Today:

A few hours ago, I cast a vote on the Senate floor to cancel President Trump’s national emergency declaration.

Trump’s inability to follow through on his campaign promise to build a wall is not a national emergency. And my vote today is a rebuke of his most repeated promise because this wall runs counter to our most fundamental values and it’s a massive waste of taxpayer dollars.

America deserves better than this kind of divisive political ploy -- if you agree, add your name right now to show this president that we don’t want or need this wall.

I’ve always believed that what you say about other people often says more about you.

For the past two years, I’ve listened to this president use words like invasion, infestation, and alien to describe immigrants coming to our nation -- many fleeing violence and oppression in their home countries. Using that kind of harmful, dehumanizing rhetoric about human beings trying to give their families a better life is against everything this country must always stand for.

We are a nation that’s going to be defined by how we uplift the dignity of other people -- seeing the humanity in others no matter where they come from.

We’re at a time where leaders like Trump are trying to instill fear in all of us and make us afraid of each other, because he knows that’s the only way he can win.

But I refuse to surrender to that kind of cynicism. Right now in this fight, there are agents of fear and agents of love -- which one will you be?

Add your name to join me in standing up to President Trump and saying no to a southern border wall.

Keep fighting,

Cory

Yesterday:

Spoiler alert: This email ends with a heartfelt ask for you to chip in to fund our campaign.

But before I get there, let me start by explaining why your donation really matters.

After the end of this month, every presidential campaign will file its first quarterly report with the Federal Elections Commission -- it’s the first formal measure of our progress. It’s safe to say folks watching this race will be making a lot of early conclusions about what these numbers mean.

I already know they’ll be calling me an underdog.

Our campaign has refused corporate PAC money. We’ve rejected donations from D.C. lobbyists. We’ve told them loudly and clearly that we’re not playing their game. I have no interest in running a campaign that prioritizes the powerful over the people.

That doesn’t make me very popular among political insiders -- but it does explain why deadlines like these matter a little more for our campaign. There’s no cash from special interests waiting for me.

The only way we build this thing is with people like you.

Everyone who makes a donation before this FEC deadline will be part of a truly special group. You’ll always be the official founders of this campaign -- the people who took a risk on me and our underdog operation.

So this is me asking you directly, Ellen: Will you make a donation before our FEC deadline and become a founding donor to this campaign?

This is just the beginning. Thanks for being part of it,

Cory
