Stacey Abrams Says She's Open to Being Vice President for Any Democratic Nominee

Stacey Abrams made it official this week that she would not seek the presidency after months of speculation among Democrats, becoming one of the most prominent party leaders to pass on the 2020 race. But in an interview Tuesday night, she said she was open to being considered for the No. 2 spot by ďany nominee.Ē

Ms. Abrams, who drew national attention during her unsuccessful run for governor of Georgia last year, said that she would focus her next year on identifying and stemming voter suppression efforts throughout the country, a major priority for her for years, instead of running for president or the Senate.

But she has remained close to the presidential race, meeting privately with several candidates and topping lists of potential vice presidents.

On Tuesday, Ms. Abrams spoke to The New York Times about why she decided not to run for president, how she feels about the possibility of being on a 2020 ticket, and why Democrats should not shy away from the politics of identity.

3. If she is openly saying this, there is a good chance that she does not have a proper back channel

established with the Biden campaign and she is sending a signal to them - not reassuring...

4. I see her more with Sanders, I see Harris with Biden.

We wonít have a two male ticket or a two female ticket.
How do I know that?
I just do.
If itís Warren or Harris as our nominee , they will choose from Booker, Castro or Beto as Veep.

7. Not two men

I still say that Biden is the best Dem to beat trump. trump does not want to run against Biden. That says it all. If Biden runs with a strong progressive Dem woman, it will be a formidable ticket. Go Joe.

20. No to Harris...she has too much stuff from her DA and AG days which she has not addressed.

This will bring down the ticket. She goes back to the Senate and maybe tries again ...older with more experience.

Supporting voting rights first is clearly strategic for herself and all Democrats.

Now that Stacy has decided against running for Pres, this is a smart move. It actually saves a lot of time and it leaves the door open for her.
