Two groups apparently fear Beto immensely: Republicans and Sanders supporters

And that shows that he is a VERY formidable candidate.

The panicked threads started by Sanders supporters in this forum over the past 24 hours shows that they know Beto bleeds the millennium support away from Bernie.

Interesting to observe.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Beto O'Rourke

1. agree....

Only one candidate is playing these games, and has attacked every other dem candidate both personally and politically. Through surrogates to be sure, but the candidate is behind it.

Corporatist, identity politics, DNC stacking against the sainted Bernie...blah, blah, blah, blah. You forgot oligarchy, establishment. Can't you guys think up something besides the old, stale, anti-Democratic Party crap? It didn't work the first time; it won't now. We know a LOT more now, and Saint Bernie is going to be vetted this time.

When he loses, we'll hear, yet again, how it was rigged against him.

Quit hating on DUers.

Plus, as much as we think DU is the top of the world for these discussions, more people out there never heard of DU or pay only minor interest. If half-truth is what they hear, that’s what they believe.

Posting false or half/truth about any of the Democrat (Not Democratic) candidates is just wrong.

Splinter is one of the former Gawker websites dedicated to politics.

It's pretty Bernie friendly, very far left. I go there to get the perspective of those folks.

https://splinternews.com/

For example, there have been four articles on Beto in the last 24 hours...the second one was titled "The Hubris of Beto" and the current one is "Beto O'Rourke was a teen shitposter."

They also really hate Pelosi. Or any democrat that isn't AOC and company.

It's a great place to get the talking points. I jotted this down yesterday because it's so funny: "Bernie has been standing for his current positions for longer than our lifetimes, whereas virtually everyone else on the Democratic field has held their current positions for just a few years." Everyone else is an "immoral corporate sell-out" etc. All the talking points are there!

I don't bother to read the articles but go directly to the comments where the normal people correct all the stupid stuff. Important to click on the pending comments to see them all.

He probably won't be my choice in the primary, but if Sanders wins the nom, I vote for him. Not that complicated.

I just think it's funny when supporters make absolutist statements that portray that kind of assured overconfidence.

Many of the candidates will appeal to the same demographic groups. There's zero doubt that some support will be fluid. It always is.

I’ll vote for whoever wins the primary, and right now, I think Beto, Bernie Sanders or Kamala Harris have the best chance of winning. Actually, I think Beto might be our candidate, he’s young, smart and passionate.
He reminds me of Robert Kennedy.

I've not seen this much vitriol/anger here at any other candidate. It's like saying his supporters are not welcome here. My fear is that, if Sanders should win the nomination, no one here would support him against Donald Trump.

Really people fear Sanders? I think people fear the damage that a Sanders ticket would do to the party up and down the ticket, good lord, the guy cant even call himself a Dem until he runs for President! He has been in the Senate for ages, with little accomplishments, and then there's the baggage with his wife.

I'm good with voting for any of the listed candidates as long as its not Sanders or Gabbard (zero chance). A Sanders ticket would get destroyed, we would lose the House and Presidency. I like a Biden-Beto ticket, or a Harris-Beto ticket!

I do know a lot about Bernie, Been following his political career for over 15 years, listened to brunch with Bernie every Friday for years, voted for him during the last primary & enthusiastically supported HRC during the GE . I'm sure he will run a strong, tough campaign but I have no idea how much support he will receive this time around nor if I will end up voting for him again. I'm going into this election with a clean slate, see what everyone has to say, do my own research, make up my own mind. I don't see anyone as being a threat, I just see many possibilities.

So discussing things like that and expecting financial transparency from all our candidates falls within that category. Fact based.

However lies, baseless smears and innuendo, name calling, are attacks/bashing and aren’t allowed

Hope this helps.

66. The post I responded to was implying that the OP "pushes the Republican 2020 agenda."

Do you agree? If the candidates publish opposition research on their rivals, as candidates are known to do, do you think they are pushing the Republican agenda? Do you think candidates don't hope that oppo research will "alienate" a rival's supporters from supporting them? If candidates do it, why shouldn't we?

A primary is a contest, not a love-in. There's going to be a lot of blustering amongst various factions here. It doesn't worry me because I haven't made a decision on who my candidate is. I just know it's going to be a Democrat. How about you?

51. They fear him for different reasons.

The Republicans fear him because he is a (relatively) young, white male - a strong counter to 45 for independents and weak Republicans who prefer a white male candidate. If Beto siphons some of those voters, old man 45 is toast.

Sanders supporters fear him because he attracts a very young and largely white demographic - the same demographic that forms the backbone of the Bernie's base. If Beto splits Bernie's base, Bernie is toast.

53. I totally disagree with you.

First - why drag the Republicans into this debate? Your second paragraph gives some kind of numerical (?) data for Sanders supporters - where is the Republican fear group? Why are these 2 groups grouped together in your title line?

Second, from MY observation, I've seen a majority of threads started pro-Beto. You might want to include a 24 hour count of threads started.

Third, talking about policies of candidates is one of the things Bernie supporters do best!!! Also, investigating possible influence is another thing they do real good - hence the anti-pac groups.

Also, there is a great deal of skepticism amoung Sanders supporters for courting the 'middle' which is symbolized in the Third Way group that is supporting Beto, so of course you are going to hear some push back. I don't think this is all millennial, but a good chunk of the younger activists are definitely part of that group. So fear? I think not. More just simple push-back.

Some things will be more important to some people than some other things. I was under the assumption that this Democratic Primary sub-group was here to discuss just these sorts of things.

Not saying that 'emotional' reads aren't valid. It's always interesting to hear what the more enlightened empaths and seerers have to say.

You wrote

“Also, investigating possible influence is another thing they do real good - hence the anti-pac groups. “

I noted that like the pacs you are against, Our Revolution also is not required to disclose its donors.

I think Our Revolution is trying to do a good job electing progressives. It seems like to until Citizens United is overturned we’ll have to realize we may be stuck with “good” pacs to help us counter the egregious pro-Republican lie factory ones.

Maybe you see things similarly but the way I read your post it seemed like your views were black and white.

Hope this clarifies what I was attempting to convey. Admittedly my post was vague and poorly written

I do think, from what I've gleaned at TYT, that there is much investigation going on with each and every candidate to see who is paying for campaigns.

Is there a difference btwn PACs and super-PACs? Is the first 'good'? Maybe just message me if you know or this will end up way into tangent land. I thought only the latter were 'dark' - like Republican? Is that what you mean? I should research more before I type anything stupid. my bad.
