Joe BidenCongratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!

Thu Oct 17, 2019, 12:15 PM

Sen Warren is cut from the same cloth as Speaker Pelosi.

Whip smart, tough, able to take a blow, speaks truth to power.

I like Liz. I think her strengths and positives far outweigh any shortcomings.

The photo of our Speaker standing at the table, spine straight, answers and comments honorable,
has made an indelible impression that will live in history.

That photo conveys authority. The authority of a woman confidently conveying strength.

5. It's Sen Warren's race to run, she will resonate with voters or not. But to question her

political instincts is puzzling. She did what no other Senator even thought of doing, she created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a bureau that overwhelmingly protects consumers against predatory banks and credit card companies.

She refuses to shoot herself in the foot during a debate format that does not allow for detailed, extensive, in depth answers.

I believe those who demand she answer yes or no have fallen into the trap of the detractors who wait in the wings to launch negative talking points.

She will pull it off or not. She has my 100% support. If she becomes the nominee, then its safe to say millions agree she is the right person for the time.

41. I don't know whether I would reach that conclusion yet.

Sometimes you have to corner people before they will seriously make concessions. If Senator Warren is our nominee and it becomes clear that she is going to beat Trump or Pence, you better believe the elite will start thinking about what they can give up, and insurance companies will start thinking about how to better and fairly insure all Americans. Why? They will need chips to bring to the bargaining table, they knowing that the dealer won't be giving up anything if something bigger is not offered.

6. Warren's tough. But I don't see her as having Pelosi's strength, experience and

temperament.

Maybe someday, but not yet.

I don't feel Warren comes across as having the strength HRC showed, either. But again, very different levels of experience in politics and world affairs. Decades in academia probably isn't the best experience for an aspiring commander-in-chief.

Warren's bright and talented. She's running a good campaign.

But Pelosi is a past master at politics.

I liked what she said outside the White House yesterday after they told the press that Trump had called Pelosi a third-rate politician.

Pelosi said she'd told Trump she wished he was a politician so he understood the art of the possible.

Politics is the art of the possible.

That's why Pelosi's so good at it...even though she often gets hammered even by Democrats who don't think she's moving fast enough or far enough.

That full quote on politics from Otto von Bismark is:

Politics is the art of the possible, the attainable -- the art of the next best.

That's something most experienced politicians know.

Nancy Pelosi knows it.

Hillary Clinton knows it.

Joe Biden knows it.

I don't think Warren really understands it, judging by how quick she is to criticize rivals for talking about policy goals that are attainable.

But again, she hasn't spent as much time in politics.

And there are lots of Democrats who scorn that approach to politics (even though it's the one that usually works best). And those are the Democrats Warren is appealing to.

9. I disagree. She totally understands the complicated economics that make up our country.

She created and wrote the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau. It was a rock solid effort that was ranked by Trump the moment he took over.

It certainly was not a “feel good” effort on her part.

There are hundreds of thousands of Americans with no affordable means to health care.
Sen Warren knows full well it’s a heavy lift but to think big means you have given lots of room to negotiate. But those Americans need our help. They are dying waiting.

18. Huh? She's Devoting Resources to Dems All Over The Country!

A new memo sent to supporters on Tuesday from Warren’s campaign manager Roger Lau details a series of investments on state directors and organizers for states that vote and caucus in March. The campaign, Lau writes, is devoting these resources not just to boost Warren ahead of primary voting but to assist Democrats in marquee Senate, House, and state legislative contests in 2020. On the target list Lau offered was Maine, where Collins is facing a number of potential Democratic challengers, including Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon.

“We're hiring state directors and organizers in a number of states that have primaries and caucuses in March. And we're targeting our resources to invest in places that will be critical to keeping the House, taking back the U.S. Senate, and regaining ground in key state legislatures in 2020,” Lau wrote. “That includes states like Illinois and California, where Democrats won a whole bunch of House seats in 2018 in close elections that we'll need to defend. It also includes states like Maine, which has a competitive Senate race and Georgia, where there will be two Senate seats up for election.”
...
“Remember: this election is about more than just beating Donald Trump—he's just the worst symptom of a corrupt system,” Lau wrote, describing the plans. “If we want to make big, structural change, we need to make sure Democrats control the U.S. House and Senate and win important gubernatorial and state legislative races across the country.”

In his memo, Lau also said that the campaign was going to devote resources to flipping state legislatures in Michigan and Minnesota and invest in Texas and Florida as well.

Nationalism is a right wing ideology. Think of folks like Steve Bannon. That's a nationalist and a populist.

Nationalists tend to tell people that things are bad for them because <enter group> is keeping them down. Said group will be immigrants, Jews, etc. They will try to sell this whole national pride/supremacy thing.

Populism on its own will generally focus on the "worker" or the "regular guy" vs the elites....media, government, CEOs.....etc.

Trade deals, for example. The populist would focus on the fat cat getting rich while the command man loses his job...the greed.

The nationalist would focus on the Chinese stealing the jobs! Or the "invaders." Etc.

of assessing the situation of not following the "everyone knows and wants" the way Warren think is about all the freebies.

She showed her craft by resisting running the 2018 campaign on Trump directly and concentrated on health care. Never about medicare for all. The winning came from many suburbanites who like their private health care plans.

And, really, until the Ukraine thing, she resisted the call for impeachment.

quite frankly, if you are looking for depth in a candidate, you will not find it in 90 a second sound bite debate.

If she makes it to the debate stage when there are only 5 or so candidates, she will either do well, or not with longer answers.

37. Unlike Biden, Pelosi Opposed The Iraq Invasion

On the losing end of a House vote of 296 to 133 to give Bush and Cheney the authority to invade Iraq. She was in direct contradiction to then-Speak Dick Gephardt.

She pointed to mounting evidence described in a CIA letter that Hussein posed no real threat to the United States - mounting evidence that Biden did not permit in the Senate hearings he personally led before voting to give Bush the authority to invade months later.

Sometimes it is more important to be on the right side of history than to do what is politically expedient in the moment.
