Rep. Tulsi Gabbard says impeachment of Trump would be 'terribly divisive' for country

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287292152#top

Gabbard "..some have been "looking for a reason to impeach Trump because they did not want to accept the outcome of the 2016 election"

Think about that..

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

No one is talking about impeachment lightly. It’s taken seriously. And like speaker Pelosi said, Trump impeaches himself with his actions.

45. It's funny how the tide has turned...

I made a comment several months ago about Tulsi Gabbard being a Russian stooge. AND THEN had my comment removed for a DU violation.
Now look at the commentary when DUers FINALLY see the truth about her.
I have a certain amount of Schadenfreude right now....

with Tulsi is ridiculous. She isn't going to be the nominee. I think some on here must literally sit at home all day, read tweets and watch cable tv. I mean, come on. No reason to continue this. She is an elected Democratic official from her state. She does have supporters we may need in 2020. I think enough of you have made your point. lol

10. The OP is a Democrat from Hawaii which is a small state

and only has two representatives. Interest in one's elected officials, especially when they are in the national news, is not an "obsession".

Whether or not a candidate is going to be the nominee is immaterial in this instance because the discussion concerns the dangerous possibility of a third party spoiler cultivated by the Russians.

paid caller that i saw. caller to limbaugh pretending to be 'progressive' (liberals only get through by deception) and then today limnbo lied that hillary clinton called her a russian 'agent' - not the same as an 'asset'.

it's possibel limboi doesn't know he's an asset but if he has been getting paid for the kind of crap he did to push mccain to pick palin, or selling 'climategate' in 2009, or pushing debt default in 2011 (why would american billionaires want that?), wouldn't he be more of an agent - for someone?

some of her support is suspect

131. I'd like her to be obscure and go away... but I'm torn.

If the Russians are actively trying to disrupt the Democratic Party by pushing a candidate, I sure want to know. I do understand that a candidate can't always choose their supporters-- I mean, David Duke will endorse you whether you want it or not-- but if it happens, first, frankly, a truly loyal candidate would withdraw rather than allow the Russians in to the campaign. (Or at least loudly denounce it.)

We just need to be aware of how drastically the Russians want to interfere. It's so weird that for all those years of the USSR, there was this constant fear of "communist infiltration." There were powerful indications, for example, that the CIA was riddled with infiltrators. And it wasn't until Russia wasn't communist that they actually managed to infiltrate the White House.

3. HRC wants the Democrats to win the WH in 2020.

She did this smart, and she did this early. She also did it in a week when Tulsi was already playing games, and the New York Times was already scrutinizing motives.

What, Exactly, Is Tulsi Gabbard Up To?

As she injects chaos into the 2020 Democratic primary by accusing her own party of “rigging” the election, an array of alt-right internet stars, white nationalists and Russians have praised her.

claiming that Clinton was not referring to Gabbard and that Gabbard fucked up by taking offense.

And now it appears that some of the same people making that claim are also claiming that Clinton’s targeting of Gabbard was brilliant.

Hard to reconcile both of those positions from the same people.

The Rag Lobster guy is potentially the most toxic Dem with a large following on Twitter as a whole. Worse than a good portion of MAGA twitter I've had the displeasure of reading.

Might not be textbook sexual abuse, but it is abusing women sexually:
Content warning: sexually threatening language

Dehumanizing WOC, sexually abusive messages, misogynistic vitriol:
same content warning as above

even more misogyny:

not sure if this is supposed to be a joke, but it's disgusting:
CW: ableism, abuse to children

CW: dehumanizing women & POC AGAIN

He gives Democrats a bad name, and Republicans can excuse their own toxicity if they can point to speech like this. Kinda hoping he gets banned before the general election considering we need to be able to crucify Trump for his hateful rhetoric.

22. Gabbard: impeachment has been "used as a partisan talking point"

No. Not really.

Either Trump committed high crimes and misdemeanors or he didn't.

The Constitution doesn't say that is a partisan question.

If Trump obstructed justice as Mueller found, Trump should be impeached.

If Trump withheld aid from Ukraine until they manufactured dirt on his most likely 2020 opponent, Trump should be impeached.

If Trump's hotels took money for empty rooms from foreigners, Trump should be impeached.

Etc.

It is not a partisan question. Either Trump is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors or he isn't.

The Republican's would love to hide their corrupt President behind the skirts of partisanship but that is not what the Constitution directs.

Tulsi is just another little pimple on the arse of progress.

Yes, I am glad that her supporters have been outed. We need to beware of anything that would interfere with a strong campaign for our chosen Democratic Party candidate.

But we should keep in mind that her anti war, anti imperialist message resonates with a growing number of Americans. We simply cannot afford guns at the cost of butter any longer! Anti war sentiment in this country is a growing force and she has ridden that wave. We need a Democratic Party candidate who understands this. This idea has POWER!

Now they just sound like right wing talking points. Who actually gets us into wars?? Guess what we can't afford? Tax cuts for the wealthy-an alarmingly inflated deficit. How about responsible leadership and a sane budget, instead of slogans that are devised to carve a niche without facts. Govt that functions for the people. That has POWER. It's just longer and takes reading comprehension. FFS- guns at the cost of butter?? Are we in 1943? How about guns at the cost of health care, roads, etc.. Let's not focus on the real risks of the current administration-let's just make shit up. I apologize for seeming acidic.

Amy Klobuchar never said a word. Elizabeth Warren? Crickets. Tulsi, who's a Dino to begin with, is the only one who took it personally. Not tough to figure out why. If candidate contact with Assad is disqualifying, what about contact with other leaders, such as Saudi Arabia's Mr. Bone Saw or Israel's Netanyahu?

She was already running as if in the general election, running against Democrats. She might appeal to disgruntled Trump voters in swing states, especially military, who might be considering voting for the Democrat but don't really want to. Her physical attractiveness is a plus, and she obviously lives in CT World, repeating misinformation about Harris in the debates, calling Hillary a corrupt warmonger.

We now understand who she is representing and what her purpose is. Her mission is to divide and conquer. From here on, she is dead to me as though she never existed, and I will speak of her no more.

I hope my fellow Americans of good will also will fail to acknowledge her or discuss her as well.

Her intentions for our country are not honerable, and she is not worthy of our time or regard.

81. Hoarse Whisperer also was a principal first driver in the lie

that AOC set up and was attacking Pelosi at that climate protest near her office, when all AOC did was show up for a brief spell and said that they were there to have Pelosi's back. I have taken anything they say with a grain of salt since then.

I am NOT btw, defending Gabbard. She is very problematic and I so hope she is defeated in the primary for her Congressional seat.

And Hoarse can go fuck himself as can the original tweeter Greg Olear of that Buttigieg smear attempt. It is like the goddamn McCarthy era fear mongering. What a piece of of shit.

Greg Olear is really a fucking asshole, he pushes the anti-Biden slander line, calling him 'Handsy Magee', slamming him hard for ages.

agrees with what you just said and/or they said it was politically very, very poor optics wise too. I am sure there are others (Clinton surrogates do not count as they will automatically defend it all) who disagree with that majority, but I saw little of that so far. Maybe the tide will turn today the whole thing will be praised.

Greg Olear is a vile POS. Still aggro over that Buttigieg smear and that Biden smear of his.

89. When I pointed out that TG was one of the few members of who voted against the Magnitsky Act..

The law was signed by President Barack Obama on December 14, 2012. In 2016, Congress enacted the Global Magnitsky Act, which allows the US government to sanction foreign government officials implicated in human rights abuses anywhere in the world.

The Origin..

The origin

The law is named after Sergei Magnitsky, a Russian lawyer and auditor who in 2008 untangled a dense web of tax fraud and graft involving 23 companies and a total of $230 million linked to the Kremlin and individuals close to the government. Magnitsky was the target of investigations, arrested by authorities and kept in jail without charges. He was beaten and later died under mysterious circumstances in jail just days before his possible release.
