What song best fits your candidate?
I started a thread earlier today about Jesse Colin Young of the Youngbloods opened a Beto event this week and how I thought the lyrics (chorus especially) to "Get Together" were such a good fit for Beto.
I thought it would be fun to broaden this and bring some positive musical energy to our discussion of candidates. The last week has not always been so positive on DU so maybe this will give a lighthearted break to the other threads. What song do you dream about playing in the background as your candidate takes the stage? What song would you like to rock out to on your headphones as you go house to house (far distance houses, lol) canvassing for your candidate? Here are the lyrics to the chorus of "Get Together" that I mentioned as a good fit for Beto: "Come on people now Smile on your brother Everybody get together Try to love one another Right now" And of course I can't talk songs and Beto without mentioning the song Willie Nelson wrote for Beto, "Vote 'Em Out". Willie just recently confirmed his continued endorsement of Beto but these lyrics will apply to whoever ends up as the nominee against Trump and the Republicans: "Vote 'Em Out" If you don't like who's in there, vote 'em out That's what Election Day is all about The biggest gun we've got Is called "the ballot box" So if you don't like who's in there, vote 'em out Vote 'em out (vote 'em out) Vote 'em out (vote 'em out) And when they're gone we'll sing and dance and shout Bring some new ones in And we'll start that show again And if you don't like who's in there, vote 'em out If it's a bunch of clowns you voted in Election Day is comin' 'round again If you don't like it now If it's more than you'll allow If you don't like who's in there, vote 'em out Vote 'em out (vote 'em out) Vote 'em out (vote 'em out) And when they're gone we'll sing and dance and shout Bring some new ones in And we'll start the show again And if you don't like who's in there, vote 'em out Vote 'em out (vote 'em out) Vote 'em out (vote 'em out) That's what Election Day is all about The biggest gun we've got Is called "the ballot box" So if you don't like who's in there, vote 'em out If you don't like who's in there, well vote 'em out" And a link to Willie's studio version of this song https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/willie-nelsons-studio-version-vote-em-out-736172/ Now let's hear from you about songs for your candidate ...

1. The Times They Are a Changin'
"The Times They Are A-Changin'"
Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone If your time to you Is worth savin' Then you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin' Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no tellin' who That it's namin' For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin' Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There's a battle outside And it is ragin' It'll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls For the times they are a-changing ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

8. I'm still undecided but I think "Old Man" by Neil Young would be appropriate
for the Biden and Sanders supporters.

10. Given that Bernie launched "Our Revolution", I bet he would like to be associated with this one
It also originally came out back near the start of his political career:
Regardless of your feelings about Sanders, I always enjoyed this song (originally released in 1969): ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden |

15. The three candidates I'm rooting for I'd pick.
Born to Fight by Tracy Chapman for Warren and wouldn't be surprised if they'd already used it on her campaign. They're tryin' to take away my pride By stripping me of everything I own They're tryin' to hurt me inside And make me into a white man's drone But this one's not for sale And I was born to fight I ain't been knocked down yet I was born to fight I'm the surest bet There ain't no man no woman No beast alive that can beat me 'Cause I'm born to fight They're tryin' to dig into my soul And take away the spirit of my God They're tryin' to take control And monitor my every thought I won't let down my guard And I was born to fight I ain't been knocked down yet I was born to fight I'm the surest bet There ain't no man no woman No beast alive that can beat me 'Cause I'm born to fight For Harris and especial because of the viral video that making the rounds. I couldn't think of anything more beautiful and fitting than Andra Day - Rise Up. Rise Up (Andra Day and Jennifer Decilveo) You池e broken down and tired Of living life on a merry-go-round And you can稚 find the fighter But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out And move mountains We gonna walk it out And move mountains And I値l rise up I'll rise like the day I値l rise up I'll rise unafraid I'll rise up And I値l do it a thousand times again And I値l rise up High like the waves I値l rise up In spite of the ache I'll rise up And I値l do it a thousands times again For you (4X) When the silence isn稚 quiet And it feels like it痴 getting hard to breathe And I know you feel like dying But I promise we値l take the world to its feet And move mountains We gonna walk it out And move mountains And I値l rise up I'll rise like the day I値l rise up I'll rise unafraid I'll rise up And I値l do it a thousand times again For you (4X) All we need, all we need is hope And for that we have each other And for that we have each other We will rise We will rise We値l rise, ohh ohhh We値l rise I値l rise up Rise like the day I値l rise up In spite of the ache I will rise a thousands times again And we値l rise up Rise like the waves We値l rise up In spite of the ache We値l rise up And we'll do it a thousands times again For you ohhhh ohhh ohh ohhh ohh (3X) For my main man Castro. He came from humble upbring and now he should be ruling things. So I'd say Jidenna - Long Live The Chief. ------ fighting over rings ------ wanna be the King, but Long Live the Chief For a lil ol' thang lil boys bang bang Long Live the Chief ------ fighting over rings ------ wanna be the king, but Long Live the Chief Yeah watch pretty mama while I slang my cane Long Live the Chief Uh Cockroaches and the rat shit Hand me downs with the patches Mama put a little money in the mattress Taught me how to make a silver spoon out of plastic You can either sink, swim or be the captain Get the last word I'mma get the last laugh in Now they say "Jidenna why you dressing so classic?" I don't want my best dressed day in a casket You can either lead, follow or get out the way Make a fuckin' move it would make my fuckin' day Got a 100 year plan you jus' think about the today Always been about time more than been about pay Can't rump with me Usain couldn't run with me Chief come to find you You don't come for me At best you can run a lil company ------ at worst, I could run the whole country That's right, pimp game like a brothel That's why, I don't judge a ------ hustle I Airbnb the crib like a hostel Summer rate cheaper 'cause the streets get hostile Shaka boy, this fire from Mojave boy So no I won't record for your homie boy I turn the party out like a naughty toy Then I go and hide in plain sight like a lobby boy Yessuh, that's Jidenna on the banner Ridin' for my ------ gettin' locked up in the slammer Elders saying everything's a nail to a hammer And ------ can't spell but we know our Instagrammar Well done's better than well said I read ------ well, a ------ well read Really I ain't met nobody smarter That's why I got admitted but I still rejected Harvard I'm the fresh prince, in a school where they couldn't read Mama put me in a school with the Kennedys When I met Bill Clinton I was seventeen But dead presidents is all my ------ need Dining with the governor's daughter And her father say I remind him of Obama I'm the chief diplomat, every day And I'm black and white, Janelle Monae They wanna be the King, but Long Live the Chief For a lil ol' thang lil boys bang bang Long Live the Chief ------ fighting over rings ------ wanna be the king, but Long Live the Chief Now watch pretty mama while I slang my cane Long Live the Chief ![]() primary today, I would vote for: Undecided |
