Wed Oct 16, 2019, 08:30 AM

Why is it a fairyland? It is not like her ideas are new, it has worked for many European countries, they have implemented what she wants to implement in the USA, there is nothing new about it, and it is working fantastically well for those countries. I have a sister who lives in one of the European countries where universal healthcare, free education is provided to its citizens, and the country is doing very well.

On the same token, everyone else is setting the bar very low and they will reach even lower giving us, once again, more of the same.

I think it is a sad state of affairs that the other candidates focused on Warren, pathetic, but I don't hear anyone complaining here as when they went after Biden.

We have a choice, we elect a candidate who is going to fight corruption from the elites and politicians, who is going to genuinely work to better the life of USA citizens, to create better opportunities for its citizens, who will try its hardest to fight against the status quo to give more to the people without the politics and false rhetoric, or we can stay with the other candidates who will give us more of the same.

many countries, those of North America, Central America and South America.

When you say "America is not Europe" you are missing the point that "CANADA", which is part of North America, has free education, universal health care, and other social programs to help society reach their dreams, not just the 1%.

So when you say "America" you are missing the point that, again, Canada which is part of North America, and thus the American continent, DOES have the same social programs as many European countries.

Please explain why the USA cannot have those social programs, such as free education and universal health care? What makes us so special that we have to struggle as a society because we don't have those benefits? Explain why it is so right for the USA to have a corrupt system where the wealthy get all the perks while the rest have to struggle with parents having to work two to three jobs to make ends meet. What makes the USA so special that families must lose everything they have due to medical costs? how special does that make the United States of America?

Wed Oct 16, 2019, 09:19 AM
Oct 2019

Who do you know that would not embrace having "Universal Healthcare", or who would reject to having their kids enjoy "Free Education", just like many of the European countries and that other country in North America (Canada) do?

Yes, people love to have to fight with insurance companies when filing claims, they love to have to pay deductibles every time they visit a doctor, they love the fact that if they need an X-Ray they first have to visit their primary Dr. so they can pay the deductible for his/her to sign a little paper for his/her assistant to send them to the X-Ray place, sometimes they don't even make the appointment for you, you have to call. People love the fact that the lobbies from the medical laboratories have managed to have politicians pass laws where your primary Dr. cannot draw blood, cannot do things they used to do, so you have to go to one of the labs.

The lie that with "Universal Healthcare" you have to wait for even an appointment? I had a bad cold, called my primary Dr. and they did not have an opening until about a month. I told the assistant, in a month I could be dead or the cold gone, she told me to go to emergency. That is what is happening in this country.

Everyone in the USA of America loves the fact that we pay, at least, five times for medicines that the rest of the World does. Sometimes even more.

The only people I can see not embracing what Warren wants to do are the pharmaceutical industry, the medical industry, the insurances, and the corrupt politicians, I can't see anyone else complaining about it.

I also thought Buttigieg went too far in attacking Beto that hard. I understand the policy disagreement, but I don't doubt for a moment that Beto is deeply impacted by El Paso and other recent shootings.

On both matters, sometimes a velvet glove (and grace) is the better course. One can still voice policy disagreements without coming off boorish.

That said, I have seen every single debate. I already feel I know the positions, but as with Obama v Clinton in years past, I won't decide my primary choice until just prior to the Colorado primary. I surely have favorites, but I feel no need to commit until I am ready to vote. Nor will I.

She was defending a policy while making a character assassination about her opponents, she should have stuck with policy comparisons.

Of course they were going to come after her policies, she is the front runner - or at least tied, no agreement was needed.

And before accusing others of making decisions based on financial support, you might want to read this. I am from MA and I know Warren was supporting the industry because it is big in MA, I wouldn't assume she would support this because someone gave her money/support but I guess everyone could be accused of nefarious motives.

He accused Biden of wanting to keep everything as it is now because he doesn't support Bernie's plan. That is a blatant lie.

The thing that I most dislike about Elizabeth Warren is that whenever she is asked about specifics, she responds with stories about people with terrible healthcare stories. We get it, the system is broken. My problem with what she and Bernie are promoting is that if their plan can't be implemented, then what? They have no fallback plan. Either it is M4A, or nothing.

This debate convinced me that I could never support Warren in the primary, when before I hadn't ruled her out.

since there was so much internet traffic that I couldn't get even DU pages to load.

I will decide when the primaries get around to my state. By then a lot of winnowing will have occurred and I will have a smaller group to select from. I listen to debates because I glean quite a bit of info about the candidates regardless of what media interprets.

The one who concerns me the most is Gabbard, I don't get a good feeling about her whenever I hear her speak, kind of triggers something that makes me cringe.*

I like that all the other women on stage made good points though I'm troubled that EW won't admit that the tax structure will require some serious tweaking and how the rise in taxes is to be expected yet allegedly offset by the benefits we would all receive. I don't get why that was so hard for her, made her sound unrealistic or incomplete in the plotting of the plan.

In the primaries, I'm not voting for any white guy. In the general, I only vote for the Democratic candidate.

That said, too early to choose.

ETA: * It's the content of her message and the ominous tone she uses in delivery. Reminds me of my elder brother threatening me during my abused childhood, the tone is threatening with an undertone of severity that implies a painful result for the wrong answer or response. I don't want anyone with that mannerism in government.

Still thoroughly disgusted with the debate format, but that's not the candidates' fault. Too much time spent on complicated issues (health care, taxes) which HAVE TO BE PASSED BY CONGRESS, not the President. They all talk as though they can just wave a magic wand as President and PRESTO. People out there who are poorly informed about how things work believe that, then are disappointed when things do not change and are turned off of the whole "Guvmint".

The best answers were the last ones, where they had to voice a vision, an inspiration as to WHY they wanted to be a leader. Unfortunately, my television went out during the last hour, then when I listened to my recording of it, the last three answerers, with Sanders, Biden, and Warren, didn't include in the recording, since they went a few minutes over time. AARRGG! I'm wondering if the debate will be retired any time. Maybe on C-Span.
