Harris: My Plan is So 'Superior' To Warren's MFA That 'I Don't Feel the Need' to Take it Apart

Video at the link:

https://www.mediaite.com/news/kamala-harris-my-plan-is-so-superior-to-warrens-medicare-for-all-that-i-dont-feel-the-need-to-take-it-apart/

On Thursday morning’s edition of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, former Obama official and MJ regular Steve Rattner spent a portion of the show laying out his objections to Warren’s recently-released plan to fund her Medicare for All plan, and when Senator Harris sat for an interview later in the show, co-host Willie Geist asked about those objections.

“Steve walked through the charts suggesting that the numbers don’t add up, not suggesting but proving that they don’t add up,” Geist said, and asked “For people who don’t pay attention closely, what’s the distinction between Elizabeth Warren’s plan and your plan to change the healthcare system?”

“I’m not taking away people’s private plan options,” Harris replied, adding that “I supported Medicare for all at the beginning of the process, and I heard from people. And they said, we want choice.”

-snip-

“So you say you will not raise taxes on the middle class, Elizabeth Warren has said the same,” Geist said. “Do you believe she is telling the truth, with that 34 trillion dollars of new revenue she’ll have to find?”

“I think the voters will make that decision,” Harris replied.

-snip-

Rattner then cut in, telling Harris he appreciated her focus on a positive campaign, but added “what people come to me and say is ‘Why aren’t the other Democrats pointing this out?’ Why aren’t the other Democrats doing in effect what I’m doing, which is taking apart her numbers and showing that the numbers don’t work?’ So why aren’t you and your fellow Democrats taking apart her numbers and showing that they don’t work?”

“I am so convinced that my plan is superior to that plan that I don’t really feel the need to do that,” Harris replied. “I am really convinced, and I know that we have done the work on my plan. I am not going to take away people’s choice about having a public or a private plan, I am going to give people a transition that allows folks like organized labor to actually renegotiate their contract.”

“But she’s going to add 34 trillion dollars of spending that she hasn’t paid for, and doesn’t the public have a right to understand that from people like you?” Rattner pressed.

“Absolutely, and I’m glad you’ve done that work Steve,” Harris said with a laugh.

1. Sen Warren will either prepare for Rattner and Harris' talking points or she will not. She knows

full well the corporate detractors will not let up. If she successfully navigates the political questions and land mines and is elected...she will be the most formidable president we have seen in a long long time....maybe the last was LBJ.

3. Harris is just falling and falling fast and this is why

“I’m not taking away people’s private plan options,” Harris replied, adding that “I supported Medicare for all at the beginning of the process, and I heard from people. And they said, we want choice.”

But you are, just over a longer time? Her answer makes no sense at all. She is taking away their private plan but in 10 years instead of 4. So how can you say you are not taking away their choice? I do not like this texas 2 step

Its why Pete has the best answer and solution on heath care. While I completely agree with Warren on this issue I understand the public is not completely ready. Start the public option - people will sign up for it cause it will be cheaper. You can probably start getting unions into after you show it works. Private insurance will never be able to compete. 5-10 years from now the public will see its working and people like it better and you can start to fade out private insurance

4. I think it is a mistake for candidates to insinuate.....

...their "plan" can be adopted as a presidential decree. It makes people disappointed in them as office holder, when the actual resulting plan, (which may not resemble the President's wishes exactly) has to go through the wringer of Congressional action, and could take longer than a snap of the finger; and could end up on the cutting floor if the Congress is Republican.

I've said this before....but.....

look at her statements on guns, for example. She sometimes doesn't seem to realize she's running for President, not Emperor.

5. Yet another Warren bashing with a dubious source using a sock

The bashing is beginning early today. Rattner is a Wall Street financier guy who had to pay a $10 million fine in NY for his dealings - and his "expertise" was in the auto industry. So yes let's consider him a great source on Warren's plan.

And then use Harris as a way to attack Warren so we don't soil another. It just keeps going lower and lower.

8. You complain about my "Warren bashing" but 4 of your last 5 OPs were bashing Biden:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287322797

No one shows up to Joe Biden debate parties
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287319377

I guess you took a break from the Biden-bashing long enough to post a poll where Warren was leading by an unusually wide margin.

My search using Advanced Search turned up 5 more OPs here from you between April and June (that search feature didn't find any OPs from you in July - September), but three of those took swipes at Warren's rivals:

The Secret to Elizabeth Warren's Surge? Ideas
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287154993

NBC/WSJ poll: Enthusiasm for Warren surges while same for Biden, Sanders falls
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287154036

Warren leads again: proposes legislation so presidents can be indicted
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287136585

Elizabeth Warren is the star who may eclipse Bernie Sanders
https://www.democraticunderground.com/128783727

Pete Buttigieg has everything except positions on major issues
https://www.democraticunderground.com/128773772

So, out of 10 OPs that you posted in the last 7 months:

2 were apparently pro-Warren without taking swipes at other candidates (good for you for posting those, since you seem to think that's what candidate's supporters should always focus on)

1 promoted Warren as a star who'll eclipse Sanders

2 were about unusual polls showing Warren leading (I post lots of polls, but that's included polls where candidates other than Biden were leading)

1 belittled Pete Buttigieg

4 were swipes at Joe Biden

But you want to criticize me for what I post?

24. I don't post multiple threads daily the way you do

So I will put my post count up against yours as a comparison any day. You do it every day, day after day.

I also don't characterize the way you do (a nice way to put it). You simply post your characterizations of what the threads were about (such as "4 were swipes at Biden). I think you and others on here are taking swipes at Anita Hill because she is saying (for what may be justifiable reasons for feeling that way) that they would not do about another woman. If Biden was a repub I have no doubt you and the others on here who dismiss her would be in her corner.

What you say is a swipe at Biden may in fact just be factual information you don't like to hear, such as the debate party (which goes to the lack of enthusiasm for his campaign which is critical to winning). As is his naivete about the repubs having an epiphany. There are several Biden supporters who don't want to hear anything other than fawning praise of him and go after anyone who dares to do so.

I also don't use RW sources or Wall Street fatcats as sources the way you do. So there's that.

BTW, your daily bashing of Warren has had no effect. She has stayed right where she is in the DU polling, as has Biden.

32. Listen to your own advice

What she listed was inaccurate in her characterizations and covered seven months. I pointed out that hers are done on a daily basis (sometimes mutiple posts a day on Warren) and have gone on for months. I posted above with just a one month sample showing that.

I will defend every one of my posts, but I have seen that certain Biden supporters on here are more interested in shutting down debate with personal attacks on Warren and anyone who points out obioius flaws in the Biden candidacy. The fact that many pundits also point these out only brings out the "the media is being unfair to Joe" memes and in no way answers the critiques. In that vein it is also interesting that even though Warren is ahead by nine points in the DU poll there are very few of us who post for her or try to counter the attacks on Warren by about a dozen or so of the same Biden supporters on a daily basis. A look at any of these types of threads is probably instructive as to why.

For me, however, your personal attacks won't have an effect. I will continue to point out things about the candidates and about posters when I feel it deserves it.

Mahalo.

31. So I did an advanced search and what do you know

This was a A ONE MONTH search with only Warren in the search topic. I’m sure there were more in other threads with other titles but here are 10 not from seven months but from one month of your threads. The search reveals 10 threads denigrating Warren with mocking comments and on ONE DAY there were THREE such posts. On one day, So yes, it is a daily bashing and at this point looks more like a crusade:

This one belittling Warren with this headline:

LOL! Warren campaign says she's looking for other revenue options for MFA, won't say what

And this comment from you:
I guess she FINALLY realized just how bad she was making herself look with all the evasiveness dodging the question of how she'd pay for Medicare for All. All it took was other candidates and the media pointing this out to her repeatedly.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287312677

Another sock post using Clinton to bash Warren’s plan (Nov. 6):
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287337993

This editorial from the RW Wall Street Journal (Nov. 4th)l:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287336930

This one once again attacking Warren because of her healthcare plan (an interesting theme I’ve noticed) from Nov. 3:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287333904

This one on Warren not doing as well in polls (ALSO Nov. 4th):
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287335015

This one ALSO on Nov. 4th (making THREE negative threads in ONE DAY) with a disparagement of Warren on Saturday Night Live (their take and yours too I’m sure):
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287333097

This one from Nov. 1st (guess you took a couple of days off from Warren bashing) on Krugman’s take on her plan (with your own condescending lead-in commentary). It’s behind a paywall so I have only your word that Krugman portrayed it as negatively as you claim so would need to see the article to know for sure:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287331136

This one from Oct. 21st an attack on Warren in regard to lobbyists:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287318968

This one from Ocxt. 16th of Pete snarkily attacking Warren’s helathcare plan by belittling her use of selfies at events:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287312162

This one from Oct. 14th on Warren firing an aide for past tweets, comparing her to Sanders. In the thread you got called out for inaccurate phrasing in your comments and didn’t bother to answer or change anything:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287308380

Those are just a few. I will respond to your daily bashing by calling it what it is. These posts show that my description was 100 percent accurate.

Note that there are very few posts about Warren. Lots of polls -- I find polls interesting, and always have. Lots on Biden. Some posts about other candidates, including alerts when they're going to be on TV.

Yes, I posted an LOL message at the news Warren was finally going to come up with a funding plan for MFA, because for months here I'd been told by Warren supporters that she shouldn't, that she should just keep on being evasive. I thought it was an untenable position for her, and it turned out to be, and yes, I had to laugh then.

And I posted on some of the reactions to the funding plan she finally came out with.

There was no OP about an "editorial from the RW Wall Street Journal" -- you've misrepresented that. There was a column by a liberal Democrat who's been cited in other DU posts, a man who worked for the Clinton admin and for the Gore and Mondale campaigns.

And yes, I posted about Hillary Clinton's opinion of Warren's proposals. I supported Clinton in 2016. I think her opinion of those proposals' feasibility, like Pelosi's opinion, is relevant. I'm not going to apologize for posting about that.

Yes, I posted about what Paul Krugman said about Warren's MFA funding plan. I read both his tweets and his column, the day they appeared, and I quoted both. You very sleazily suggest that maybe you can't trust what I quoted because of the paywall. Check with someone else who can see the story if you don't trust me. Or sign up at the Times and read it yourself.

That's a new low, accusing me of faking excerpts I quote.

There have been countless attacks on Biden, and Biden supporters, here. And there have been attacks on Biden from Warren.

I'm not going to apologize for responding in a small fraction of the OPs I post here.

43. Of course that doesn't disprove my point

That you regularly post threads bashing Warren, from dubious sources The ones I listed show it. If I went back seven months and did more searches I have no doubt I would find many, many more. Just yesterday you posted two snarky comments in another thread belittling Warren and her supporters after falsely accusing me of doing that to Pete. Of course I didn't expect you to apologize. Not after looking at your posting history.

23. Wrong on both counts

I don't bash Biden, I use trusted non-RW sources to point out his flaws as a candidate. This post is from a Wall St. big money guy, the type that have brought uswhere we are as far as economic inequality and who do not want Warren because she threatnes their stranglehold on our country.

And I will point out the source of materials like that every time so too bad if you don't like the facts. BTW, you're the guy who repeats the false talking point about Warren not winning the midwest over and over when polls show the oposite. Try supporting your candidate with facts and you will be on better ground.

25. It is bashing and it was kind of ironic today with some supporter all worried about how Something

Biden said could harm Warren if she gets to a general...but they have no concern about how some of the stuff they post could harm Biden if he is our candidate. You can call what you post anything you like...don't care. Except for one time when I posted an article about Harris that I regret, I have bashed no candidate just opined on whether they could win a general or not...and I will support any candidate in the general. My conscience will be clear no matter what happens. And the 'poll' I assume you are talking about the kaiser survey? You regard that as proof that Warren is winning the Mid West? It isn't a poll but a paid survey with less than 500 responses per state...real polls show Biden is winning the mid West...and I will say it again Biden will win the three states we need. WI, MI and PA...Warren will not win these states. She will win the popular vote IMHO but lose the electoral college. That being said she has my vote and support of course... in the general.

Bidens plan is 'Superior', but it's not. Why not explain to people why you think Bidens plan is better than the others instead of posting things like this? Looks like you just want to start problems between the Harris supporters and the Warren supporters.

12. I've posted a lot already about why I believe MFA would be a disaster in the GE, why the public

option is better.

I posted this OP because after a lot of posts (and a lot of time in the debates) with people who back MFA bashing anyone who doesn't support it, it's good to see MFA being evaluated critically. And that includes comments by the candidates who don't support it. Like Harris, or Klobuchar, or Buttigieg, or Biden.

I posted links to detailed analyses of Biden's plan back in July. That OP got exactly one reply from a Biden supporter:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287215887

As I said there, I'd found the first of the detailed analyses courtesy of a tweet from Paul Krugman, who said that Biden's plan was "actually pretty good. It would go a long way toward achieving truly universal coverage, and its public option would definitely reduce the power of the insurance industry."

20. Kamala is the one who said this.. Not the OP.

.. why are you scolding her? Are we not suppose to see this news?

Harris: My Plan is So 'Superior' To Warren's MFA That 'I Don't Feel the Need' to Take it Apart

“I’m not taking away people’s private plan options,” Harris replied, adding that “I supported Medicare for all at the beginning of the process, and I heard from people. And they said, we want choice.”

https://www.mediaite.com/news/kamala-harris-my-plan-is-so-superior-to-warrens-medicare-for-all-that-i-dont-feel-the-need-to-take-it-apart/

Oh and Hillary said this about mfa.. More "problems"?

Warren's Medicare for All plan wouldn't ever get enacted

21. What I see is another

attempt to go after Warren using what Harris said when asked about her plan. Sorry, but I call them as I see them, and I see a lot of attacks going on these days instead if posting positive things about ones choice of candidates.

Obama doesn't seem to have a problem with Medicare for all. Now I agree it has to be done right, and I am not a fan of Bernies plan, which was Warrens plan to begin with. I also agree we need to know where the money is coming from, no matter who's plan it is. In the end the voters will make the choice about who has the better plans.

This back and forth name calling between Joe and Warren isn't helping. Just my opinion.

It's a valid OP and I'm glad to see what Kamala had to say about.

30. The OP presented a news story about what Harris had to say, which was actually not an attack

on Warren, but simply a statement that her own plan was superior. The OP did not “use” the story one way or another.

We don’t know that Obama would have “no problem” with Warren’s iteration of M4All. Maybe he, like Harris, has listened to people who want to keep their employer and retirement benefits-provided plans since he mentioned M4All some time ago.

We don’t know if he, like many others, would question her cost analysis and wealth-tax.

Last edited Thu Nov 7, 2019, 05:48 PM - Edit history (1)

is a huge and unnecessary undertaking...you could build on the ACA...Giving insurance to everyone whether they want it or not will cause us to lose the 20 election and would cost a fortune...we have the ACA build on it. Also, there is no way we will ever pass M4A....and we could lose the ACA in the attempt. Already Warren's plan is being used by Fox news to attack the ACA which we won the midterms with ...and Virginia and Kentucky too...also why should we adopt a almost 100 year old plan with significant problems in terms of what is covered. We can do better.
