CNBC: Bernie Sanders on Political Revolution

Last edited Tue Oct 29, 2019, 11:37 AM - Edit history (1)

Bernie Sanders: (snip) At this particular moment in history — where the average worker has not seen a real inflation accounted for wage increase in 45 years despite an explosion of technology and productivity, where you have a political system which is totally corrupt and owned by billionaires, where you have massive amounts of corporate corruption, I think the time is now, if we’re going to save this country, for a political revolution.

It’s not just more regulation. It’s about involving millions of people, working people, young people, people who believe in justice, in the political process, to tell the corporate elite that enough is enough. We’re going to change the system politically, economically. We’re going to change the value system of this country. We’re not going to worship corrupt billionaires anymore, we’re going to respect teachers and child care workers and cops and firefighters and small business people. That’s what our campaign, uniquely I believe, is about.

(snip) There was a guy who was head of Third Way, the corporate wing of the Democratic Party. He said, “Bernie Sanders is an existential threat to the Democratic Party.” I agree with him. I am. I want to convert the Democratic Party, to break its dependency on big money and corporate interests, and make it a party of working-class people, of young people, of all people who believe in justice.

(snip) You talk about the fact that nothing much really big ever happens. And there’s truth to that. But what you’re missing is that right now you have a Congress and a White House that are dominated by a corporate elite who have unbelievable amounts of money and influence over the political and economic life of this country. I’m not going to be dominated by those guys. I will take them on and I’ll beat them.

too strong for many, which is too bad because his basic message is spot on. I for one am glad he's taking on the political system. It's been needed for quite some time. I'm also glad he's not the only Democratic candidate taking it on. It gives me hope that we might actually make some real headway for the economic welfare of our children and grandchildren.

but I find Sanders to be confusing politician. He is really not interested in ideology. So, take Reaganism for example, Bernie would say, I think, it doesn't matter what those propositions maybe, you only need to look at who is backing it - big corporate money which, whatever conservative pretensions of small government may be, is actually directed at owning government decisions. Forget the theory, follow the money.

Bernie says lots of stuff that folks can vaguely agree with.

I mean... he's right.... our economy does NOT serve the people. The economic elite DO dominate the country.

But now what? His plan always seems to involve waving his hands and declaring that a revolution will happen. Okay. But how? Right now, he can't even convince a plurality of folks who might loosely support his positions.

Bashing everyone including Democrats as "totally" corrupt.

Why is this man, who actually (really!) asked the superdelegates to set aside the will of Democratic voters to make HIM the nominee, again claiming it's WE who are corrupt?

I agree with him that we need to raise our standards -- for the behavior of those we allow to represent our party by running under our party name.

Sanders, I do NOT support corrupt politicians, I do not support politicians who claim I and those I vote for are corrupt, I do not support those who claim, at virtually every public appearance, that I'm little different from Republicans, and of course I do not support you.

As I understand it, sanders wants new voters to rise up and force the GOP to be reasonable and adopt his program. How many new voters is required for this to occur? Where will these new voters come from? Why have these new voters not shown up after 30+ years of sanders calling for this revolution?

When The People hear Bernie explain about inequality and the rigged system, their eyes will be opened and they will rally. The rallies will force "Establishment Democrats" and Republicans to be progressive. The end. That's all the plan is. Rallies. And the only reason why this has not happened is conspiracies to prevent The People from hearing his message. If only he could get on TV or use social media and publish books and use YouTube and emails and travel around the country to get his message out! LOL.
