Joe BidenCongratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!

Will Hillary make an endorsement for the Primaries? And if she does, what may be the implications?

I would especially like to hear from Warren supporters, since I suspect many of you are former Hillary backers. Or perhaps I am wrong on this one. Either way, I would like to know what you think.

1. I think it's a lose-lose proposition for any major national Dem figure to endorse in the

primaries. I think that the Obamas are smart to stay out of the primaries; I hope that the Clintons will be wise enough to do so, too.

2. Suspect Clinton will stay out of primaries, although

I can’t see her endorsing Warren - other than as the party’s nominee. Warren was too critical of Obama and Clinton over TPP leading up to 2016 election. That cost us votes.

Clinton and Obama might say nice things about Biden, but not outright endorse him over other candidates.

14. Interesting that you would so

categorically state that you can't see her endorsing Warren when, by some reports, Hillary considered Warren as a running mate in 2016.

But no, she will NOT endorse anyone in the primaries. So you're right about that.

There are also reports that she and Warren have gotten their heads together for the 2020 campaign. I really cannot see that as other than the kind of advice that Hillary would give any other candidate who asked, however, and take it in no respect as an endorsement.

But why are you so eager to put down Warren that you take any opportunity to do so?

Think about it.

18. Because Warren is not best candidate for General Election, and I believe her criticism

of Obama and Clinton over the TPP right up to the 2016 election helped give us trump (yes, there were other factors too).

Her "Economic Patriotism "-- she's espousing now -- is just a slightly tamer version of "America First" treating foreign workers as scabs.

And, she caved to lobbyists for the Massachusetts' medical device manufacturers, damaging the ACA and Obama's belief that those who profit from healthcare should help pay for it.

It's really that simple.

You asked . . . . . .

19. You're entitled to

your opinion about who is the best candidate for the GE, of course, but I respectfully agree to disagree.

IMO, she IS the best candidate for the GE. Hands down!

Her "economic patriotism" is NOT "America First" a la Trump, nor merely a watered down version, but a comprehensively thought-out plan, subject to revision. She is a pragmatist first.

See, e.g., https://www.voanews.com/usa/us-politics/elizabeth-warrens-detailed-economic-plan-could-shape-2020-election

From the link:

...
Her “Economic Patriotism” plan in some ways echoes President Trump’s “America First” rhetoric to protect jobs and industries in the U.S. However, unlike the president, who has mostly employed unilateral tariffs to help U.S. companies compete, and whose signature legislative achievement was a corporate tax cut to stimulate economic growth, Warren proposes increasing taxes on the rich, restricting corporate power and using government intervention to spur job creation and increase wages. [Emphasis mine.]

Warren’s proposals include:

- Taxing the ultra-rich and big corporations. Individuals and families earning between $50 million and $1 billion would pay an extra 2% in federal taxes that would increase to 3% for those making even more. Her campaign says this tax would bring in $2.75 trillion over 10 years. Corporations would also pay an additional 7% tax on profits above $100 million.
- Trade deals that focus on workers, transparency and human rights. Warren lists a number of trade pre-conditions including human and labor rights, and said any agreement must protect domestic industries. Warren has criticized Trump’s tariffs as “reckless” but has indicated she might impose similar measures as part of a “coherent trade policy.”
- Breaking up big tech companies. Warren justifies the need to increase competition and innovation in this field by noting that nearly half of all e-commerce in the U.S. goes through Amazon and more than 70% of all Internet traffic goes through sites owned or operated by Google or Facebook.
- Creating a new Department of Economic Development focused on jobs that would consolidate business-oriented federal government agencies. The new department would closely regulate U.S. corporations and greatly expand federal training programs. It would also boost research and development spending to help American workers and U.S. technology compete in the global marketplace.
- Requiring corporations to obtain a federal charter legally obligating the companies to serve the greater public interest, rather than chase short-term profits.
- Mandating corporations give workers representation on boards of stakeholders, and mandating that 75% of stakeholders approve all political contributions.
- Requiring the U.S. government to buy American-made products whenever possible, to use billions of dollars in federal spending to develop domestic industries.
- Devaluing the U.S. dollar to in increase U.S. exports.

Warren also supports the “Medicare For All” plan, first proposed by rival Democratic candidate Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, that would provide government funded health care to all Americans, and a plan to make public colleges free.

In addition, she has endorsed the Green New Deal to end U.S. dependency on fossil fuels, which was introduced by New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive firebrand. In addition, Warren has proposed investing $2 trillion in federal funding to develop renewable energy programs. She also would direct the U.S. military, the single largest government consumer of energy, to reduce carbon emissions. ...

******************
If anything, her proposal to devalue the USD would hurt people like ME (US expats), the majority of whose assets, pension and social security income are in USD. Yet I STILL support her because I believe that the ideas she proposes are best for us all.

If, as you asserts, she "caved" to lobbyists (please provide a cite from a reputable source rather than mere assertion and that SHE was the ONLY one in that particular instance to do so), that may be exactly why she has pledged NOT to take money from lobbyists now.

There is NO candidate currently running who is or has been in public office who is not susceptible to the charge of caving to outside pressure, whether from lobbyists or from GOPers. I am able to provide several cites from reputable sources to show that, but choose NOT to.

*****************
PLEASE do NOT use DU to slur our Dem candidates, especially those who are currently most likely to be selected as the GE candidate! That is a no-win game. I saw enough slurs and smears used against Hillary Clinton in 2016 by self-styled Dems and am in no mood to put up with any of that again.

Maybe Warren should have heeded your advice by not criticizing Obama and Clinton over global trade right before 2016 election.

21. Do you really think that's what lost the election?

I would like to remind you that Hillary had nearly three million more votes and had suffered LOTS of slurs, smears and lies ... and Russian bots throughout BOTH the primary and GE, as well as other GOPer cheating.

But yes, it's all Warren's fault that Trump "won."

She holds no office, although she should be in the White House. She's not running for any office, either. Like all the rest of us, she's a private citizen, so she can do as she pleases.

I see no reason for her not to endorse a candidates, if there's one she thinks would be best.
