(2,275 posts)There's a smear campaign going on regarding Gabbard. Her LGBTQ stance is actually quite progressive. She has evolved along with the rest of the mainstream Democrats. Hillary Clinton voted against gay marriage too (by voting FOR the Defense of Marriage Act, DOMA).
Gabbard is for all of the things the progressives of the Democratic Party are for. She's as forthright as Warren, Sanders, etc.

(309,663 posts)on about Gabbard. She outed herself going all paranoid and ballistic on Hillary and then Running to White Nationalist Tucker's fox show to Whine about it.

If you chose to believe that.. it's your problem.
The people of Hawaii are helping Kai Kahele now..
But local insiders say a primary challenge from state Sen. Kai Kahele is to be taken seriously, in part because he already has high-profile support among towering local officials.
That includes three former governors in the local Democratic establishment: Neil Abercrombie, Ben Cayetano and John Waihee, who don't often appear as a bloc.
"That gives a pretty good indication of how the mainstream Democratic Party here regards her," said Colin Moore, director of the Public Policy Center at the University of Hawaii.
Kahele told CNN on Monday that his campaign had its best day of fundraising when Gabbard and Clinton clashed.
Gabbard has not formally announced a reelection bid for her House seat. Candidates have until June 2, 2020, to file for that November's election.

(2,275 posts)This is all smoke. And you know what? It does start to suggest an establishment vs new progressive paradigm conflict. I wish the "establishment" would hurry up and start focusing on the issues, not their "in" candidates: inequality issues, US war/oil machine, global warming issues.
If there's anything to factually substantiate funding coming in from Russians, Saudis, China, oil magnates, etc., a good journalist would take that seriously and investigate. (And that applies to Gabbard, Biden, Warren, Buttigieg and everyone else currently running). So far all I've seen is smoke and no fire. The Rolling Stones article says the same.
Just trying to do due diligence. I'll gladly accept good evidence. But not innuendo.

(42,862 posts)I understand she "withdrew" them but I get the feeling many perceived it as being a "wink-wink" type of insincerity and only done due to political pressure, and it was simply the expedient thing to do in order to make the criticism go away. Yet in the meantime (apparently) she's been silent or absent on issues that matter to the LGBTQ community.
All I'm saying is that actions speak louder than words. Anyone can say what's "needed" or expected in the moment, but what they do afterward is just as important (and revealing) as well.
