that level. She also has gained 10's of thousands of individual donors since the Clinton interaction as well.

65. I thought so at first, but it actually pre-empted Gabbard

Now if Gabbard does try to endorse Trump or run as a 3rd party candidate, it will be obvious to everyone that Hillary was right. Gabbard probably would have done something, perhaps with the help of Russians/Republicans to get this boost anyway.

in politics where you can't let stuff like this slip out. It created a firestorm of bad publicity for Hillary and elevated Gabbard back up. No doubt about it.
