Joe BidenCongratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!

Wed Sep 18, 2019, 10:45 AM

This may prove to be a very unpopular opinion but I think its the Dem's best option

I was reading an article today showing that Biden and Warren are both building strong coalitions within the Democratic Party. Biden solidly has voters that are moderate, older, as well as large amounts of support among minorities and those in the midwest/rust belt areas. Warren is doing extremely well among younger Democrats, liberals, and those with a college education. Essentially the two major wings of the Democratic Party.

Polls still show, on average, that Biden holds a decent lead and while it is early, does extremely well against Trump. I say that if Biden is the nominee, which from where I'm standing looks like the likely outcome (I know its not guaranteed but if he is the nominee), then the Democrats run a Biden/Warren ticket in 2020. I think would unite the Democrats, Trump would be swept from office, and we achieve probably the biggest goal of our time.

I would say then Biden serves for 1 term (despite what some people say I think he is still in great shape but I don't know about him serving until he is in his mid 80's) and then the Dems run Warren in 2024. Biden does one last great thing for the country by chasing Trump out of the white house, he gets his place in history which he has definitely earned, he spends the rest of his life as the elder statesman for the country, and then Warren leads the country into the future.

Again, I'm sure most people will stick their noses up at the idea of Warren not being the nominee in 2020 or Biden not serving two terms, depending on which side you are on but I think long term that would be the perfect scenario for the Democrats and this country.

1. Logic ...

is not most people's and no political party's long suit. No matter how much sense this makes, it won't happen.

2. I wouldn't mind this, though of course you don't 'run on that plan' ...

Think it'd be a great ticket.

The opposite would as well ...

3. Na, don't run on it

But after a year or two in office then let everyone know he isn't running for reelection and as VP, Warren has a 99.99% chance of being the nominee in 2024.

4. no way Biden does this and I don't think Warren accepts

they are simply fundamentally different on too many issues.
She'd be forced to compromise her principles too much, and Biden wouldn't be able to trust that she would go out and fight for his priorities.

Not a knock on either person, it's just not a good fit.

10. I disagree

Warren was willing to be Hillary's VP in 2016 if asked and Hillary is probably closer in line to Biden than to Warren on views. I think if we got through the primaries and it was clear that she was not going to be the nominee that taking the VP spot wouldn't be an issue.

5. The idea of having EW or a younger progressive VP works. And, hopefully it it the right person we

May indeed have several years of a progressive dem prez

not sure at all that EW is willing to take up the VP, but we’ll see

7. I think she would if it was clear she couldn't win the presidential nomination

I'm not talking about her dropping out tomorrow and joining forces with Biden. If it becomes clear that Biden will win the nomination and she has no path, I think she would gladly accept the number 2 spot, especially if there was an understanding that Biden wouldn't run again in 2024. Lots and lots and lots of "ifs" but not entirely improbable.

6. What's the rush? I'd like to see a primary or two. I am almost certainly supporting Warren as I

feel she will make a great president. Don't competing coalitions among candidates get these things straightened out?

I know you are floating this idea in good faith, hoping to coalesce two highly laudable leading candidates' strengths. But before we consider this, let's hear more. Also, strange things can happen because of Trump's instability. I shudder to think what they may be...

8. Of course let the primaries happen...

...I'm not suggesting she drops out right now and endorses Biden. Its still 4 and a half months until the primaries start. A lot of unknown factors.

This would be my dream scenario where Biden wins the primaries and then picks Warren as his number 2 and then he doesn't run again in 2024. But yes, let the people have their say. If the dems pick Warren for 2020 as the president, I am good with that too. Not ideal in my opinion but still quite good.

9. Honestly, I think a Biden/Warren ticket opens us to the same criticisms we'd get if Warren were

head of ticket:

-- She supports Medicare-for-All even though polls and logic say it's not voters' preference (even if it is best long-term);

--She promises way too much than can be delivered (although worthy ideals) and the taxes needed to pay for those is more than people will accept, even if most of it supposedly falls on the wealthy;

--Her "Economic Patriotism" and views on trade -- while not mean-spirited like trump -- is still America First ideology that will not play well globally;

--More.

I wish Harris or Klobuchar were doing better. They'd be perfect. In fact, they were my choice for nomination, but they just haven't gained traction.

But, it's still early. At least where I live, it will be March 2020 before I have to decide.

12. OK, let's go thru these:

Medicare for All. As long as we work out how voters with great health insurance can not feel something has been taken away from them, we can succeed. We can't figure that out?

I don't think she over-promises. She has done her homework. We have to fight for it in Congress, she can't do this alone.

As I read it, her plan for economic patriotism is going to be hard to accomplish, but who said change is ever easy? She promises a fight, not a surrender in this struggle. I prefer a fight to more of the same.

The other candidates we are still considering may be in her "brain trust" after he election. These are good people (altho I am having issues with Castro) with good ideas. We will need them and their voices going forward. I feel confident Warren will deliver on that goal.

I am eagerly looking forward to a Warren presidency!

13. This proposal would seem genuine if it came from an undecided

because it really seems to favor your chosen candidate.
How about a ticket where both are not in their 70s?
Because that would not be popular either.
