Both President Obama and Hillary Clinton were against reparations. They thought it was

a divisive issue, and instead believed the focus should be on dealing with the systemic inequalities that exist today.

Bernie Sanders, until earlier this year also subscribed to that line of thinking.

Most of the current Democratic candidates, except for a few, give vague responses when asked about reparations, and I suspect the hesitation is two-fold. One, it is a very complicated issue, and two, they would rather not have reparations be a major part of the general election.

No doubt, President Obama and Hillary recognized this complexity, and changed the conversation to instead deal with the systemic inequalities

3. Which I think is where a lot of the candidates are moving toward. A study on how to best

address this issue.

While all that is good and necessary, it leaves a lot of unknowns.

The good thing as I see it is that I suspect most of the campaigns are now looking at possible solutions to address this very complex issue, because more likely than not it is going to come up again.

5. If health insurance and health care reform are complicated...

...just imagine how confusing and contentious the issues surrounding reparations will be!
