Was anyone else bothered by Biden's "clipping coupons in the stock market" line?

Where did that come from? As far as I've seen, that odd line from the debate has not been discussed here.

It was ignored by the other candidates (as it should have been, as they tried to stay focussed on issues of substance). But if he had said that line in a debate with Trump, I bet Trump would have hammered him on it, and the whole election could turn on something like that.

This is my biggest fear in ending up with Trump and Biden together on the debate stage, and why I have a hard time seeing Biden as our "most electable" option. I worry about his ability to be able to speak off-script for any length of time without veering into something incoherent at some point... and Trump will go to town on him when it happens. I don't relish the idea of watching those debates with my fingers crossed that our candidate doesn't say something that makes you scratch your head.

Warren, Buttigieg, Sanders, Harris, Klobuchar, whoever... you may agree or disagree with this policy or that, but none is likely to say anything that will make you cringe. I don't have that faith in Biden. Do Biden supporters see it differently? Or do they think it doesn't matter?

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

And clipping bond coupons was a thing in the olden days.

That's what you did (clipping a coupon) to redeem the bond payout at a scheduled time.

I don't have any idea if they still do that. I guess that just shows how ancient I am.

Here is an article about coupon bonds (bearer bonds without traceable registration, that you get your payout of interrest by clipping the appropriate coupon, mailing it in to the issuer, and then the issuer paid you a check).

enough to hand him a victory over Biden or why go to the trouble he has to attack Biden?

Biden has consistently, from launch, brought the fight to Trump in a way no other candidate has.

Doubt Trump would even debate Biden.

Biden can talk circles around him on FP. He did a pretty good job too challenging Warren this last debate. Biden has wide appeal nationally. His natural likability will shine next to fat boy’s natural ugly.

Hoping Warren changes her M4All stance if she does go forward because Trump will clobber her with that alone, much less the twenty five other investment intensive plans she has tied herself to.

Ironic.

John Kerry always believed he was part Irish. His mother didn’t tell him his father’s father was hiding his Jewish ancestry from bigotry of the day and later became a Catholic. He committed suicide later in life. The family would never talk about it and everyone assumed they had Irish ancestry. Kerry was in his 60s when he learned the truth. If Republicans labeled him a liar for it, would you condemn him for all the years he believed he had Irish ancestry?

Although i have a problem with the 40% capital gains rate. Long term gains should be taxed at a lower rate. Short term already is taxed at the regular income rate

56. You would think that our candidate would have a clear advantage of coherence over Trump

Trump is sheer nonsense all the time. Putting a candidate up there on stage with him who talks in word salad because he seems to be rushing or cannot maintain a clear train of thought would seem to lessen that advantage considerably.

Like he had practiced the lines beforehand, got mixed up, then ditched it mid-sentence, but I’d have to watch it again to check. I think it feels like these comments are attacks on him for Biden supporters, but I am concerned that he’s not up for the rigor of presidency.
