Next time you hear the lie that "Joe Biden tried to get a prosecutor fired for investigating his son", link to this:
The NABUs investigation related to the 2010-2012 period is not particularly active, Kholodnytsky added.
Hunter Biden was a director on Burismas board from 2014-2018, according to documents filed by the company in Cyprus, where it is registered.

(15,508 posts)and found nothing wrong with Hunters actions in regards to Ukrainian law. The interview played on MSNBC yesterday afternoon. Maybe - instead of being a formal, official investigation it was one guy reviewing records, asking questions so they could tell the Trump admin they had investigated.
The man pointed out several times that he had looked at Hunters actions only in regards to Ukrainian law and that if someone wanted to look at his actions from the perspective of American law that they would co-operate.

(31,261 posts)Would Hunter Biden got that job if he was not the Vice President's son? Would Ivanka Trump have gotten buttloads of Chinese patents if she was not the daughter of the US president? It's face it, their associations got them what they got. Having said that, getting a job does not make Hunter Biden corrupt (though I believe Ivanka's patents are a function of corruption, especially since she got some for things which she has ZERO expertise in the field).
What the Trump people are trying to do is muddy the water, if we act like association favoritism is not a real thing across American and world societies, then we help them. We need to focus like a laser that Hunter Biden did nothing wrong, even if he most likely got the job due to who he was.

(58,785 posts)And happy is the word for me. Doubt as to Biden's probity wouldn't allow it, but there's no lack of information about any of it or them.
Agree that the benefits of having a father with powerful friends are not something those prone should be distracted into dissatisfaction by. At all levels, children of parents with useful friends are advantaged. Instead of being offered advantageous positions by parents' friends who might be a plumber needing a trainee, owners of a couple local hardware franchises, or CEO of a small insurance company, hunter's dad's friends ran very large businesses and organizations.
Hunter's 49 now, though, with decades of drug and alcohol abuse. This is all known to their many, often chatty friends and well documented by media for a quarter century, as are his love for and loyalty to his father. With that background, it's likely the generous salary Hunter was offered to be on this particular board was especially welcome at the time. According to what I've read, the company is considered to have gotten what it paid for -- the prestige of a name of a Biden on its board and that's all. They wouldn't have expected more.
Btw, for context people should know that Biden is widely believed to be an honest and principled man. It's well known that when he first entered congress Biden decided he would never own stock and other such securities to avoid questions of impropriety as legislation affected industries and companies. That's had to cost him literal fortunes over these decades of great wealth run-up. For the same purpose, Biden and his adult sons agreed long ago that they would not discuss their own business dealings with him to avoid, amap, any question that theirs might influence him.
We have to be able to identify honorable people as much as dishonorable ones if we're going to do even a half-assed job as votes. Not being able to is a tremendous weakness.

(31,261 posts)have no idea of what decency and honor is, though in the republican primaries, I can see how they would have been honestly confused, because those qualities were lacking in that field.
Never for one second in looking at his public life have I considered Joe Biden anything other than a decent, compassionate, principled and above all, honest person. I have disagreed with him, but never on whether I saw him as untrustworthy.
