Axios interview with Kamala Harris: "Of course" it's different to run for president as a black woman

New from Kamala on @axios

“When there is not a reference point for who can do what, there is a difficulty in imagining that someone who we have never seen can do a job that has been done 45 times by someone who is not that person.”

However I don’t think race and gender are the reason her campaign and standing have been the most disappointing of the primary season.

Barack Obama was elected to the Presidency twice. Hillary Clinton won the nomination in 2016. Currently, although not running, Michelle Obama easily beats everyone in the field according to the most recent polling. Right now Elizabeth Warren is leading the pack for 2020. And she came from way back in the field to earn her front runner status.

Race and gender are not the reason in this particular case that her campaign is failing.

She sounds desperate to me.

Do not use Barrack Obama’s election, and especially Hillary Clinton’s nomination to erase the possibility sexism and racism are not factors in the experience of a African American women.

Please.

Kamala Harris hasn’t caught fire with the public, this is true. Racism and sexism aren’t the ONLY factors, but they definitely are there. She has been erased in a very specific way with the media. There are many factors. She is not the front runner with the larger Black community either. Joe Biden is.

It’s sounds like we have a lot of agreement.

We both agree that race and gender are not the PRIMARY reasons why her campaign has floundered.

If we were to look at secondary causes and beyond, that is a different topic from what my post was addressing.

White people of all stripes accepted Obama because he met them where they were: for liberals, he was the man who would finally prove they weren’t racist; for conservatives, he was the man who said they never would have to think about race again. (As he knew full well.) Kamala isn’t offering the same payoff. She doesn’t come with a free prize, and she doesn’t let the media get away with digging out their old Obama notes to cover her. As she told Goodyear, she’s not continuing Obama’s legacy—she has her own. If the media will let her.

Not "as a black woman." No one will win on that score. No woman is going to win because "it's time for a woman." Show you are the best one for the job, like Obama did.

Are we really going back to this?

No woman is going to win because "it's time for a woman."
Who, actually, is saying that?

BTW, I see people on this board and elsewhere arguing that we have to nominate a white man because he is the only one who can beat Trump. In other words, "it's time for a man."

I also get sick of the idea only a white man can beat trump. It's just insane to say such a thing. At least Joe, when asked who else can beat trump, said "they all can"! Too bad so many here can't get that.

Harris is first on my list, and Amy Klobuchar and Warren on next. I will vote for whoever wins, but would really love to see a women in the WH, and a women kicking trump out of the WH!
